Short Review: I tried to do what I would each day and I ended up evicted, alone, peniless and somehow also got tetanus. So basically its IRL. 10/10 best game I've played in months. The writing is great, the characters feel honest and I definitely teared up because so much of the dialogue hits so close to home. A fantastic little journey into 4 magical and/or horrible days in the life of a cute little mouse girl jus 'trying to get by. <3
easily one of the best games i have ever played. wonderful writing and art, worth every penny. most realistic depiction of "the trans experience" i have seen. <3
I played this while ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up on pain meds following bottom surgery, which I presume is how the devs intended it to be experienced. – spectacularly failed to get off with a hot vixen because I was too occupied with desperately trying to reach a deadline and fell asleep before I could submit it, and still got fired, which is how I spent most of my 20s. – encountered the most compassionate british doctor – met a ♥♥♥♥ biker who I also failed to get off with – it turned out my in-game landlord was my irl mum – went for a walk with a weapon 10/10 would recommend to anyone who wonders what an average four days in the life of an english trans woman is like
Other reviews noted the story topics the game goes into, and I agree - it's rough, sweet, desperate, and hopeful at the same time. I'm not one for visual novels but this one is tightly paced, not verbose, and gives you lots of fun dialog branches to explore. I figured I would talk a little about the mechanics and try to avoid spoilers. You have a few in-game days to do things before the game moves to a conclusion, but have a limited number of time-consuming actions you can perform each day (the game is thankfully very clear when you do so). You accumulate quests just from exploring and remembering errands. All of them are pretty interesting, even the filler stuff (is it really filler if you find meaning in it?). There's a 'world map' that's done really well where you can consider your options, and reload if you think you want to try another path. The game does feel made for multiple replays, and once you have a handle on the different chains you can move through them fairly easily - the first playthrough will probably be a bunch of exploring and getting a handle on the world, characters, and tasks, but still enjoyable since your internal dialog tends to be pretty funny and the world has a lot of cute things to check out. Your internal dialog a la Disco Elysium chimes in fairly often and CAN fail checks that put you in a bad spot. There are a few that feel harsh, but they're rare and honestly if you breezed through everything it would be a lot less impactful. Usually failing mean you miss out on a bit of text, often something even funnier happens. Since you'll probably play it a few times it means each run is a little different and you might learn something new late in your time with the game, which is nice. But not everyone enjoys that. Even outside of the game's content (which is great) I really liked the mechanics. I've tried to play other beloved visual novels and they feel dry as a stone. This game hits a great balance and I hope more games follow its lead in the future.
ITS PEAK
Unfortunately this is very me-core and did awaken things in me that shall not be repeated in steam reviews. Excited to play through again now it's on steam although I will not put myself through the gic experience ever again
this game rewired my brain. i will never not think about Ghost and all the weird little freaks inside and outside her head. this is disco elysium if it was about being a perverted 't-slur' (positive) (don't want steam on our ass so just. t-slur). play this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game DO IT
"Time doesn't just have an arbitrary cut off point, Ghost. It keeps going and it never ends."
Lovely Lady RPG is a lot and in the best way possible. Do you want sapphic vibes ("A crusade against lesbians feeling sad.") in an alternate-history world (which doesn't feel that alternate, painfully so) where similar matters are demonised as today, with helpful and unhelpful voices in your head (relatable really), while everything ends up feeling so real and relatable that you will either smile or tear up from happiness, feel seen, called out or hurt by darker moments, be able to just take a breather and exist peacefully with the beautiful art and writing, or go full simping mode, to which I say, understandable, and girl, same. For context, my wifey bought me this game, without even knowing really what it was about, which somehow ended up meaning so much more to me than either one of us expected. I jumped into the game without reading too much about it because of how weird and different it was, not expecting for so many moments to feel as if the writing just puts its hand in my brain and pulls out things which normally I wouldn't be able to do in games or even express or understand myself. As a trans girlie, seeing how Lovely Lady RPG makes everything feel grounded and human (animal in this case? loving it even more) is something which is criminally underrated. There's no ideal or perfect. Things are messy. Feelings, thoughts, reactions, people, interactions and simply living day-to-day. There will be angst and there'll be whimsy. Where you start in the game as more or less a blank slate, there's sufficient background for Ghost to not feel hollow, while also allowing you to embody Ghost and to feel like it's you alongside everyone else. I can go on ranting for much longer and I didn't even get to touch on characters, history, social aspects and everything else. Overall though? Criminally underrated, something that (with the right people) I'll always recommend, fully embracing the mentality of: "Pretty lady. Simple as." - Ghost
this game is so good! also love the map <3
this is actually amazing
