In pursuit of your missing colleague your car breaks down. You enter the only house for miles to use the phone. What follows next can only be described as an intense, action-driven fight for survival. What horrors lay within the house? Only one thing is certain: you need to get out.
In Martha you're looking for your missing friend name Jack who went to investigate a house that is known for missing persons and possible murders. Somehow your character thinks it's a great idea to go there too. You get trapped inside the house searching for Jack and unraveling the mystery of Martha, her husband, and the family that lived there afterwards. I enjoyed this game quite a bit and had a few decent jump scares. I completed this game to the ending credits and would recommend it as a fun indie horror game. PROS: * Fun jump scares * Can save at anytime from the "home PC" * Puzzles * Great atmosphere & SFX to match it * Game seems to have some form of autosave when you pick up key items, but not regular expendable items * If you die, you can find health & ammo again in the rooms to get inventory restocked CONS: * Little confusing on where to go on some of the puzzles (order of operations was a bit convoluted) * Have to TAB to get into the inventory to swap weapons * Weapon reload is SLOW * Melee is useless * Targeting is bad, which is important for firing the gun to slow down enemies (be ready for some jank) https://www.seravium.com https://twitch.tv/seravium
Curator page here--> DaRevieweD #91 <-- New review every Weekend
Affordable Cat, kinda sounds like something you'd type in the search engine for pet lovers. But anyhow, this dev came up with Martha (MRT) his first published game about a deranged granny hell bent on knocking your teeth out at intermittent intervals! Its price point (a buck cheaper on itch.io btw) and length reminded me of Chilla's Art titles and stocked with a plethora of horror references to seal the deal! Finally, a person of culture!! The titular antagonist and basis of the game; fact-finding mission turned nightmarish fight for survival was reminiscent of my unfortunate time with another old crone, Cassidy. And as for the trapped in a house predicament & key-finding expedition, The Story of Henry Bishop (looky another person's name in the title!). While I really couldn’t stand MRT initially, I quickly came around after outsmarting that rabid old lady and it was truly liberating~
"Martha She Wrote-"
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2495586790 The Gist: You take on the role of Isabelle Hewitt, a journalist in search of her colleague and bestie. The latter of whom had been unreachable for some time, last heard writing a scoop on the unsolved mystery of the Albrecht Estate. Plagued by disappearances of both residents and those from surrounding areas, could there be two new victims tonight?
! ...Stewart!? Sorry to disappoint.

[+] PROS;
(a) What The HAG!? It follows the formulaic 1st-person horror perfectly; you’ll spend a lot of time finding- wait for it… cookies! OF COURSE KEYS!! There are well-written notes to move the plot along and are a great, teary read. But it also blends in action and you will soon arm yourselves with bruise & hole inflicting weapons for a showdown of epic proportion with a boss granny,
undead
and a...!!! I can’t bring myself to say it. MRT is impossible to off, only slowed down or temporarily explodes after sustaining a set amount of damage. You must hurry things along scavenging for the combo to locks, keys to doors all while anticipating where she may spawn next! So far, she has ambushed me from
corners, attic and bends
. Just a hefty balance between brainy and brawny, even the boss fight utilizes both elements. There’s only 1 ending so it wraps it up neatly but it hits you with a staple of horror franch- I mean flicks~ TIPS: 1) MRT doesn’t spawn while you’re outside or in the basement (me thinks). 2) But she can follow you outside… 3) MRT is present for 3 minutes 4) Outlast MRT at the railings by the stairs (b) Where Are My Manors? From the start, you’ll be greeted by a whole lotta mist and not only does it restrict your vision, it also sends chills! The house is your run of the mill family accommodation and that really dials up the plausibility… Martha on the other hand, is unbelievable! She’s so scrawny but remorseless; her voice- constipated and shrill! I just tense up whenever her theme plays and I just run with my willy tucked between my floating head. Then you realize she has some tricks up her bloodstained garments and she contorts into whatever abomination that is, heading straight for ya!! (c) Getting Too Old For This Shi- Actually, a lot of horror references and gosh, I feel so blessed! There’s even an “aww” brief cameo that quickly turns sour brief from Pet Sematary (1989)! But if I really had to draw a parallel then probably the first season of American Horror Story cross-bred with 1408 (2007) and The Shining (1980)! (d) The Good Ol' Days... SCARY: 1st) The Albrechts were recluses, so the thought that they could have gone on unnoticed for decades had it not been for smarmy businessmen or nosy reporters, is very much upsetting and possible. It’s the one time I’m thankful for them~ 2nd) This curse doesn’t discriminate, consuming anyone and everyone for generations. With the case deemed untouchable by authorities, it only works in its favor. The hopelessness stews and injustices growing bigger for those whom tragedy had befallen upon. 3rd) Exact nature of the curse’s origins is a little iffy. Is it the ground on which the residence was built? Could it be the house itself?? Or maybe a certain individual?! When it comes to aspects of the supernatural- anything goes and all bets are off.
