Super bizarre game. Artstyle is good, but I feel like it would be near impossible to figure stuff out on your own without a guide. Thus, I can't really recommend it.

After encountering the first puzzle in "Memoranda", I was excited: finally, a game with built-in hints! But that probably was the last nice thought I had about the game. I got stuck in the main story line so many times, there are no useful hints for it. For example, I picked up flour from the bakery and the character thought that she can finally bake doughnuts for the little girl. Okay, good, I know what to do! But there is no kitchen or any other place suitable for that. What I forgot during my long break from playing this game, that I already gave a doughnut to this girl. So the flour is actually for something else. And why do some characters repeat their requests all the time even if they were already fulfilled? I got really tired of going through the same places again and again hoping that something has changed. Eventually, I had to look in a walkthrough several times to finish the game. I love Murakami stories and I enjoyed references to them in the game but I did not enjoy the gameplay.

So bad it's embarrassing. The world building doesn't make any sense, the story doesn't make any sense, the dialogue is totally disjointed and never makes any sense... In short, this is some of the worst writing ever perpetrated. Accordingly, none of the puzzles or inventory uses make any sense, and they all form an endless chain of non sequiturs. This is probably the worst puzzle design I've seen in over 4 decades of adventure games. No rhyme or reason to anything. Easily a thick thumb down. To which I could add a subpar interface (requiring massive keyboard input in what is supposed to be a point n' click,) rotten animation (of otherwise pleasing graphics,) some illegible texts, and a main voice actress who can't articulate her words (making subtitles a must.)

I really wanted to like Memoranda, but like many veteran point & click enthusiasts, I just couldn't make the absurdist jump. I'm not talking the occasional "Rubber-chicken with a pulley in the middle" - a pulley's a pulley and will find its use, but the sheer leaps this game wants you to take made a walkthrough a necessity. At that point, I wasn't so much getting an occasional hint as letting the walkthrough do the driving via speed-run. For all its artistic graphics & musical counterpoints, II was about as emotionally invested in this game as folding laundry. You're supposed to care she hasn't a name, but even with all the ties to emotion in the trailer <the man who has no wife ,the soldier, the runner w/o feet> the trailers play-up character connections that get dropped as 30 second interactions and... there's simply no urgency to do anything. Nothing moves the plot. I'm 2.7hrs in (w/ walktrhough) and at this point, I'm going to uninstall and leave the rest unfinished. Sorry - if you like LucasArts, Daedaelic, & Wadjet Eye titles, this one's probably not going to hit the mark... So... get it on sale, because $14.99 for this def isn't worth it.
