Warning: Asset Flip!
Medieval Arms is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unity asset store packs, dumped them all in a blender, submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers. Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the real game developers who created the assets, this is plagiarism, cash grab shovelware. This asset flip is a very poorly assembled third person brawler with a bunch of medieval fighter characters dumped on it. All you do is accompany a bunch of NPC soldiers to go fight a bunch of enemy NPC soldiers. Like Mount + Blade, but without any mounts, with out the grand strategy aspect of it, without any progression, and if the combat was utterly crap. You can do combos, though, I suspect that's from the third person brawler assets the developer ripped off when making this asset flip. There's no value here as a real game. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at native display resolution. There's no guarantee this game will look right as a result of this hamfisted design decision. Likewise, controls are locked... the "developer" did the absolute bare minimum and quickly dumped this onto Steam to try get paid for someone else's game assets. We can measure the interest and quality of a game by how much people played it. There's achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for taking 100 damage, this happens in less than 3 minutes of playing the game, trivial to achieve, but less than 9 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month. Considering this is a crap asset flip, no surprises.
Warning: Review Manipulation!
This game features a small number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. Medieval Arms has the utterly unrealistic price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer attacks my review to avoid accepting the truth about this asset flip, they tell a bunch of outright lies at the same time. This dishonesty is harmful to them and to gamers, but their cognitive dissonance explains a lot (and excuses nothing). Let's go into the lies. First lie: This isn't an asset flip. So this "developer" who never had a professional job in the industry and slapped this game together in the space of probably a week and a half crapped this garbage out with a number of full AAA quality game assets, fully animated, with no backing gameplay of any quality? Complete and utter BS, they used someone else's assets and didn't credit them. For profit. Why did the developer lie? The developer then lies about how Profile Features Limited works by claiming it's just about achievements. Bullcrap again. Thousands of indie games without achievements are PFL. Thousands of AAA games with achievements aren't PFL. PFL is all about preventing Russian card scams, only gets lifted from a Steam Direct game after a number of sales and if the developer passes certain checks. This is clearly documented by Valve. The developer has outright lied about this. Third lie: Resolution changing and meaningful graphics tweaks. I went into the menu options as I assessed this asset flip. You can't change the resolution, the graphics "tweaks" are just "low, high" etc... garbage and meaningless to gamers, as I stated in my review. Another lie to decieve gamers. The developer laughably claims they didn't pay for reviews. I'm sure the Russian accounts that only write reviews for asset flips from groups like GarageGames and Galescorp took the time out of their day to translate Russian text into broken English for this game completely for free. Gamers, you've seen how the developer is a compulsive liar, so you be the judge. The developer claims I'm "destroying their reputation", but all I've told gamers is the truth about this crap asset flip. If the developer thinks the truth is harmful to them, the problem is all on their side, they should ask themselves if all these lies and this harmful asset flipping is worth inflicting on gamers just so they can pretend for 5 minutes that they're a real game developer. This garbage asset flip pollution is harmful to gamers, this crap should be removed from the store, so genuine amateur developers who do the right thing have less pollution to compete with. The lies, dishonesty and unethical behaviour from the developer, as I've laid out with clear reason and fact, serves only to harm gamers and give real indie developers a bad name. It's harmful and toxic. You can see, now, how such a crap asset flip such as this can come to exist, why gamers should rightfully avoid such bad products. Nothing in the developers lies or pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this game to anyone. Please remove this asset flip immediately.

This game is honestly very good in my opinion and just to be clear it is currently singleplayer. For $9 it has excellent content. It is safe to say the game accomplishes what it set out to do and the price is very affordable and worth it. I would argue that with some patches and updates it is easily worth more than the asking price. I would recommend this for any player like myself that wants to play multiplayer but with bots instead of actual players. Think Call Of Duty with bots but medieval and larger scale. It has very good controller support which is great for players that do not like keyboard and mouse. Currently the game has a few bugs but every game that releases starts that way. I suggest being patient, reporting any issues, and be objective. This game literally released with far less issues than a lot of higher budget games which is very impressive because some of those 100 million budget and higher games spent years making and testing. This is a $9 game and does not have the budget of Battlefield or something like Call Of Duty. I played about an hour offline to test if an internet connection is needed and I can confirm it is not needed. This is truly an offline battlefield style game. I consider it similar to Lord Of The Rings Conquest and Battlefield. There are currently three classes, working movesets, and the combat is pretty realistic when compared to other games in similar price range. One example is as an archer I can't shoot through friendly units while many higher budget games like Dynasty Warriors allow that. For classes you have a sword and shield unit, a two handed sword unit, and an archer. I love playing as an archer because the actual arrow has realistic drop mechanics. Games like Call Of Duty do not have bullet drops regardless of how far you are while in this game the arrow does drop depending on the distance. I played as an archer for a few games and I believe the accuracy is an accurate depiction of real archery. There is not a zoom option while using the bow and arrow but real archers didn't have that either. There are many other positives to this game. Some others is the scale of the battles and you can choose where you spawn when you capture some locations. The battles are massive and the maps are fairly large. The spawning choices when locations are captured makes it very good for trying to stop advancing enemies. I don't want to spawn at the back of the map when I have several captured locations which thankfully this game doesn't do to you. You can have more than 200 bots but since I use a gaming laptop I only went with 150 or whatever the difficulty mode above normal is. The gameplay is just like described, you capture locations. This is similar to Domination in Call Of Duty. Team deathmatch and maybe something similar to capture the flag could work for this game. For capture the flag