A Note To The Developer
Hello, I am a professional Bug Tester, & I had an evening free, so I decided to give your game a casual test. These are my results:
Free Bug Report
1. Ladder climbing is extremely buggy, at one point I was able to float around the map while in the Ladder Climb animation. Currently, the player must stop moving at the top of the ladder in order to subvert this glitch. 2. Roof collision is very weird, with it being easily accessible in many spots but causing a falling animation the entire time. I was only able to escape by finding one tiny spot with proper collision & jumping off. 3. The Shop menu is bugged out, causing it to sometimes stay up indefinitely when opened, regardless of resting at a Lost Grace, furthering the Shopkeeper's dialogue, etc. The only way to fix this glitch is to reset the entire game. 4. Backstabs ONLY work when crouched. 5. The Enemy detection is bugged. This seems to be linked to an issue with Sound Detection from Enemies. 6. Locking On seems to be very buggy as well, with it not working 3/4ths of the time. I could be facing directly at an enemy less than 5 steps away & the Lock On just wont work. 7. Backstabs with Spears specifically seems to be bugged out, with the player animation playing out normally but the Enemy animation doesn't happen, allowing the Enemy to get in multiple free hits as the player finishes the animation. If there are more than 1 Enemy, it is common for the other Enemy to already be mid-combo when your animation finishes. 8. The Equip Load mechanic just seems to be broken. It didn't matter what I equipped, giant Spear or tiny Sword, the Equip Load just stays at 0. 9. 3 of the trees close to the Statue in the first main area with Enemies don't have any collision. These are the trees directly to the left, right, & back-left of the Statue. The player character and the Enemies can just walk right through them. 10. The enemy aggro range is much larger than it should be. I could be so far across the map that the Enemy is just a tiny blip, & they would still aggro. This is okay if intended, as it does raise the difficulty & makes sense realistically, but it is VERY punishing, especially for exploration, as you could visibly not see any enemies at all, but because the aggro range is so large, you could be exploring a random building & suddenly have 4-5 Enemies all attacking at once, clogging the doorway & trapping you. 11. The Two-Handing animation seems to be bugged out, with the Left hand clipping through the Weapon & holding nothing. This applies to all of the weapons. The
Chest opening animation also seems to open above the actual Chests, although the Chests are clearly still in Beta stage
, so I wouldn't really count this as a Bug, necessarily. 12. If you attempt a Backstab on an Enemy that is close to a wall or some other collision, the Backstab animation will play but your Weapon will bounce off the collision, causing your I-Frames to disappear & allowing the Enemy to instantly turn around & attack. This can sometimes still apply the Backstab damage to the Enemy, but most of the time it seems that the Enemy just absorbs the Backstab & gets in free attacks. 13. The Spear's normal attacks do not hit the Enemies. They just swing right over their heads. This obviously has something to do with the Spears Hitboxes. It does not work at all on normal Enemies, but does work on taller Enemies. 14. Staggering does not work at all. Enemies are able to eat any attack from the player. 15. The texture below the Lost Shattered Grace is missing, it has the same Dev texture as the
Beta Chests
. I realize this is not a finished game, however, it seems like this might have been overlooked, as the rest of the area is fully textured. 16. After I got the Shopkeeper's menu to work, I bought the
Chestplate
, & when I went to equip it, I was unable to exit the Armor menu. Every time I pressed Q to exit, the button prompts would disappear at the bottom of the screen, but the menu stays up. 17. I was able to Backstab kill an Enemy, & while doing so, I took a hit AFTER the Enemy had already died & fallen to the ground. 18. Not sure if this is a separate Bug or not, after the 1st Backstab on a regular Enemy, he just froze in place. He would not re-aggro, he would not attack me, & after circling him 4-5 times, I just walked up & Backstabbed him again, killing him. 19. When I clicked back into the game window, the player character suddenly zipped forward & Backstabbed an invisible Enemy. It was very odd. 20. Not sure if this was intentional, but when Levelling up, the game allows you to apply 1 level too many, causing you to not be able to actually press the Level-up button. 21. Backstabs do not work on stairs. 22. There is no Cooldown on Backstabs, meaning you can Backstab, then immediately run behind the Enemy & Backstab again before they get up. 23. If you try to scroll the Item Belt while two-handing a weapon, it will cause the player character to switch back to 1-handing the weapon. 24. Left Hand/Shield just does not work at all. I equipped the Shield, pressed the Left Hand button, & nothing happens. 25. The 2nd boss,
Voran
, has a great design, but his Backstab animation is also nonexistent. He CAN be successfully Backstabbed, but there just isn't any animation for it. EDIT: This seems to go for every Backstab, regardless of Enemy type. 26. It seems that Backstabs with 1-handed weapons are more powerful than their 2-handed variants. This seemed to be most prevalent with the
Red Sword that you get from the 2nd boss, Voran
. --------------------------------------
Additional Notes
First, it's clearly a gameplay clone of Elden Ring, though I do not want the words "Elden Ring clone" to discourage you from what you're doing here. I don't see the problem with having more of a good thing. Secondly, I would like to point out the balancing issues present in the Tutorial/Demo. Let me break it down:
Each common Enemy yields around 1,500-2,500 Souls. Each uncommon Enemy yields around 15,000-25,000 Souls. Each level up costs about the same as it does in a Souls game. The recovery items are 50 Souls, & the other materials are 10 Souls. Kill just a few Enemies, & you are maxxed out at 99 Rej Apples.
This also applies to levelling up. Which brings me to my next point... Third, regular combat isn't viable. The Enemies don't have Stun, meaning you will most likely die instantly when attacking. Even after 20 Vigor & 27 Strength, I still could not fight a regular enemy 1 on 1. Nothing works as intended, I-Frames are nonexistent unless doing a Backstab, & they take no stagger damage. I would shorten the aggro range for Enemies, include more I-Frames during rolls & animations, & lower the difficulty of the Enemies in general. Just a quick note, the 1st boss has too much HP. It took me over 15 minutes. He also heals infinitely which does not make the grind any easier. In conclusion, I did have a very enjoyable experience with my time playing LUNATHREN, I just really enjoy Bug Testing new, Independently-developed games, & I wanted to help you out as much as I could with my play time. I can't wait to see what you bring to the table & what you can develop this project into in the future! Good luck, & I can't wait to see the finished product!!!
I have only put in a few hours so far but even though at the moment it is jank and has a lot of bugs I can see the vision and really can't wait to see where they go. I am playing it on my steam deck on low settings for the best performance. A little bit of a heads up to anyone playing this for the first time. In the first village you can pick up crafting items and if you go into your menu there is a crafting option and you can craft a sword.
It certainly is janky
I personally like this game but I can't recommend it. The worst part of the game is that you can aggro enemies, then run away and when they turn their backs you can perpetually sneak attack them in a stun lock kind of way. Sometimes when you die the game will start you over in the jail cell from the very beginning of the game from when you first start a fresh save file. You don't lose any of your progress but it's it's always super weird whenever it happens. So the camera never moves freely. So you're walking forward and you're trying to look behind you the cameras always going to force itself to look in the direction you're moving and there is no setting in the options menu to change this.
