The first 3D title in the METAL GEAR series pioneering a new level of stealth action with live action footage, cinematic cut scenes, and innovative gameplay.
Modeled estimate, not a reported figure. How we estimate →
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 322.75/day in the week to Jul 15 → 6.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Reviews
One of the worst games I have ever played. The controls seem like they weren't even made by a human. Takes so much effort and counterintuitive thinking just to do a single sliver of damage, if the game even wants to register it. The level design is boring and half the missions or fights require you to know ambiguous information to beat it. Boss fights are spamming the same repetitive strategy for 10 mins straight, if some bs happens in the fight, which is 7/10 times, you end up losing and have to restart from 20 minutes ago of cutscenes and slow elevator rides. The age of this game is not an excuse, unless people back then had single digit IQs. Metal gear solid 3, 4, and 5 are proper games, but this ♥♥♥♥ should've been a movie or TV series instead of this abomination of a game.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Matched by title — a reused name can pair the wrong games. * is a critic aggregate. Prices and positions are each store's United States storefront; Epic charts worldwide. Audience and Score too, except Steam's, which is worldwide.

input lag in each game is horrendous, almost a full second delay between pressing a button and seeing it do something. Unplayable, emulation gives a way better experience.
Damn, this pc port is ass.
I played MGS in 1999 and it was great. Some would even say it was absolute cinema. But this version is a very poor quality emulation or port (either way it's bad)
This ♥♥♥♥ is actually aids. The latency is crazy, mechanics feel floaty and unresponsive, saving doesn't work in scripted scenes, meaning you have to wait for the long scripted sequence every time you die, and in general i just did not have a good time with it. Hopefully they remake this game so the stone age game design won't get in the way of playability. I played this on a controller.
TRASH
God. This ♥♥♥♥ runs worse than an emulator😭😭😭

Metal Gear Solid: The gold standard of gaming. I’ve played this game on PS1, PS2, PS3, PS5, and now on Steam—and it hits me with the exact same intensity every single time. MGS1 is more than just a game; it is a masterclass in design and a blueprint for cinematic storytelling that was decades ahead of its time. Hideo Kojima created a foundation for modern gaming that hasn't lost an ounce of its depth, tension, or emotional impact. Everything important has already been said about this title, so I will keep it simple: this is an essential experience for every gamer. I am still holding out hope for a proper, faithful remake that gives this masterpiece the tribute it truly deserves. An absolute legend. 10/10.
