Hello Im Skill Incarnate and Welcome to My Games Review Series. My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review. In this episode I return to one of my favourite genres, Soulslikes, with the Samurai themed game Meifumado. This game is the breakout title by small developer Old Bit Studio, who also worked on the side scrolling shooter game Gun Rage. Meifumado is a Soulslike with a unique Japanese Samurai meets steampunk setting. The player controls an unnamed samurai, brought to life for the purpose of defeating the shogun, a demonic entity ruling japan thanks to an army of demonic creatures and robotic warriors. Pitted against impossible odds, the player will need to master the art of the sword in a series of deadly duels against dozens of ferocious foes and 6 immensely challenging bosses who will test your skills to their limit. Thankfully the game features some excellent controls and an easy to learn but hard to master combat system that rewards decisive action. The game release to kickstarter with huge interest from the community but was unfortunately embroiled in a controversy due to sanctions in the developers home country of Belarus. This resulted in the developer not recieving any of the kickstarter funds for the game despite hitting their goals on the site. As a result the game was self funded by the developer as a passion project and due to a lack of resources, it was released in an unfinished state. This is a huge dissappointment to many soulslike enthusiasts and backers of the game, as it is obvious from what we have seen even from the smaller scale release, the developer is immensely talented. I truly hope we see their original vision for the game realised in the future as this game has huge potential This video features my favourite section of the game along with a duel with two of the most difficult bosses.
