First and foremost, I enjoy the music. it would be nice if had a some extra tracks but rock on. There's no way to view all cards, so that's a bummer and each "campaign" mode has been identical. It's obvious that there's ideas laid out, and you could go for certain types of builds... but it does not feel implemented well. Like you could have different lords for different flavors(demon, beast, undead), and if you beat them all unlock a demon king/queen which has extra mana gain or something. xxxxEnemies also lack variety (edit: the variety is in endless mode.) As it is, it's mostly simple and straight forward... but you can't beat the price. Great time killer for in between rounds of another game. Edit: apparently there's no save feature. Every time I open the app I need to reset my screen size and audio, and I lost power in the middle of the endless match and have to start from scratch. Edit#2: I did endless mode up to turn401 and just got bored. 2/3 of your playing field will be creature farmers. The other 1/3 will be lich spawning hordes of skeletons. Because legends cannot have their size increased, they become worthless unless they affect other units. Two buff, two are spell casters that affect your own troops (negatively) and two with AoE (great early game). And one tank that's great until late game, maybe forever if given enough HP buff. Ultimately this game lacks two things. The fact you can't close the game and return to it later is terrible, the developer needs this fixed ASAP. There needs something to make legends worthwhile late. It would also be nice to see a way to increase card draw and mana gain. However even without this, I definitely got my money's worth and well done to the developer. Still love jamming out to the music.
Saw a review and was immediately hooked on the planning aspect. Unfortunately the game uses Vulkan drivers to launch. If your graphics card isn't new enough for that, you're SOL, which is absurd because it's not like this game actually has complex graphics. I mean, I can run ESO, POE and LOL on this thing... but not this pixel-art card battle? There's a little prompt that talks you through how to launch it from Command using OpenGL3 ... but actually, no, since using that command prompt and intelligent variations thereof doesn't actually work either. Come back, dev, and let people who don't have high-end gaming PC graphics cards actually play your 2-D strategy rougelike...
A very fun basis for a game, along the lines of Plants vs. Zombies or maybe Monster Train. I would love to see this game idea explored some more. If there was a $10 DLC that turned this into a proper roguelite with meta progression, boss progression, varied starting load-outs, etc. I would buy it in a heart beat.
nice indie game with a tons of lovely characters. surprising strategic depth and weirdly addictive. music beyond anything. rock on!
The music is excellent and far from the best part of the game.
This is a great little Plants vs. Zombies style strategy game. Can't beat the price and there is a ton of room for this game to grow.
I don't usually play deck builder games. As a dnd-player and fantasy fan this game drew me in with it's title (obviously), beautiful artwork, attention to detail in all characters and lore and the simplicity of the mechanics whilst being intricate in itself. Once you've played it, the addiction level is freaking high. I haven't been able to stop, always trying to beat my wave-highscore. You can really feel a lot of love for fantasy, character-creation, metal and art in this. Big recommandation <3
Metal Queen Dungeon: An Engaging Roguelike Experience with Potential
Metal Queen Dungeon is a captivating roguelike game that will delight fans of the genre with its unique blend of challenging gameplay and immersive atmosphere.
Strengths:
[olist] [*]Endless Mode: The endless mode is undoubtedly the heart of the game. It offers an ever-increasing challenge and ensures that each run feels fresh and exciting. The randomly generated levels keep players on their toes and encourage creative problem-solving. [*]Soundtrack: The music is an absolute highlight. The powerful metal soundtrack perfectly complements the game's dark aesthetic and enhances the intense gaming atmosphere. The melodies stick in your head and motivate you to keep trying for another run. [*]Atmosphere: The combination of gloomy artwork and gripping music creates a unique and captivating game world that you'll enjoy exploring. [/olist]
Suggestions for Improvement:
While Metal Queen Dungeon already has a strong foundation, there are a few areas where the game could grow: [olist] [*]Progression System: Introducing a progression system could significantly boost long-term motivation. It would be exciting if players could earn in-game currency through repeated play to unlock or purchase new cards. This would not only increase replayability but also provide a sense of progression. [*]Expandable Soul Containers: The ability to expand the soul container during a run would be an interesting tactical option. This could be implemented as a temporary improvement per run or as a permanent upgrade option to increase survival chances in later levels. [*]Content Variety: More variety in cards, enemies, and environments would further enhance long-term motivation and make each run even more unique. [/olist] Overall, Metal Queen Dungeon is an impressive roguelike that excels with its endless mode and atmospheric presentation. With some expansions in player progression and content variety, it has the potential to become a true gem of the genre. Fans of challenging roguelikes and captivating soundtracks should definitely not miss out on this title!
Nice indie-retro-game with nice pixel art and unique design of the game cards. The music is amazing—finest metal that gets more intense with each stronger enemy. As it is, the game is straightforward and fun, perfect for killing time. Would buy again.
