This is def a GOTY contender for me. I loved how many different ways there were to approach a challenge. In any given problem there were multiple solutions present to you at all times. This was awesome to me. The art and music were great too but the build variety in this game rules. I also really enjoyed the silly writing. The tone was goofy but serious at times and it worked for me. This game almost gives me Elden Ring vibes with the idea that you can just pick up items and trivialize any challenge IF you want, or you can refuse all assistance the game gives you and battle through it. 9.2/10

Art, music, story, gameplay all great. Extremely fun and rewarding to explore and find things
the world/levels are really nice, and has some genuinely funny moments too. without spoilers i found my own way to make the game very enjoyable without modifiers, i can't vouch that it accomodates every weapon/playstyle without punishing you too hard based on some of the stages/fights. the pixel art and chiptune is great: but they aren't as effective at setting up the expectation that multiple deaths is natural like in dark souls. you may find this jarring. despite not controlling like shovel knight at all, the gameplay shares alot of dna! you can unlock something pretty great for you if you enjoyed specter of torment
