"Millie and Molly" is a retro-inspired puzzle platformer that takes inspiration from Nintendo's classic game "Catrap" (also known as "Pitman" in Japan). Millie and Molly (two brave sisters) embark on an amazing adventure across five biomes to face many challenges in their path. You must navigate through each puzzle using your wits to find the best route and switch between the sisters to press them onward. With a variety of inspired levels, Millie and Molly invites you to enjoy teamwork with determination. This game provides players with a pleasant experience that puzzle lovers will all enjoy. I personally remember spending countless hours playing "Catrap" on my Gameboy, so I was really excited to purchase "Millie and Molly," especially with its two new characters and 100 original levels. The game does a great job of capturing the feel of the beloved classic, while bringing its own unique charm to the table. However, I did miss having the level editor, which was part of the Nintendo and Commodore 64 version of this game. The developer Carleton Handley has created a world with creative puzzles and clever gameplay. A great feature is the unique rewind/undo mechanic. In conclusion, "Millie and Molly" (2023) is a delightful tribute to classic puzzle platformers. It offers a fresh and entertaining experience with new characters, challenging puzzles and charming visuals. Fans of "Catrap" or "Pitman" will undoubtedly enjoy guiding Millie and Molly through their quest to defeat monsters and solve puzzles in this enchanting adventure. This nostalgic puzzle platformer pays homage while delivering new characters and enchanting gameplay. Featuring 100 new challenging puzzles for fans of the genre. The elements of Yutaka Isokawa's classic puzzle-platformer Pitman (Also known as Catrap) saunter into the realm of the Commodore 64 in Millie and Molly, and the end result is as pleasing as a plate of digestive biscuits and a steaming cup of Earl Grey. Little is divulged about the titular heroines, a pair of elderly sisters who set out on an adventure that can only be described as incredible. No retirement home on the planet can constrain these two; the wrinkly duo traverse gloomy cellars, ominous Egyptian pyramids, extraterrestrial space vessels, leaky submarines, and even some creepy crypts during their intrepid single-screen quests. In each unique world, they face off against a bewildering bevy of baddies that need to be dispatched with hard-hitting melee attacks. Millie and Molly may have reached their senior years, but that doesn't mean they can't put their best fists forward; provided that they can approach a monster from the left or the right, the two charming ladies can deliver fatal blows that will cause the foes to suddenly disappear. I certainly would not want to be placed in a steel cage or left abandoned in a dark alley with either of these geriatric gladiators! Hefty pushable rocks and diminishing mounds of dirt complicate the situation, but Millie and Molly have no need to ring for an attendant. The sets of levels alternate between featuring either Millie or Molly singularly, or as a team. The stages in which both characters are present are entertaining, even if they tend to pose somewhat less of a challenge since it's relatively easy to determine the correct positioning required in order to progress. Overall, the difficulty level won't give anyone any gray hairs, and players do have the option to select from a large array of levels at any given time. Players can choose between 8-bit or 16-bit graphics; regardless of which option is selected, the authentic SID soundtrack remains a constant, and that's a good thing. Unlike the original Commodore 64 version which included passwords, this Steam version records progress through a single save file. After witnessing the unrivaled stamina, tenacity, and esprit de corps demonstrated by Millie and Molly in their golden years, one can only wonder what remarkable feats they achieved many moons ago. If only we had access to their high school yearbooks...
Quite charming. The difficulty ramps up quite a bit, but so far I have not been stuck for that long (level 46). Very enjoyable!
It looks and sounds like something that shipped free with Windows 95, but if you can get past the intentionally ugly aesthetic, there's a gem of a simple sokoban-esque puzzler here.
