The only Luxor game I didn't enjoy.
fajne ale szkoda że nie ma acziwkow :)
I was a bit skeptical going into this one since Luxor games are usually match 3 games and not mahjong ones but the game sure did deliver. It is great with a whole bunch of content.
Luxor Mahjong has a few of the same problems as the other Luxor games, with the main one being the slog of a campaign, which is probably longer since most games of mahjong solitaire take longer than the marble blast levels. I know that technically the stages should be played a little at a time, with a steady progression towards the end, but there has to be a better way to present the campaign than a winding road of [checks longplay] 22 stages containing 100 levels. The game isn’t that visually interesting. Yes, it was released in 2009, but mahjong solitaire is far more common and less interesting as a concept than a marble blaster, so the presentation matters even more. Oddly though, I much prefer the game’s audio to the main Luxor games. Despite the lack of variety, stage theme here is far more active, and those sound cues with the horns and the stage complete theme are very rewarding to listen to. I do think this game succeeds from some other design points. The menus and interface are well-organized, especially in comparison to Luxor 1 and 2, and the goal of matching the key tiles, allowing you to increase your score by leaving other tiles on the board, is a good variation on the typical formula. Is it worth buying? It’s definitely not a must-play and definitely not worth full price. When it comes down to it, I’d look for something that has better presentation. I can appreciate these games’ no-frills approaches to presentation, which is sometimes preferable to forced narrative elements, but you still have to be engaging from an aesthetic and sensory standpoint, and I feel these games are outdated in that regard.
Luxor Mahjong is an odd entry into the series, but still enjoyable enough. I would place this one more in the middle rather than heavily place it in recommend or not. If you are a mahjong enjoyer, this game will feel at home. The strange thing, of course, is Luxor titles beside this one are match 3 style puzzle games on a track. It is different, but alright. The audio and music is there, the music fitting with the Egyptian theme. The visuals are fine for the time, but definitely seem too manila and could benefit from different tile skins. Game play is almost the same as classic matching Mahjong, with the twist of having God powers to help you solve the puzzles. Multiple modes to mess around in and a variety of different and challenging levels to play. No really story, just complete levels to obtain artefacts to restore favor to the gods. No issues or bugs encountered. Not too much else to say as it is relatively straight forward, you either like matching Mahjong or you don't. It is alright for Mahjong, but I have definitely played better. Also, having been a fan of Luxor for quite some time, I never played this one back in the day. Receiving it in the Luxor bundle is the best way, but I would still recommend buying the bundle on sale as it is a bit high for how old the games are (and the fact that a few of the titles need a patch to properly run them on modern hardware).
It's LUXOR MAHJONG
