I would put metaphor: ReFantazio into an odd category. There are some design elements which feel out of place and more of a pain. Things to watch out for which will negatively impact your time with this title: 1) enemy attack animations. they can change their direction when they jump. Can lead to extra ambush encounters. Can work around just a pain of added friction. 2) the lower level engagement mechanic. Works well in the early game but late game it is almost built around you needing to be the +3 levels above mobs to skip lot of pain in the ass mechanics some of the later mob types have. I think this mechanic forced the developer to be lazy in some balancing and makes the game somewhat grind fest. 3) breaking stun effects / instant kill random. many mobs have instant kill mechanics, as do you. However i never had a single one ever proc, while was on the constant receiving end. This never caused a wipe just immediate remove loss of a character in the party for the engagement. Even when stacking accuracy debuffs to their max didnt seem to have an impact. On status effects typically either clear status, or greatly increase hit negating turn setup. One class has ability to remove enemy buffs but i never found a mob to proc it on. Constant stun break as well. At the end i would just restart the fight since i really did not like mobs whom spawn 2 - 3 more mobs do a 1 action to 4 action expansion and all added mobs either heal or juts AoE the group down. 4) Levels seem completely off, due to pushing (2) you end up in zones in which you get very large mob level ranges. So you get the feeling of almost everything is a joke and then you encounter something just completely off and even higher level than you when your already 10+ levels over the other mobs. It is an odd design choice to counter their system from (2) to add difficulty. So you have a couple choices then grind and over +3 which at the end you can be anywhere to 12 - 15 levels over 90% of the mobs or spend calendar time to go back to a lower level dungeon to grind. The pushing through did as well, getting full weakness hits on each character as well. Overall story is fine, predictable. Early game is enjoyable however game is incredibly linear with quite limited world involvement. Game system is simple compared to Persona 5. I got tired of the grind to overcome some of the game system mechanics which I do not know if that is what the developer intended. Strategy around using weakness and synergy even when done seemed to not feel powerful compared to some of the even non-boss mechanics later in the game. I found my self just wanting to skip mobs with reflect and massive high resistance types later in the game. I honestly did not find the RPG elements to be super meaningful and lacking.