[-] CONS;
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2495604277 (i) Take Twenty, Senile! The biggest, fattest offender is the progress saving which is downright insane and showing utter disregard for your mental well-being. I’m talking about how scares are recycled into thinking it’s your first time experiencing them. Each time you reload, you remark “where did the door go”, the obscene paintings revert, cue the loud effects to get you and safes & codes are secured again. Even the doors, cabinets magically shut themselves. But what’s strangest and unfair, is the way ammunition from your chamber disappear and so you dip from your precious reserves each time you jump in and this applies to every weapon!! Making a specific achievement near paradox level unless you one-shot it!! (ii) Such Lovely Home- to Put You in... The buildup of Martha’s arrival was what made it so tense and didn’t let up! …until it did. Picture this, you pick up a key from an undisclosed location and then suddenly this foreboding music blares and there goes that witch now!! It was rather jarring- at least have a cutscene to really milk the moment! Then the protagonist is just all for it, with no complaints whatsoever- like who is this old chick? Or why are her nails digging into me??? (iii) Prescription Mix-Up~ BUGS: x Floating corpses in backyard x Reloading of firearms animations sometimes jam x Respawning of resources (lol, shut up). x Items picked up through boarded up cabinets. x Danger music will sound if near the backyard walls. x MRT’s AI goes haywire sometimes. NITPICKS: ~ Doors open way, WAY too slowly… ~ Only 1 or 2 doors can be closed. Others stay open…!! ~ My melee weapon swings kill me every time (not literally). ~ Quicker weapon select; scroll-up feature to cycle between weapons! ~ Notebook or “files” tab in inventory to review notes quicker. ~ Some hard to connect dots for plot. ~ Why can’t a shovel destroy boards? Is this SH Downpour!? ~ Inconsistent lighter flame?
"Tango De La Martha"
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2495610000 MRT's like a visit to the grandparents. You're dying to leave and wanna curl up in a ball, but soon realize it ain't so bad. Then have the time of your lives or is it deaths~ I felt so overwhelmed and challenged by Martha. It’s a test of wits, reflexes, patience and so rewarding once you’ve figured it all out! There are a buttload of horror references and it’s just one hectic night of fun!! The weirdest handicap is the way resources get drained and the game goes short-term memory loss on you! Which can be pretty frustrating and you can’t help but roll your eyes. Then comes MRT’s reign of terror-the main selling point though lacking in a spectacular entrance and appropriate response sucked out what could have been pointers for immersion… Overall, I was immensely entertained, occupied and freaked the heck out of!! Yeah, it’s riddled with setbacks, peculiarities but chances are you can and will get past them because it’s a solid horror head to toe, and I can say the same for MRT~
8.5/10
Martha II, kinda has a nice ring to it ;)
Appreciation goes out to Affordable Cat for da key!
I like the game, a few nice scares, overall spooky atmosphere, a few puzzles mixed in and with some combat here and there aswell. All in all a sweet little horror game, that all Indie horror game fans should enjoy, especially for this price. I would however wish that i had a constant light source. I know.. Darkness is scary, But I also enjoy looking at my environment. But that aside. Thanks for this little fun gem. Recommended.
Saw this game suggested on Reddit and was looking for a new game to do a let's play over so I decided to give it a shot. To start with the pros this game has an amazing atmosphere, the jump scares were great and well placed, and the way the scare factor ramps throughout the game is great as well. The game looks really well to boot. On the other hand, per usual you use E to interact... however as not per usual it works maybe 33% percent of the time. More than a few times I was stuck on a document page unable to click out of it. There were even a few instances where none of the buttons worked except for movement and the lighter. I had to uninstall this game and reinstall it twice to complete my playthrough. One "game braking" glitch happened when I just started randomly floating into the ceiling. The second right after a jump scare I phased into the furniture unable to get out. In the end with a bit more tuning this game would be amazing for the time spent playing and the price.
game bad, although 2 hours spent playing the wrong game could think of worse things to play to pass the time. Also why the ♥♥♥♥ does the dog scream like Martha?
This game is priced low for a reason. The whole thing feels cheap and outdated. This is just another low-budget typical indie horror game made with the Unity engine where every single door seems to be locked and you need to go on a key hunt. Movement is clunky, textures are muddy, gameplay is dull, notes are uninteresting, you cannot remap controls, there is no rain effect, you can only sprint a very short distance, combat is extremely unresponsive, shooting guns is a joke, interaction is also unresponsive and finicky, your character moves at a snail's pace and breathes hard until you heal, sometimes pressing the heal button does not work, getting stuck on certain objects and attacks from the enemy cause frame rate drops, the inventory system is awful and cheap looking, there is no direction how to proceed, and the game is not scary at all. Overall, I found this game unenjoyable and I cannot recommend it.
Definitely worth the 2-3 bucks or whatever it cost, it's short like 1-2 hours depending on skill but it's very entertaining. Has some of those classic survival horror elements that I love and is both funny and scary at the same time. The performance isn't great some massive frame drops unfortunately, and it's got some jank to it for sure but also some decent atmosphere and gameplay. Would have liked to see some puzzles and wished it was a bit longer because I was having fun. I recommend it especially for the cheap entry fee. Check it out if you want some low budget survival horror goodness. 7.5/10
Voto 7.5
