Modeled estimate, not a reported figure. How we estimate →
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 322.75/day in the week to Jul 15 → 6.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Good game overall, it's a 1998 PS1 game with all the jank and at times frustration that can bring (unwieldy controls etc), but I still overall had a good time. Never played this back in the day, so this was my first playthrough. Wanted to finally play through this series. Upon starting this and seeing the semi top-down isometric thing going on, I went in with a "lets get this over with so we can get to the newer games" attitude, but before long it drew me in and I was having a good time with it on its own merits. It does sometimes have that rage inducing old game jank to it (like maybe you're trying to run away from a bad guy and snake gets caught on a corner and starts peeking around it instead), but I guess that's part of the experience. Definitely a Kojima game (I've played the Death Stranding series and MGS5), with the wacky yet almost plausible worldbuilding he does. This definitely has a lot of corny dialogue etc (Snake hitting on literally every female character, and in particular the 'good ending'), but it being an old game just makes it funny. One thing I didn't know about the first few hours that was dragging me down: If you just press start, its basically a blank pause menu. But if you hold LB+RB it pulls up a proper pause/main menu. Doing this you can pause the game during the (lengthy) cutscenes. Additionally important cause alt tabbing out of the window puts it in windowed mode, I thought I had to restart every time to get back to full screen, but you can change it back in this window. Boss fights can be a little difficult but nothing too bad, the big final boss battle I was struggling with but after watching a short video for the strat it was no problem. This game famously has some gimmicks, in particular Psycho Mantis I was never gonna figure out without looking it up (if you spam call the colonel he should also tell you the 'trick' to it, its a pretty well known Kojima moment), the game (on that LB+RB menu) gives you a way to virtually do it. Admittedly there were times where I kinda wished I'd played it on an emulator so I could abuse save states and cheese through stuff that way, but if I made it through you can too. If you're new to the series this is definitely worth giving a chance.
My Snake is solid and my gears are metalled.

A SOLID GAME
Incredible story, I love it when the gameplay clicks as well. Unfortunately there is a lot of PS1 jank that can be frustrating, in particular I found the final boss and the segment after quite annoying, but still a fantastic game
