This game isn't bad per say. If I could, I'd probably would give it a ''meh'' option, but Steam doesn't have that sadly. I'll say is that this game is mostly forgotten about and is pretty old, which is basically it's biggest issue. Unlike Hearts Of Iron IV (and maybe EU4? I have not yet played it), there isn't an active community behind it making mods (I mean a google searching mods and you won't even find that big of a list) to keep you entertained or have an incentive to play the game. Paradox themselves also abandoned this game with them not even trying to milk DLCs out of this title at all. I think this game had potential, but it didn't get the attention or effort it needed.
Gameplay
Well, first and foremost, this game has a better tutorial than Hearts Of Iron IV (yippie!), however it still isn't that good to understand the game and what you're supposed to do. Thing is, it's worse than Hearts Of Iron IV in regards that; unlike that game, March of the Eagles isn't that big or remembered. What I mean by this is that, even though Hearts Of Iron IV has a bad tutorial, YouTube has tons of tutorials for you to understand the game and specific small tutorials for you in-case you wanna learn about this one action or this one aspect of the game - opposed to March of the Eagles where on Steam there's only 3-4 guides, and on YouTube, I only found one good guide on the game. Your best bet is to watch play-throughs and try copying that until you get the hang of it, or try trial and error-ing your way through the game. The gameplay itself, from what I've heard from friends,, is a simplified version of EU4 combat (take this with a grain of salt, I never played EU4). Personally, I'm not a fan of the combat in this game. I prefer combat to something like Hearts Of Iron IV, with front-lines - instead of making the effort of manually parking my divisions on provinces that border another nation and making sure my strength level is high enough to defend or advance.
Difficulty
The A.I. feels unfair sometimes. What I mean by this, is that, A.I. has an habit of declaring war out of no where and doesn't follow a distinct pattern. The game can also be annoying with it's peace conference gimmick. I can't say much about this part, besides, play it and see for yourself.
Conclusion
Short review, but that's really all I can say about the game. The game lacks in contact both mod and DLC wise. The A.I. seems broken. The tutorial is meh, and it sometimes can be annoying. My personal recommendation is to try getting this game on sale, it isn't worth full price.
i feel like this game deserves a remaster or sequel. the community for it is small but i feel like thats due to paradox seemingly shelving it before it could really spread its wings and come into its own. if it were to be revived im sure it could succeed, even if the success comes at the cost of dlc peddling like the rest of their games. if you can catch this game on sale then i really recommend giving it at least a try, especially if youre into hearts of iron.
Honestly is not a bad game per se, but I finished it in 3 hours. I mean is fine bc I got it for less than $5 with both DLCs, but this is hardly a full game. It actually could easily be a EU4 scenario. I refunded the game after I finished it, not worth even $4,99.
best game ever too bad no DLC
Wonder if im allowed to write this even without steams steam guard fascism? Anyways the game is an exercise in finding and releasing vassals. It is however BADLY half finished with LOADS of missing even historical never mind other releasables states.
It's bad yeah.
MEH.
