Got interested by this game's presentation, and got hooked by the mystery and whatever's wrong with this girl. Charming, eerie, silly, creepy, "soulfull", even worbly - just a few of many adequate adjectives I can pin onto Mesmalie. Such a short yet dense point-n-click visual novel hybrid that just oozes with ideas and executes them well. Plenty of choices to make (not only in dialogue) throughout the story with handful of various outcomes, consequences, and unique dialogue options. Just a dash of minigames to reach hi-score in, and so many "get out" endings to see... As I played through the game, many cartoon and TV shows came to mind such as Beetlejuice, Addams Family, Goosebumps & Are You Afraid Of The Dark series, Moville Mysteries - medias with light-er thriller/horror stories for teenagers. Mesmalie marks that cozy, eerie-silly sweetspot that I adore and yearn for as of late. I was intrigued for most of my play time, and positively anxious during some tense moments with plenty of distrust put against our tutor, but in the end I walked out of it with this satisfying fuzzy-warm feeling... Was it melancholy? Maybe? Perhaps. I wouldn't know, it just felt good.
Short, sweet, cheap - I cannot recommend it enough! Try it!
Now if you'll excuse me, I ought to discover some more "get out" endings.
oh my god i destroyed everything in the house i am so sorry i wish that ritual would've killed me it would be a better fate than this very scrumptious it was seasoned well 10/10 I came back to 100% the game and it was the best decision i could've possibly made and I'm so glad i did. The story is absolutely phenomenal, the characters are just wonderful, and the only thing the story leaves you with is a desire for even more, i hope to god i get to see these wonderful characters again someday. The art style is also one i completely adore, the way the sprites always shift ever so slightly so they don't become boring to look at is a phenomenal touch. The amount of choices and the little details within those choices is just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wonderful i can barely put it to words, i didn't 100% the game out of some completionism, i did so because it was just that enjoyable and interesting, i was always actively clawing for something new that i had missed before. The only, ONLY complaint, is that there isn't more. I am genuinely upset to see these characters go and the true ending nearly brought me to tears just because i knew there was nothing left to see or do, i will be genuinely overjoyed to see anything new for this game, and i hope i get to see these wonderful characters in this wonderful style again soon.
really good experience, i didn't think it would have the tone it would, nor would mesmer herself unfold in the way she would. wonderful awkwardly anxiety inducing atmosphere throughout the whole game. i got really hooked. very grounded and real conflict for how fantastical the events of the story are. some actual criticisms below (not spoiler free)
i think the extremes of both mesmer and protag could have been dialed up a little higher, the prospect of these two awkward people each with hidden evil inside the two of them killing each other in a loop appeals to me highly. i just thought that the actual drama in terms of arguments and such would be more consistent and heated, rather than the protagonist being a bit blank and having no reason to leave when the player hits get out. plus the protagonist's interesting relationship to mesmer/animal murder. they are relentless to her as well. they are a strange little thing, i like this very much. there should be more. i also feel like the game leaned very strongly after the boss fight into making mesmer truly believe the ritual would work, instead of a twisted denial and portrayal of grief that can't be resolved cleanly. it's weird she just like "yeah help me bury my friends i am now half over i'm packing my bags..." etc. just a little odd. i felt like it could have been interesting to play into the idea that her hypnosis magic was truly proficient all along, and her self denial and gaslighting that she can save them was directly related, and also such was the way she regularly traps the protagonist to still go along with the ritual time after time. i suppose it can be interpreted this way, i just feel like it isn't the intent. for the protag themself, i really was intrigued by them, which is why i felt like there not being a name reveal by the end felt a bit inane and not congruent to the themes, given mesmer did just attack them with their life before arriving (such as their deal with their roommate and the bird they killed). i don't really see the purpose of them being a player self insert, because they really are just so so weird and good. i just remembered the augmented magick sequence where we see someone inside the vial who turns into that bird-- was that their roommate? why? it felt like something with lots of potential to be recontextualized in a really moving way and it just wasn't, so it was a little half baked. ok now i sound too negative so i have to say the dev's storytelling ability is really really great. it just felt like the plot was 75%, 80% written i suppose. which is fine for what it wants to say, and it works because i am hooked on mesmer and protag's strange strange dynamic so i can't help but just wanting more, not only in a way that i am forced to imagine. the art direction and gameplay storytelling was wonderful, so i wish good luck on future works, cuz you have something really really good here. good game
I bought this on a whim after seeing the release trailer. I had never heard of it before then, it was the night before I was about to move, and I was looking for something to do before I packed up my computer. The artstyle got my attention, and Mesmer herself held it. Two playthroughs later, the second with the true ending, and I feel like I've made a friend. A flawed friend with some - no, a LOT of baggage, but someone I genuinely care about, quirky as she is. Be sure to check the extras after you get the true ending.
Hey, it's me. I got your message. Sorry I didn't pick up when you called, things are a bit busy on my end... and to be honest, I didn't recognize your number at first. But regardless, I'm really happy to hear things have been good for you. If anyone deserves it, it's probably you. And maybe it's not my place to say, but I think your old coven would agree. It's just like you said, I've been doing my best to keep the house nice when my days are free. Had a feeling you'd poke your head in there at some point. Lemme know if you're ever in town, yeah? I'd love another session or three; you're one heck of a teacher. Take care of yourself, Mesmer.
Dev add the option to hug her during the true ending and my life is yours
fun!
Such a fun experience. Twisty and turny, it has a good variety of point-and-click and visual novel elements. It contains silly humor and great music, and not one second of the game was stale or overstayed its welcome. It was also so much more heartfelt than I thought it would be! There is a lot to uncover due to the many endings you can achieve. Highly recommend.
I liked it when murphie said "its murphin time" and murphed all over the place
Абсолютная синема за свои деньги, очаровательно.
PEAK. Been following since the demo and the full release is ABSOLUTE CINEMA! Great game :D
So charming and just an absolute delight the whole way through. The art style bangs, the music bangs, the minigames are fun, the story is captivating, and there's just so much more to see than you would on 1 playthrough. I found myself going back and my jaw dropping at things I didn't realize could even happen. HIGHLY recommended to anyone who loves unique games that are just bursting with love :)
