Max's Big Bust 2 - Max's Bigger Bust

Ignore the playtime counter, I was playing in early access and got a weird bug with Steam where playtime wasn't counted right. I have hours with this one. One of the funniest visual novels I've come across in quite some time, the bizarre result of years of a dedicated writer creating his own wacky TF centric universe spanning across multiple games (including one that didn't come out due to his work PC dying). The end result is a great story about someone trying to get back their lost life, but also you can turn into a dog girl, get surprised to a pokemon go knockoff match by a cat/slime girl atheist, and possess a robot girl by becoming pure electricity. The most impressive part besides the wildly improved art compared to the other games in this continuity is that the developer keeps improving the skills and trying things I'm surprised are even possible in ren'py, including chapters centered around a fully functioning monster collection and battle game, a variety of adventure game style puzzles, and a ton of completely optional dialog and even main plot foreshadowing scattered everywhere to find. Plus it's hard not to like a game that includes a scene where a wolf man cop is scared of a magical girl who can only make cheese sandwiches because she killed what was basically a god in the last game, and then find him later in another scene the morning after where he did sleep with that magical girl because she bribed him with magically created cheese sandwiches (they are very good sandwiches).

The game might look like the first installment of MBB, but by now * the jokes have become stale * Max' character does not make any sense any more. Basically anything you did achieve for Max in the first game is ignored. * the green haired cat freak comes back. Even worse, she stands for team science. * Art gets reused. Would not be so bad, but the art styles (old vs new) are noticeably different * The Insect game was not a good Idea in A+B. It is not a good idea here either. * The first part had some puzzles which made me feel like a detective. Here - the one which came nearest made me feel like a burglar. The other puzzles feel forced into the story.

Max's Big Bust 2 continues the escapades of everyone's favorite gender bent Aussie cop. The game starts off with a (literal) bang, more transformation shenanigans ensue, and the investigation starts off. As of the writing of this review, only the first four chapters have been released and I have to say that I've enjoyed every moment so far. There are call backs to all of the previous games in the series as well as some that are still being worked on but have not been released yet. One aspect that I love about this visual novel is that there are some creative uses of adventure game puzzle tropes. I always look forward to seeing how a genre of game goes out of its way to be innovative, and mashing together said puzzles is fun to try to figure out. Even with an immersive shattering meta hint system. As a fan of both genres, I find this mashup to be a fun diversion that helps to advance the story without slowing the plot down too much.

Pros -Decent story. -Likable characters. -Nice background beats and intro. -Several funny moments. -Several new transformations -Bon Bon Cons -Didn't care for the quizzes. -Detective scenarios felt a little to long with all the new transformations -Felt a little lost at the start.

Max's Big Bust 2 is the sequel to Max's Big Bust and takes the setting 6 months after Alluna and Brie's events (the spin-off) with more transformation shenanigans, improved Art, and a better Puzzle. MBB2 has a linear story similar to the first game with romance options that branched in a later chapter. MBB2 also improved a lot in terms of Puzzles and Comedy. The Puzzle section might be the most fun section I had in the game. It adds a lot of value to discovering secrets, 4th wall breaking, and options to clear puzzles by using different methods (doesn't apply to all puzzles). The game also has a section of minigames that is called Insectivirus. Overall it's a fun experience, nothing so punishing and it adds value than being a simple VN although at some point you may want to skip it as you need only a few specific insects to clear the tournaments. Unfortunately, what the first one does better, become the weakness in the MBB2. The game lacks CG because the expense was focused on making more character sprites. It is also lacking in the romance department. Some transformations (such as the one in chapter 4) may drive some people away. I rated it 8.5/10 for being a unique take on AUSTRALIA. It is certainly one hell of a gender-bending + TG story. Edit: The game might be tagged Adult Only but that wasn't really the case. It was Valve trying to discriminate VN games as usual. The closest thing it met as AO is just the optical censorship which doesn't play really well with Valve rules.

Great game so far. The writing keeps improving further relative to the previous games, and the puzzles also keep getting better.

The game is interesting and fun to play, even if you haven't played the previous chapters. Would recommend if you were interested in games were gender bender is involved, like Magi Trials or Gender Bender DNA Twister Extreme. The graphic is alright, there are some minor character that aren't drawn very well, but the main one are good, and also patches in future will probably renew some older designes.
