Build tiny voxel worlds in virtual reality! Microcosm is the game I've wanted to play in VR ever since I saw the Oculus Rift Kickstarter way back in 2012. I picked up a Vive last year, but no one seemed to be making the voxel game I wanted. Finally, I just decided to build it myself.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. Copies below reflect the player base, not paid sales.

First off: I got microcosm for free by the dev... I won at random. However, this wont influence my review in any way. Microcosm is a voxel sandbox... the end. If you have an idea what you want to create then you'll propably enjoy microcosm. When I started microcosm I had no idea what I wanted to create.... but I was interested in the "game" anyway. I ended up spending about an hour creating a cute pig standing on a field infront of a lake. Microcosm features a very good control scheme, something many other VR games are missing. On the left hand you got a list of colors (which are aligned around your writst) and on the right hand you have different modes (place, delete, colorize) to choose from. I wonder if there is a left-hand mode... Placing voxels was easy. A box-creation-mode (dunno what to call it) allowed for placing voxels faster... even though it had a limit to how big the rectangle for placing voxels could be... I hope this changes. At first I didnt quite notice that some voxels were transparent or some emitted light... so I accidently used light emitting voxels and everything looked weird :P Anyway, there's not much you could write about microcosm... its a voxel sandbox and its controls make it work flawlessly... I like it but I have to come up with ideas now :D I recommend microcosm if you have ideas and if you like building stuff. Beware however that right now everything is static and there is no form of interaction (yet?). So, if you like building, painting or other creative stuff you'll like microcosm. Can't wait to see what this turns into :) And now I'll write some feature requests in the discussions-section :)

Microcosm is an Early Access Free to play VR Voxel sandbox. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded? Very bare bones version. Has no in-game help. Windows version is like a free demo for the upcoming IOS version. Maybe try this, if you are creative in Voxel art.
Microcosm is a vr voxel tool, and for early access it seems like a great start. It lacks a few key features, such as undo, but I'd expect the dev is aware and will want to put that in before the full release.

Microcosm is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. Instead of being a game, Microcosm is a software application that is not to be confused with Microcosm (copyright Psygnosis, 1993). For starters, Microcosm is a real game, this is not. This is just a bit of software that lets you create garbage 3D "voxel" scenes, because a lot of developers look at Minecraft and think it succeeded because the graphics are crap. Minecraft succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. A lot of developers can't get their head around this. At least you could understand when games are made that look bad. This does look bad, but it's not even a game. It's not finished, either, the developer couldn't work out how to make this properly so gave up on it 6 years ago. But left it on Steam as if it was a game, just to pollute the place, I guess. We need more garbage on Steam, right? For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop. There's no loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played". This has misleadingly been launched in the "Games" section of Steam instead of the "Software" section. This is a common mistake for developers who are new to Steam, or don't understand the difference between games and software which isn't a game. It seems this software published incorrectly as a game is simply lack of experience/knowledge of the correct process. Here's a link for the process to publish non-game software on Steam: Steam Developer Help With Software Publishing It's unfortunate this process was not known about/followed, resulting in a software application being published in the wrong place. Publishing things which aren't games on Steam in the Games section as games is misleading to gamers and somewhat harmful, because it pollutes the Steam marketplace and takes away visibility and market exposure for genuine game developers who do the right thing and make games for gamers. There are no gameplay loops in this software, no "gameplay", no meaningful game like interaction. It's a software application and as such has no merits as a video game for gamers. Because of this, I cannot recommend this non-game software as a game to gamers.
Before I played Microcosm, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
Very promising. Only played for a short while, but that was enough to get the feel of what is quite a simple art/drawing program. I love creating & building in Minecraft. Microcosm is an art program that definitely has a Minecraft building vibe, and could be wonderful with further development. I think that the program needs loads more textures and blocks to play with. I hope the Dev keeps working on it. If you love building and creating in Minecraft, I think It's well worth a look in it's current state. The price seems good to me. The game has been out for well over a year now. I guess we have to be ready for no further development. But I feel like it's only scratching the surface of what it could become.
