As a fan of Octavo's Midnight series, I was really disappointed by this game. Unlike Midnight Scenes: A Safe Place, which balanced its dark story with engaging gameplay and tasks, this entry relies heavily on long conversations and offers very little interaction. The story feels underdeveloped, the execution is weak, and the entire experience comes across as rushed. Overall, it lacks the atmosphere and quality that made the earlier games so enjoyable.
The "Midnight Scenes" series always have a great story - and this one is no exception. Once I started playing I was so intrigued, I couldn't stop. I particularly liked how the "creatures" were portayed, especially in the closing scenes. Very atompsheric and exceptionally beautiful pixel art.
Now, this has turned out really very well. I think this game genuinely benefits from being much more cinematic than others of Octavi and Susanna’s games: faster cuts, less drawn-out dialogue, more frequent shifts between scenes and time periods. Functions very well. But as for those oddly alienating ‘goofy sound samples’ (which I suppose were introduced in The Supper – New Blood)... they certainly do give these games a certain, uhm, distinctive aesthetic signature. Still, for me, they cost the games too much atmosphere. But no question, I really like Among Graves. btw: This game is so filmlike - why don't you sell the script to a film studio? :-)
I love the Midnight Scenes series, I'm really fond of these little ghost stories. The pixel art, as always, is excellent.
Loved the game! The story was really unique and compelling, I definitely jumped a few times and the pixel art was beautiful. Exactly what I expect from a Midnight Scenes game, the atmosphere and spooky vibes were all there.
ENGLISH I find it less sensationalist than the other episodes; there are fewer jump scares and less violence, and the supernatural beings are actually polite and empathetic toward the Turtle family. The horror here is therefore not so direct; I would define it more as a sense of unease or existential anguish, since what is ultimately being confronted is death itself—the running out of the hourglass. In its own way, it is a tender story that focuses on family bonds and forgiveness, though I did miss that touch of suspense, the sense of danger, and the signature plot twist that characterizes these games—heirs to *The Twilight Zone*.
I really liked this one! Might be my favorite other than The Nanny. The atmosphere and simple spooky vibes involving death really goes a long way for the story.
As always, this was another really great game and really great story. I so enjoy them, and highly recommend them.
