About
From the creator of Lost in Vivo and Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion, Lunacid is a horror ARPG from a bygone era. Immerse yourself in a dark, desperate world full of foes, lost souls, and hidden secrets.
Long ago, the Great Beast arose from the sea and covered the earth in poison fog. Choking out the land of both life and light, a new era of wonderous misery began.
Centuries have passed. The once hallowed halls and bustling streets are mere shadows. Those deemed undesirable are thrown into the Great Well, a pit of chaos and disease. Cast into its depths for crimes unknown, you awaken in this moonlit subterranean world. Your only hope lies with the sleeping Old One deep below. But many perils lie between you and your ultimate goal.
From the mind of horror master Akuma Kira, Lunacid harkens to a lost era of first-person ARPGs. Legendary for their meticulous design and dense dungeons, the King’s Field series was the Dark Souls before there was a Dark Souls. Long abandoned by AA/AAA developers, the mantle of “King’s-Like” is left to the humble indie. Which is great, because that's where all the cool weird stuff comes from anyways.
The world of Lunacid is bursting at the seams with new things to discover, from hidden magics to secret areas. This isn’t just the odd room with a chest in it; entire new areas await those with a watchful eye. Esoteric puzzles and cryptic hints galore are sure to confound and delight even the experienced dungeon delver.
Take yourself back to a time before dodge rolling. Swipe, backstep, block, and overcome foes with patience and persistence. Featuring a robust body targeting system and unique elemental weaknesses/resistances, each encounter becomes a skilful yet deadly dance of death. Begin your journey as a thief, knight, cleric, or… vampire? Building your character up to you.
Over 75 weapons await you in the fetid halls of Lunacid. 37 Unique spells, each with applications beyond the obvious. Finding them all, however, is another matter. Unless you use a guide. Which hey, we won’t judge.┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌
Don’t forget to save.
Featuring dozens of hours of gameplay and multiple endings, Lunacid is a rich and rewarding take on a classic formula. Relics of past game design long abandoned lie in wait. So jump in the Great Well and let the wonders of Lunacid surprise you. Mimics might just steal your silver instead of eat you.

Great storytelling, ambiance, shading, lighting. Developer has mastered VIBE. I'm a sucker for PS1 Graphics. Not only nostalgic, but they allow for simple, direct visuals and snappy quick gameplay that even a lot of modern large games can't get closed to. Quirky RPG mechanics. Slightly clunky combat, could have better sound effects, but clearly the exploration and vibe is the meat and potatoes of this game. If this became a 30 hour game, it would have gotten annoying. But it mostly respects the player's time. 8/10 experience, 10/10 considering it's solo-developed.
Lunacid feels like a game made by people who genuinely love the era it draws inspiration from, but it never comes across as a simple nostalgia project. It understands what made those older RPGs memorable and builds on those ideas with its own identity. The world is the highlight. Exploration is consistently rewarding because there is always the sense that something interesting could be hidden around the next corner. The game rarely tells you where to go or what you'll find, which makes every new area, weapon, spell, or shortcut feel like a discovery instead of a checklist item. I also appreciate how much it trusts the player. It doesn't interrupt the experience with excessive tutorials or exposition. You're left to piece together the world through its environments, the characters you meet, and your own curiosity. That approach creates a stronger sense of immersion than constant explanation ever could. The low-poly presentation deserves just as much credit. It isn't relying on retro visuals as a gimmick. The art direction gives Lunacid a dreamlike atmosphere that is both beautiful and unsettling, making the world feel timeless rather than dated. Lunacid is proof that a game doesn't need a massive budget to leave a lasting impression. It has a clear creative vision, respects the player's curiosity, and creates a world that is genuinely enjoyable to get lost in. Those are the kinds of experiences I always end up remembering, and it's an easy recommendation.

Lunacid is a unique experience from standard rpgs. Gameplay is plain weak, straight up. Melee is simple and boils down to getting good weapons and using proper elements. Magic is more interesting but two ring slots are abysmal for any combat variety while constantly switching them for proper element types is bad. Endgame boils down to rushing down enemies as it gets somewhat exhausting. (oh god and to view enemy resistances you have to equip a seperate magic so you will have ONE offensive magic slot unless you memorize all enemy elements) There are no upgrades in the game. You will, at most, increase your levels which either won't do much help or make enemies die faster if you follow a proper guide. Why even bother playing a gameplay wise bad rpg? The art direction is phenomenal. Every location looks super cool and has a bunch of secrets(even if some are bs and require a guide). Music accompanying you is atmospheric(i legit use it while reading fantasy books). While the story is barely there, it is impactful and dreadful. Overall tone and narrative of the game is haunting in a good way. You can interpret and perceive the game however you want, it is amazing. Developer said themselves(in recent patch logs) that their code is ♥♥♥♥ and all they want is to make art. It is a game which keeps a piece with you after you complete it and keeps you wondering. Sure, i can play a cool rpg with a dozen of mechanics i will love, but a game which pierces me deeper than anything else is fascinating. Oh and i loved the crow assasin girl.
Let's start with the basics: Lunacid is a diamond in the rough that might not be for everyone. The dungeon crawler genre is a very niche one but it encapsulates everything there is to love about those games here. Here are the *amazing* things you can experience in this game: - A fantastic soundtrack - Captivating story with thought-provoking arguments regarding one's existence - Amazing ambience, you might catch yourself idling to take in the sights - Proper exploration rewards, let it be lore reveals, spells, weapons... There are numerous other that I cannot dive into fully to avoid spoilers or the joy of exploring the game, because this is what Lunacid - the dungeon crawler genre - is all about. Newest of the fallen, if this quest entices you, you need only but pick up your sword and fight.
