Marlon’s Mystery: The darkside of crime is a detective adventure game developed and published by Made in Mavis that combines investigation, deduction, hidden-object gameplay, and narrative-driven storytelling into a compelling crime-solving experience. Drawing inspiration from classic detective fiction while incorporating modern adventure game mechanics, the title places players in the role of Abby Marlon, a determined investigator tasked with unraveling a complex mystery filled with deception, secrets, and unexpected twists. What begins as a seemingly straightforward case gradually transforms into a far more intricate narrative, rewarding players who pay attention to details and enjoy piecing together clues. The story serves as the foundation of the entire experience. Abby Marlon and her partner Jared Evans are hired to investigate a wealthy family's troubling situation involving a missing woman who has been accused of murder and theft. As the investigation progresses, the case becomes increasingly complicated, revealing hidden motives, conflicting testimonies, and long-buried secrets. The narrative constantly evolves as new information emerges, making it difficult to predict where the story will ultimately lead. This sense of uncertainty keeps players invested and encourages them to continue searching for answers. One of the game's greatest strengths is the way it actively involves players in the investigative process. Rather than simply presenting information through cutscenes, the game requires players to gather evidence, question suspects, examine crime scenes, and connect seemingly unrelated pieces of information. Every discovery feels meaningful because progress is directly tied to the player's own observations and deductions. This approach creates a stronger sense of immersion and allows players to feel like genuine detectives rather than passive participants. The mystery itself is well-paced and carefully structured. New clues are introduced gradually, ensuring that players always have something new to investigate without feeling overwhelmed. As the case expands, previously overlooked details gain new significance, encouraging players to reconsider earlier assumptions. This layered approach to storytelling helps maintain suspense throughout the adventure and gives the investigation a satisfying sense of progression. Character development plays an important role in the overall experience. The game features a large cast of individuals connected to the central mystery, each possessing their own personalities, relationships, and secrets. Conversations are more than simple information exchanges; they often reveal motivations, emotional conflicts, and hidden agendas that influence the direction of the investigation. These interactions help make the world feel believable and provide additional depth beyond the primary crime narrative. Abby Marlon stands out as a particularly effective protagonist. She is intelligent, persistent, and approachable without feeling overly idealized. Her success comes through careful reasoning and attention to detail rather than exaggerated detective abilities. This grounded portrayal makes her easy to connect with and reinforces the game's emphasis on logical investigation. The clue management and deduction systems are among the most satisfying gameplay features. As players collect evidence, they must organize information and establish logical connections between various pieces of the puzzle. This mechanic transforms the investigation into a genuinely interactive experience rather than a series of scripted events. Successfully identifying relationships between clues creates rewarding moments that mirror the satisfaction of solving a real mystery. Hidden-object segments are integrated naturally into the investigative structure. Instead of feeling disconnected from the narrative, these sequences serve practical purposes within the case. Searching environments for important evidence encourages thorough exploration and careful observation. Because these sections directly contribute to the investigation, they feel meaningful rather than artificially inserted to extend gameplay. The visual presentation is another notable strength. The game utilizes a colorful hand-drawn art style that gives characters and locations a distinct personality. Environments are detailed enough to support exploration while maintaining visual clarity during investigative sequences. The artwork helps establish the game's atmosphere and contributes significantly to its identity. While it may not possess the graphical fidelity of major studio productions, the artistic direction is consistently appealing. The variety of locations keeps the adventure feeling fresh. As Abby follows leads and uncovers new information, players travel through numerous environments connected to the investigation. Each area introduces unique clues, characters, and story developments, preventing the experience from becoming visually repetitive. Exploring these locations contributes to the feeling of conducting a large-scale investigation rather than solving a single isolated incident. The writing deserves particular praise for balancing mystery with character-driven storytelling. While the murder investigation remains the primary focus, the game also spends time developing the personal stories and relationships surrounding the case. These secondary narratives enrich the experience and help create emotional investment in the outcome. The supporting cast feels more substantial because they exist as more than simple suspects or witnesses. Puzzle design further strengthens the gameplay. Many challenges require players to analyze information and apply logic rather than simply searching for objects. These moments reinforce the detective fantasy and provide variety throughout the adventure. The puzzles generally strike a good balance between accessibility and challenge, encouraging critical thinking without becoming excessively frustrating. The pacing occasionally slows during dialogue-heavy sections, particularly for players who prefer faster-moving adventures. Some investigative sequences can also feel more straightforward than experienced mystery fans might expect. However, these minor issues rarely diminish the overall quality of the experience because the central mystery remains engaging and consistently develops in interesting directions. What ultimately makes Marlon’s Mystery successful is its understanding of what makes detective stories enjoyable. It focuses on gathering evidence, questioning assumptions, connecting clues, and gradually uncovering hidden truths. The game respects the player's intelligence and allows discoveries to feel earned rather than predetermined. Every revelation contributes to a larger narrative that remains intriguing throughout its runtime. For fans of crime fiction, visual novels, adventure games, and detective mysteries, Marlon’s Mystery: The darkside of crime delivers a rewarding and thoughtfully designed experience. Its combination of engaging storytelling, memorable characters, satisfying deduction mechanics, and well-crafted investigations creates a compelling mystery adventure that successfully captures the excitement of solving a complex case. While it may not reinvent the genre, it offers a polished and enjoyable detective experience that consistently rewards curiosity and careful observation. Rating: 7/10
