The one thing that Mahjong tile matching games didn't need was to be in 3D. EnsenaSoft, kings of making games nobody wants, quickly answered the call with Mahjong Deluxe 2: Astral Planes. This is a Mahjong game where you can't see all the tiles without spinning the 3D world around, which EnsenaSoft have made into a fairly unpleasant activity with very poor optimisation and clunky handling. Not worth $3, because you can play 2D Mahjong games for free, and they're all better than this. An important note: EnsenaSoft are known asset flippers and have previously taken other developers work and put it on Steam in an attempt to scam gamers into buying asset flips. One example of EnsenaSoft doing this is Puzzles at Mystery Manor, which is really the "[url=https://unityfreaks.com/asset/1320]Abandoned Manor MegaPack v.2[/url]" asset, written by the actual developers, Man-Man. Asset flips are harmful to the gaming industry. They're nothing but cash grabs, and they harm genuine indie developers by reducing their visibility on Steam. Because this game might be an asset flip, as well as the other problems with it, it's impossible to recommend.

A sequel to Mahsung Deluxe, Mahjong Deluxe 2: Astral Planes does fix a lot of problems I've had with it's previous itteration. The soothing tracks and visuals make the game a much more calming experience and create a zen-like state that is meant to be expected in puzzle games. It's main difference lies in the three-dimensional aspect of the gameplay with the tiles arranged in complex shapes and figures meant to engage the player with interaction with each challenge presented. However, this falls flat on it's face due to poor control and camera movement. Majority of the time spent is fighting with the camera and utilizing your memories to properly complete each of the challenges presented. While puzzle games that create calming expereinces should be able to be enjoyed in long play sessions, Mahjong Deluxe 2 suffers from repetative and slow progression due to the nature of getting lost with the camera. Especially considering the camera rotates making piece essentially change shape. While this can help the player move faster by being able to recognize shapes as they advance, they're is no incentive to do so as once again there is no losing in this game. I failed to ever get lower than 3 stars on each of the 84 stages as the game does not follow traditional mahjong rules. You are able to select and match literally any piece regardless of its location which removes any element of challenge from moving the cube as most of it comes down to "Where is this piece on this figure?" It becomes more of a iSpy style of game moreso than a Mahjong one and that's unfortunate as I actually enjoyed the game to a fair extent for what was offered. However, a lack of challenge, it's very repetative levels, and a overall sense of bordem progressing onward through the second half of the game makes this a hard pass. Delicious is still the apex imo of single player Mahjong games on Steam and this once again misses the mark but is much closer than the previous entry.
