What do you want here?
"do you want demons in your hospital? 'cause that's how you get demons in your hospital" - the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ protagonist, probably Symbolism can be a treacherous road to walk down, because if you try too hard to leave a message in your work, sometimes it comes off obnoxious, or too obscure to notice. If you don't try hard enough, people might find the message doesn't hold well in relation to the plot. That's what makes a good story - when everything links to the overarching story. Madness Inside is another game from ZV Games, who are committed to delivering a fun experience by way of what might be considered the classic spookhouse aesthetic with scripted scares that are maybe a tad *too* rigid in their scriptedness. At one point I turned too late while walking backwards and the entity that was stalking me was stuck staring at me until I walked back and freed it from its confines by angling the camera just right and standing in the right position. The atmosphere carries quite well, and there were times where the little jumps actually did get a reaction from me. In terms of actual fear factor, the game wasn't particularly unsettling. Not to mention, the protagonist kills the fear by holding your hand through most of the game - by this, I mean that the character will often tell you where you can find your next objective. Some puzzles aren't quite as obvious as others, but they're manageable. I want to say that sometimes less is more, and for the "torture" section, which lasts around five minutes (not to mention, it's not in English, so if you don't speak Russian, be prepared to read and follow the subtitles closely because they'll be a pop quiz) - it felt like there was a bit too much going on. Perhaps that's simply my shoddy attention span, especially as the questions seem to just be you repeating what was said back to them in your answers. Graphically, it's about average for an indie horror, especially for a newer dev. I think the game carries with it a certain promise in that some animations were quite detailed, and there's a potential there in the story-telling, even if it's not the most uncommon plot. There are a few cliches, but the psychology parts show a clear respect for research, which I find commendable. I think Madness Inside is a game that I would've enjoyed more had it really *grabbed* me, but I never felt grabbed, mostly because it's rather short, and feels like it's trying to push you through each section with menial tasks that usually include a scare or two. Again, there's promise here - I just think there could be a little more done, especially when there are quite a few bugs, including one where during a chase scene, the monster that's meant to be chasing you disappears after the first stretch of corridor. Not brilliant, but the fact I can see something worth developing here is enough to give it a 4/10.
The game is super generic, from the mental hospital setting to the story itself - I promise you'll guess the ending 2 minutes into the game. The jumpscares are predictable and several times I was triggering things while looking at a different direction, so I heard sounds but didn't see exactly what was happening. This being said, it's also interesting. It's fun to explore the mental hospital and find out exactly what happened. It's good enough if you get it on sale.
Decent little horror game.
Cheap jumpscares. You can pretty much guess when a jumpscare is going to happen. Most of the time they trigger when you're looking in the wrong direction, so I was just hearing stuff and not seeing anything most of the time. It has some sticky notes and folders around to tell the story, but there isn't much to learn about the place. Story is quite lacking. Generic setting, with a lot of cheap sounds being played constantly which got pretty annoying after a short while. They had a dead end hallway where a bunch of sounds kept playing. Like they had kitchen sounds and kids playing, with the sound coming from this dead end that had a window to the outside? It just didnt't make sense, and took away from the immersion. Had a few times where the dev had some animations, these took a while to play out and didn't contribute much to the story. Like why am I watching myself climb through a vent for 2 mins? I could have done that myself in half the time. Good if you can get it a couple bucks.
🔷Madness Inside is a short horror WS (⏱️1h30) taking place in a psychiatric hospital. -Great atmosphere, nice graphics. -No need to run, it's pure walking sim'. -The sound design is amazing, and I was really scared by hearing the sound through my headphones. -Some jumpscares. -The story is okay :) ✅Overall it's a decent little game with minimal gameplay (walk, read notes, solve 2 mini puzzles...). I bought it on sale.
Note 2-
good game scares was to on foward early so didnt get spook and yea great
