This game is WAY to expensive for what it is. Even with a 50% discount it is still WAY to expensive! The game itself is a bit to simple. You basically wait, then upgrade potions, then wait. You don't get to use the potions, you just upgrade them. It would be nice to be able to click on them for effects, but it's just to overly simplified. The story wasy great, and made me laugh, but it was so short. The game took 14 minutes on easy mode. There is only two modes, easy and hard. With hard, the potions reset to lvl 1 upon death, and not with easy mode. There is no way to leave the dungeon, you just go until you die. Then you go again until you die. That's it. This game is worth $1, maybe two if feeling generous, but that's all. If you get this game at 90-95% off, then I recommend it. It will be a funny few minutes.
I was hoping to find something similar to Recettear, however this game (while similar in concept) is striped from almost any gameplay. The exploration is automatic (and by exploration I mean moving the character from one rectangular to another, no difference between 'rooms'), the fight is automatic and the only thing that player is supposed to do is click on upgrates every 30sec-1min. For this price I was expecting much more, as most mobile games have more gameplay. Unfortunately for me this was a waste of time - especially for this price.
Disappointingly similar to an idle game, definitely expected more for the price. Admittedly only played for maybe an hour tops but didnt seem like there was any more to the game. Will admit its not that much worse than most other idle-esque games, but the price is what really makes it disapppointing, there are better idle games for free on steam
*revised 10 years later and full achievement completion* The game design is especially frustrating near the end of the game, as it demands you a certain sets of upgrades within the game mechanics. It's either you have these collected, or instant or near-instant game over. I felt let down a decade ago purchasing and playing the game, and I still feel the same way. At least all achievements are unlocked... *original review below* Bought it from Playism with a STEAM key (played & finished the game with Playism direct DL). It's a cute game with good storytelling that leaves you wanting more, but the actual game play - unfortunately - is [too] short to justify the price. With only few challenges (achievements included) in the game, after unlocking them there is not a whole lot to do. Some players may find this game refreshing in its choice-based and rather simple game style - I did enjoy the lower dungeon level/floors because it requires a careful upgrade strategy to continue on. But as you come close to the finish, things inflate at an exponential rate (damages, healed HP etc) such that the earlier gameplay (and the balance) is lost. Good ideas executed with that "Japanese-y" cuteness. Good music as well. If you enjoyed Cookie Clicker and are a 'light' gamer (who don't expect a game to be played over & over and for countless hours), you will like this. Just be aware that it's a very short game.
So, I'm writing this review while the game is playing itself. I lost at the end of a run, and now I have to let the game play back to the point where I'd lost. Admittedly it does this relatively fast, but yeah. That's the first thing you need to know about this game. It's basically an economy sim, where you gradually accumulate resources, choose what to invest them in, and the game simulates all combat / resource gathering in the meantime. There isn't huge depth here, but the game is kind of good despite that. The soundtrack is wonderful, and playing it is mildly hypnotic. As long as you're not looking for anything too deep, this is a fun way to kill an hour. The underlying premise is also pretty novel, and I don't mind seeing more combat rpgs about healers. EDIT: My playtime is reflective of a full, regular run of the game. Also, there are a couple of spots built into the dungeon where you either have the correct loadout of upgrades to succeed, or you get sent back to the start. By the end of the game, you need to have all upgrades fully maxed, and I kind of dislike this design. It removes any real strategy from play, funneling you into a 'correct build' at all times. Still, as a one-off experience, it's not a bad way to kill an hour.
