cool little action game with interessting combat mechanics
Oh yes, I like it. I could say, without a second thought, that it has a unique gameplay mechanic and, furthermore, at the beginning it can be a bit confusing, but the more you progress, the faster the process becomes and the more interesting it gets. The game can become challenging later in the story. The art style and graphics are enjoyable. The enemy type, the twins, are annoying, I don't know how to describe them precisely, but they kind of ruin the flow.
I kind of wish there was a "neutral" rating or a star system. I'm writing this as a self-proclaimed Wood-tier story-oriented gamer with equally Wood-tier reflexes and multiple other time-consuming hobbies that makes the "Git Gud" path not viable for me. Read my opinion accordingly. I actually liked 95% of the game. The environmental and character designs are great, the story is entertaining (nothing to write home about but gets the job done, absolutely), the lore is interesting, the music is great, the friendly NPCs are all entertaining in their own way (except for the smith, screw her). The game mechanic is unique and interesting, every enemy encounter is a puzzle to be solved with your ever expanding arsenal of weapons, spells and buffs. 100%-ing this game is an insane challenge. (Motes of Magic are useless, they only give you cosmetics, it is not necessary to pursue them on an "any%" run, really.) So why is it "Not recommended" in the end? The very final level is not just a difficulty-spike, it is a Difficulty Mountain Range and it comes out of absolutely nowhere. Up until that point, the game has a very logical and manageable rise in difficulty to the point where even a Wood-tier such as myself could get the hang of it. I certainly wiped a few times, some parts were frustrating, but that is part of the gaming experience. The boss before the final level, I actually first try killed it since the game trained me properly. But the ending is... it is genuinely unbearable. I am physically incapable of getting through it, and it is a terrible, terrible shame. I have no idea why the developers lost this wonderful sense of progression and difficulty right before the finish line, but in my eyes, they did, and it quite literally stopped me from finishing the game. I really wanted to sing the praises of it, but not like this. Never like this. If out-of-the-blue Difficulty Mountain Ranges are your thing, then by all accounts, I recommend this game, you're going to have fun with it. If you are anything like me, wood-tier, story-oriented, or simply doesn't have the capacity for rage-inducing moments for whatever reasons... Then I'm sad to say, but you should stay away. Or be prepared to throw in the towel right before the very end.
7/10
Lysfanga is an alright game. It's fun and has interesting gameplay mechanics. The story, atmosphere, and voice acting are nothing incredible but they never feel jarring or out of place. The biggest thing to know about this game is that it isn't really an action adventure. It has action combat-ish, but that's really not the main challenge of the game. It is definitely more a puzzle game than anything else. That said, it is a very interesting game that makes use of the "rewininding time" gimmick quite well and is fairly enjoyable. Sadly, it's not a great game for completionists as some of the content required for achievements is quite tedious and annoying at times. The "Figments of Battle" specifically I found to be a bit interesting at first, but more irritating than fun as I progressed towards getting S Rank on all of them (which is needed for an achievment). As of writing I haven't even finished that and I don't really intend to as it is just a drag that isn't really fun. The main story, however, is definitely an enjoyable experience and I do recommend giving it a try.
