Matadouro: Grindhouse

Matadouro Grindhouse is a over the top pulpy action horror game where you explore a grisly location filled with bodies to rescue a kidnap victim. Positives + Fun Weapons + While it looks "indie" the Grindhouse aesthetic and concept is cool + Basic story but it's all you need + Fun ridiculous over the top gore and enemy choices Negatives - Very difficult, almost ridiculously so - Combat lacks weight and doesn't feel satisfying - Very easy to die without seeing where enemies are - Enemies pre-shoot round walls as they see you through them - Obscure puzzles with lack of clear guidance for some - Needs auto checkpoints While this isn't a bad attempt from a solo developer it currently lacks the polish and accessibility to be fun for most people. If you like punishing difficulty then you may enjoy this but I think the average consumer will just find the game frustrating.

Really wanted to like this one. I liked some of the puzzles and the atmosphere was fantastic. The weapons themselves are nice too. My hangups are around the incredibly rigid combat & hitboxes, as well as just how inconsistent the damage towards the enemies is(1 shot to kill one enemy while another takes 4 shotgun shots.) The save system is wonky too, and you better have no problem running across the map every time you die cos the game has no checkpoints/autosaves. Honestly the game would be pretty good if the combat was smoother & or you didn't die in 2 hits.

Fun Indie game. Combat feels a bit stiff/janky at first but it is fast paced with minimal need to retread the same ground after you die. Good difficulty. The textures are nice tho the rooms are a bit sparse feeling in some places, atleast until you find some of the more grizzly set pieces. It could use allot of polish but you can def have fun with it if you like these kinds of experiences.

Masochist with a nail gun. I raged. I cried. I screamed. I conquered. Loved the gruesome atmosphere, grisly gore and creatively creepy enemies in this game. Combat was clunky and frustrating in parts, with enemies rapid firing from multiple directions and no way to counter it. Confusing damage (some limbmans take 2 shots while others take 6+) Not being able to fire from cover (walls or even the turned tables offered no protection) HOWEVER, aside from that unnecessarily difficult area, I enjoyed the style and overall gameplay! With some fine tuning and a couple more bug fixes, this is a really great game from a solo dev. I did feel a great sense of accomplishment when I finally made it through Maybe recommend this game to your enemies, watch them suffer? teehee

This is a Great indie horror game! It has a good story and plenty of jumpscares and challenging parts. Yes there are bugs and things that should be fixed. The lighting, med-kits, and inconsistent weapon damage to name a few, but I still really enjoyed this game! Played through the whole game on stream and I intend to play it again! Get the game and give it a chance! You will enjoy it!

Matadouro Grindhouse (2024) The pros and cons: Pros: -basic/easy to follow story - weapon variety - atmosphere - sound effects/sound design - enemies variety/design - decent puzzles Cons: - very hard difficulty, easy to die a lot/ almost ridiculously difficult - lack of auto save or check points - rigid/stiff combat - a bit repetitive gameplay A 6.5/10 from me It does remind me quite a bit of Resident Evil, so if Resident Evil is a favorite of yours or if you enjoy classic survival horror games/horror games in general, I think you'll enjoy this game. It's regularly $8. I received it as a free review copy

Really enjoyed my time playing this game! Although a bit rough around the edges however it was a really good time! There was a few jump scares which were well spaced and not over used. The story was easy to follow - but I would have loved to see it unpack more about the cult and our MC. The graphics reminded me of the old school PSX style that we all love but with a rough and bloody edge to them! The dev was kind enough to hang out in chat with me and my community as we all loved their company and really enjoyed the game - well done all around All though not perfect this is an indie gem that is a challenging - hold on to your pants adventure! If you're looking for a game that is full of BLOOD - GUTS and GORE that is a shoot em up/hack and slash then this is for you! The slaughterhouse awaits - if you dare to enter it!
