Metal beans is a refreshing game in the indie space, and one I would recommend to any gamer looking for a new take on classic gameplay elements. It’s a unique game, where you act as an antivirus, desperately defending various computer structures from oncoming viruses. The combat mechanics are crisp and responsive, and the enemy behavior is challenging without being overwhelming or frustrating. There is a multitude of game types within the main game structure, and the depth of the upgrade systems means that each run offers a fresh experience. My favorite mechanic is the character switching; the swapping between ranged and melee offers great opportunities for strategic expression. Overall I would recommend Metal Beans to any fan of roguelike brawling games. It is an incredibly polished first title, and I look forward to the games these people make in the future.

I like the premise of desktop avatars and the setting being within a computer. It lends itself to a lot of creative designs and possibilities. What I like: -The bean designs and colorful pop cyber aestetic -The rogue-like gameplay loop, it can get addicting -The beans' distinct playstyles -The music is catchy -The polish and juice to the attacks, effects, and overall game feel -The perks from the shop add enough of a boost to feel significant without being overpowered. I don't have anything I dislike about the game, but things I would like to see improved or adjusted: -Allow the ability to attack or switch characters after having Catbot place a trap. While we wait for the trap to detonate there is a window of time where the player isn't doing anything but running for their life. The combo play potential is there as seen that after stunning enemies with the trap, the player can switch to Robitz to clean and sweep. Another one is dropping Catbot's ultimate and having Robits attack within the radius. The combo play is already present, just allow the ability to do something after Catbot attacks, I see no reason to disable other mechanics while waiting for detonation. -The tower defense minigame is relentlessly difficult. I know there are systems in place to alleviate the difficulty like the teleporters, but the rate that towers get destroyed is way too fast and can get hard to manage. It becomes difficult because no only is one micromanaging the towers, they have to worry about enemies swarming them. -Robitz needs a shield or some other ability to ward off damage. Because this is a simple horde-like survival arcade game, a lot of the enemy AI's danger potential stems from swarming and rushing towards the player. As a result, Robitz finds himself easily encroached by enemies vs Catbot who has the means to maintain distance and crowd control large groups. This would feel balanced if Robitz had wider attack radius or stronger hits and knockback, but as of now, he feels outclassed by Catbot purely by design of the game and enemy AI.
WARNING: THIS IS A HIGHLY ADDICTIVE GAME Very enjoyable, I had a blast trying to beat my highscore and even tried competing with friends. I completely missed the tutorial, but after a short while everything felt natural and didn't even need it. Good job devs!
Metal Beans saved my life. In this Steam game review, I will delve into the depths of this virtual world where Catbot and Robitz reign supreme, battling digital monsters with unmatched vigor and wit. Brace yourselves for a rollercoaster ride through the corridors of your computer's CPU, where bytes collide and laughter ensues. Let me begin by commending the developers for crafting a visually stunning experience. The art style in Metal Beans is nothing short of mesmerizing. From the intricately designed virus creatures to the vibrant landscapes of the computer space, every pixel oozes with creativity and charm. It's as if Picasso himself took a stroll through the motherboard and left his mark. But let's not forget the heart and soul of any game—the gameplay. Metal Beans delivers on all fronts, offering a delightful blend of action and strategy. Controlling Catbot and Robitz feels like second nature, thanks to intuitive controls and smooth animations. Swapping between the two characters adds a layer of depth to the combat, allowing for endless possibilities and hilarious mishaps. Speaking of hilarity, Metal Beans knows how to tickle your funny bone. The witty banter between Catbot and Robitz never fails to elicit a chuckle, and the absurdity of defending your computer from digital threats with desktop buddies is a premise worth its weight in gold. Who knew that a game about battling viruses could be so downright entertaining? Of course, no review would be complete without mentioning the upgrade system. Customizing Catbot and Robitz with different skills and stats adds a strategic element to the gameplay, keeping you hooked for hours on end. Whether you prefer to beef up Catbot's melee attacks or bolster Robitz's ranged capabilities, the choice is yours to make. But let's address the elephant in the room—the notion that Metal Beans "saved my life." While it may sound hyperbolic, there's a grain of truth to it. In a world filled with chaos and uncertainty, sometimes all you need is a bit of laughter and escapism to keep you going. And in that regard, Metal Beans delivers in spades. In conclusion, Metal Beans is more than just a game—it's a hilarious romp through the inner workings of your computer, filled with laughter, excitement, and unforgettable moments. So do yourself a favor and dive headfirst into this digital adventure. Who knows? It might just save your life too.

I cover a wide range of genres both paid and unpaid, providing unbiased opinions as well as regular giveaway events.

Catchy and Adorable
Love this style of gameplay; it reminds me of many games I've played in the past that have a similar silly, pleasant, wholesome vibe. I find the game perplexing because the overall dying and resetting occur so quickly, and the change of characters feels very janky, requiring you to stop completely and swap as continuing to fire prevents input.
Conclusion
You're basically two cute tiny robots, Catbot and Robitz, who protect your computer from viruses in cyberspace. It really needs a lot more refinement, but I honestly believe the game play is enjoyable because it's comparable to the other Action Rogue like games I play on a regular basis, but much more catchy and cute. If you've ever played a game like "Button City" think that game with the Arcade mini-games, very fun.
