Blind Playthrough This is a fantastic offering in itself as it stands, and a sound investment for future contest as well. This is a game that fills the immersion quota to a T, and never lets go of your imagination. While it is not without flaw, it is astounding how far this game has come in such little time since its infancy. What shines here is the attention to detail; the world in which the game takes place is colorful and stylized, with crisp textures mapped onto detailed models. Interactions involving the magic have had an immense amount of focus put onto them, and it shows. I haven't explored a large amount of the story yet, but the atmosphere lends a lot to the lore in itself. Gameplay was clearly the focus, yet despite that the surrounding elements shine just as brightly. The music and sound design are a delight as well, once again tying a bow on this gift of a game. There's a lot to like here, and a lot to look forward to. Unlike many games in Early Access, this is one with a devoted and responsive dev team ready to adapt and grow. Many of the flaws I had during the game have already been resolved, just days after the stream. (For example, the robot's dialogue is now skippable.) Give this game a chance, and give it an opportunity to grow. I'm excited for its future.
On of the best physics / gesture based VR games I have ever played. Definitely has some kinks to iron out, but what early access game doesn't? Worth a try.
yeehaawwwww Shlomdog approves!!!
If you like the anime avatar go for it
This is perhaps one of my favourite VR games so far. There is a nice mix of exploration and adventure. There is a diversity of different puzzles in the adventure sequences that are clever, entertaining, and challenging. I wish that more VR games had this sort of adventure style. The mix of gesturing and button-pressing for the magic feels clean and natural. I found the fire magic to be the most useful and fun, and it had some new, interesting uses when used in tandem with earth magic. However, there are some oddities with the earth magic: with the boulder and wall spells, there is a good chance that whichever stone you are trying to summon will not arise. Also, with the boulder spell specifically, it is somewhat difficult to summon a big boulder. Further, when using telekinesis on boulders and the earth walls, I could move the earth around just fine but could not figure out how to move them closer or further from me. With my (albeit limited) use of the air magic, I could not get the hover hands spell to work. My difficulties with air magic carried over to the sandbox mode, but not with the water magic. I felt that the water magic was rather too well-developed to have been left out of the current version of story mode. In fact, it feels like the air magic is the only one that needs substantial improvement - the other three elements feel they are in the stage where only small edits and tweaks are needed. I should note that I have only played the story mode and the sandbox mode. As I have not played the arena mode (yet), I cannot include it in my review here. Lastly in terms of apparent bugs or issues: there are two hidden achievements for the game and multiple progress meters in the ship. I have done the necessary criteria for the two achievements but was not awarded them. Likewise, I attempted to 100% the current story mode, yet while still missing two earth crystals and one lore page, I somehow have over 120% of the story completed and close to 200% of the crystals. I think the crystal percentage is counting all 40 elemental crystals but considering 20 as "100%" - this may also be suggested by the fact the game congratulates you for beating the early access story even if you have not gotten any of the earth crystals yet. As for some miscellaneous ideas and flavour that could be added, it would be nice to see some subtle features such as subtitles (as in, closed captioned dialogue as well as Minecraft-style directional subtitles), toggle-able or story-specific day-night cycle (maybe even a toggle-able realtime light cycle), customisable gloves, and perhaps a wider variety of powerful fruits to join the cloud fruit. Overall, I would highly recommend this game and am excited to see the full release. I rate it 4.5 / 5.
Magitek is great compared to other VR games and has lots of fun. The art looks really cool, the spells are fun and interactive, and the enemies are challenging. I would highly recommend this game to anyone wanting a REAL GAME rather than just a janky tech demo claiming to be a game. EDIT: After further playing and waiting for updates, I am starting to lose faith. Initially, I thought this game was going to be great due to its promising start in early access. I believed the developers had a clear plan for the game's final form. However, as time progresses, it seems they lack a definite direction in development. The second island isn't released yet, despite it being a while, though it is scheduled to release pretty soon. I think it could have been released earlier if they hadn't started side projects within the game, such as adding an arena mode and other features. Another big issue is the spells still seem to have no direction in terms of usefulness. You have a lot of mana in the game, you can just spam spells basically forever with no drawbacks. Also the spells are very hard to use consistently and most have very similar gestures, so you end up casting the wrong spell all the time. Another thing is the spells are very bad feeling in terms of aiming, they never really go where I want them even with some practice I can consistently shoot the spell 90 degrees in the wrong direction. My biggest thing is there is no reason to use anything other than the basic spell for each element. The basic spell for each typically has some aim assist on it so you can actually use it reliably (if it doesn't cast something else), so you can just spam this with no drawbacks and things die pretty fast too. Also the fire and air spells are basically just the same and don't have a lot of variety in their own element. For example the fire element has a small aim assist fire ball, a regular fireball, bigger fireball, and a really big fireball and a flame thrower. Then air seemed to be almost as same felling, but with a bit more variety. The earth spells feel a lot cooler and don't suffer from this issue, but this comes back to the main point. Why would I use any of them. This game should be making it worth your while in a fight to do the cool stuff and use the cooler abilities, but doesn't and just ends up feeling like I am handicapping myself because I want to have fun. Another big thing is the enemies in the game. They are only a few enemies and only 2 different that I saw in the fire island (the only story island available right now, I thing more in the arena mode). They are flying ranged enemies that will shoot fireballs at you which is alight, along with increasingly bigger versions, but not for every enemy. Its just a bunch of sentries that will shoot you, so as long as you are constantly moving you wont really get hit. Then the other one is a spider that crawls twords you then explodes doing lots of damage. This is also a good enemy, but I need more ideas like this to spice the game up. I saw they are adding humanoids to the game soon, but from the videos they have it looks like a sentry on the ground that will just shoot you. This isn't really a new enemy that would spice the game up. Another major thing is there is melee combat in the game, but no enemies use it and it feels really bad to use a sword against bots in the sky. Honestly they need to incorporate it into the enemies or just remove it outright, cause currently it just looks like they had no idea what they wanted the combat to be, so they just added everything they could think of till it stuck. I could write a bit more, but from this it is clear that without someone to take the helm this game will stay directionless and boring.
very great potential this game has. this game is really great
this has so much potential, the fire is a little inconsistent, but doesn't take away from its fun, the air spells in the demo feel somewhat overpowered. i would like to see characters that aren't robots though. Edit September 25th 2023: gawd damn i never knew you guys would see this. i played today for the first time in a while and already i see talent and passion going into this game, there is real potential here, just keep doin what you guys are doin. if i saw any of you in real life id give you the fattest high five. the waterbending feels really good to use, and the latch mechanic with the tentacles are like extensions of my reach instead of just tentacles, air is very different to use now but it has some of its own obvious strengths. fire is good as always, but earth, bold to remove something, but if you guys are doing what i think youre doing and giving that rock move to the baddies, i wouldnt have it any other way. all the elements are taking shape so well. i interacted with the humanoid charaters and i immediately thought *BONEWORKS*, so props for that. im so damn exited for whats to come next. stay cool guys.
Tbh It's in the middle for me. The story is kind of lame. If it had PvP, it would be a solid game.
This is a fun game! The story is good, the spells feel natural and aren't too hard to use, the enemies aren't too strong but also aren't too easy, and CARL is a fun character. The only thing that could really be fixed is the earth boulders dealing damage the moment you touch it. This glitch caused me to be instakilled after accidentally walking into a large boulder. Other than that, this is a great game!