maybe capture the crown since it is medieval themed? The graphics I would say are very good for the asking price. I have tried three out of the four maps and found all of them very enjoyable. My biggest issues with the game is that you don't have a viewable map while alive (that I know of), units can not be commanded, team size can not be set without increasing the difficulty, and the AI sometimes stands around idle unless attacked or given around 15 or so seconds but that only happens to a few units. If you have 50 units only about 4 or less usually are inactive but the developer said they will upgrade the AI. I believe the difficulty increases based on the amount of the bots and not the difficulty of the AI itself but that is from an hour of playing. Performance is not something I can really comment on because I have a gaming laptop that has bad cooling. I was able to play with over 100 bots and only experienced a slight lag when all units spawned. This is probably due to my PC because it does not perform as well as a gaming desktop and have proper cooling. I would suggest the developers allow unit squads or maybe a system that allows you to order units. This could make the game a lot better with team based battles because then you can order archers to stay on the walls and launch arrows at the enemy while your soldiers fight the enemies. That is just one example. I completely understand if they do not choose to because Battlefield and Lord Of The Rings Conquest did not allow commanding units. I love this game and I am very thankful for it. Very few games exist that are similar to Battlefield and Lord Of The Rings Conquest. It also reminds me of Ravenfield but that game involves guns. I like having a massive team based game with a medieval theme. The developers said they will continue to support the game so I will continue to follow and play this game. They made a post that says their roadmap and I am excited. I would like to see more classes, maybe a few new modes, and more maps but with the current content it is very enjoyable for me. Probably some features that could enhance the game is a minimap for navigation, gender options (not a big thing considering in medieval times it was mostly men fighting in these wars), and possibly the ability to heal yourself? Realistically speaking you couldn't just eat an item and heal yourself back in the medieval times so if they don't implement a healing system then that is not a bad thing since it is just like in real life. I also would like to see splitscreen to play with my friends and family but as a solo player that prefers bots over real players it is still great. Thank you for your time and patience with my review.
Game needs alot of work , but if the dev works on it to improve the game then it can be a good game Edit : ( 18/09/2023 ) Game has been updated with new stuffs like the UI has been changed alot, the dev has added stamina bar and health bar, dev also added the sounds that were missing at launch. The weapons have now levels attached to them which is new . There are some issues that still exist but the dev team is committed to fix the issues in coming updates, anyway this is a good step forward in the age of indie devs abandoning the game after release and running away with the money its nice to see a dev who is working on improving the game ! hope to see more improvements to the game like new modes more attacks more maps etc in the upcoming future updates .
If this game was in Early Access, I'd say buy to support the dev to make improvements. But the game feels lacking for the $8.99 price tag. Archer seems OP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q81jkVXixMI
I appreciate the ambition behind this game, but the execution here is much more COMEDY than it is a fun game to play. Great work in the trailer at making it look about ten times better than it actually is though! LOL. To see what you'll get with this game, you might want to watch my video below! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfnzkYZ67FI MY SCORE: 1.5 out of 10 ( 15% ) NOT RECOMMENDED, even at 99 cents, you'd likely end up feeling like you got one these swords right up your backside!
Nice game. I'll play all free time
Это просто ужасно. Я думал игра будет как Чивалри медивал варфаре, а она пародирует фо онер. Враги тебя замечают только впритык, все бегут одинакого вряд, нет онлайна. короче я еле пол часа простримил...
Alrighty, lets get this out there. While I am proud the developer has pumped out two major updates within the span of a week, I also cannot deny that part of it has come from my own personal feedback. I want to be clear when I say that I know development is hard, especially for a solo dev. And that if I had the ability to leave a "Mixed" or "Meh" type of review, that would be my score for it. Let me start out by saying, I actually had perhaps a bit of fun with the core gameplay loop following the new patch. It is drastically better then what it was previously. Is it enough to tip my opinion. Kinda, sorta, not really. Things definitely feel like they are going in the right direction with this game. that said, I still think they are in that "Not quite there yet" category. But in time, I feel like that might change. My biggest complaints with this game are still the music, and performance. Performance I'm willing to admit could be a rig issue, but seeing as how there are still very few limited options to customize I'll simply leave it as a "Meh." Otherwise, there were good improvements on combat, and the animations feel I'm at least swinging some type of weapon around, and seems that some of my major bugs were fixed so I will say that is also a positive for this game. Truthfully what is really weighing this down from getting a positive review from me is the music, the kinda "Rapid fire updates" and general lack of polish. While I do have high standards, I'm willing to lower them for the indie department, because they don't have the same tools as other studios. That said, there should at least be a level of quality to expect from a developer. If I may address the developer directly, as well as any who might read this review; Give this game a month. A good month of development, as the developer mentioned to me, build a few new maps, perhaps work on a game mode, develop classes or concepts and just work on building that quality of life to deliver a really solid experience, and I think, truthfully, you will have a good game and earn a thumbs up from me. I want to see this game take off. To be something I can say "Hey, I'm proud of this dev for delivering something unlike any other." As it stands, my review will stay up, as it is now for at least the next 1-2 months. I will not be changing anything, unless I notice a substantial change in the game's development. Know that while my review is still negative, that it is truly mixed and that I have no animosity towards the developer at all, or his game.
the game isn't fully polished yet but it can improve greatly if devs will work on it. Not to be rude since I have no experience in game dev but there is a bug to which when using archers the bodies of who you kill disappears which kinda makes me abit disappointed by the deaths and the controls are quite janky but I'm sure it'll become better soon
so keeping in mind that this is a small scale game i must say i really like the concept. its like a battlefield game but in medieval times. i must say there are a lott of glitches and you can easily get out of bounds. but its a lott of fun for what its worth
