REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD and not what i expected at all! fantastic game!
Very fun and cute! I was surprised at how good the story was, though I do wish the game had more time to familiarize us with the characters and world.
On one hand you could look at this game and think: "Another pixel-art indie platformer? Throw it on the pile" and you wouldn't be wrong necessarily. I don't think this game is going to change anyone's life and I didn't buy this game because I thought it stood out in a crowded genre. I bought it because I am so in love with the dev's previous game, Satryn, that I knew I would be getting this day one no matter what. On the other hand, if you get this game you will find an absolutely incredible way to spend a couple of hours. The art is extremely charming and the music and sound design in particular are truly wonderful to behold. For a couple of bucks you can just drink this game up like a glass of ice cold water. Short, bracing, satisfying. Let it run down your chin and soak the front of your shirt.

Overpriced for what it is and not particularly compelling to me either. I put it down after a few levels. I can see from other user reviews that the game is about 2 hours long. It's a very basic 2D platformer with tiny stages. It should really be priced at $0-2 like the other cheap crappy games that its competing with (the entirety of itch io as well as Steam). If it was priced that way, I probably wouldn't have bothered leaving it a negative rec, but this just feels eggregious to me. If you want to pick up a 2D platformer that's actually good and cheap (or free), check out stuff like Environmental Station Alpha, Treasure Adventure Game, 8-Bit Boy, EldritchVania, Omnigon, 100 Pumpkins 2, Vvvvvv etc. ..I could go on listing 60+ more 2D platformer games that are similarly priced, cheaper or free that are far more impressive than Merp in Merpworld. Don't waste your time or money on this dull, generic shovelware.
Genuinely a very lovely game. Very juicy and satisfying movement and gameplay along with an emotional story that I wasn't expecting.
I have no fear, for I am merp. I have no worries, for I am merp. I suffer no dread, for I am merp.
I was not expecting to lock into this game and want to beat it all in one sitting but here I am. I enjoyed how it mixed it's platforming challenges with physics and enemies. The leaf mechanic is cool because you are like Mario on his last life until you get it back. It makes it much more forgiving to get hurt but then gives you a chance to get back to full power just as easily. Sometimes you will get into a bad spot without it though. The story was neat, truly feeling like a Merp in a grander world. Some of the medals were tricky to find but if you check the levels you will find them eventually and might need to get creative with some of the physics. Having 100% the game, the special levels were a nice challenge at the end though one of them on a platform was rough to run back. It has a great soundtrack as well, a game you can tell the developers put a lot of love into.
Merp in Merpworld doesn't really do anything new, but it's still an enjoyable platformer from start to finish. Short but sweet. If you like Satyrn Deluxe, the previous game by this developer, you might want to try this
(it even takes place in the same universe and provides some context behind the events of that game).
Buy this on sale.
A wonderful little game!! Great atmosphere and tunes, and a short but well-put together story.
