Game releases into a fake 1.0 release Devs killed the previous juggernaut of a game Worlds Adrift, now stealing money with nostalgia baiting. After the games fake 1.0 release (I call it fake because multiple aspects of the game like skills, ship parts etc are still missing) the game has had 3 updates, not even major ones. Nothing added, just mainly hotfixes. This development team really deserved the worst, I hope the go fkn bankrupt. Stop butchering the legacy of Worlds Adrift
I had genuinely high hopes for this game. As someone who spent a lot of time on Worlds Adrift, and saw the potential for it, I was excited to learn that the spiritual successor to that game was being created. Lost Skies seemed very promising. A singleplayer/4 player coop experience with a story telling us what happened to the world? Less MMO tedium? Zero seal clubbing from wannabe pirates? Getting to build our own airships again? I was elated beyond belief. Getting to play the demo only made my hopes rise further. It seemed pretty fleshed out for a demo and I thought the devs were only going to build upwards and refine what they had to give us more. Sadly not much has changed since the demo. I get that the world has ended so it's meant to feel empty but that's just it. It's empty. It's beautiful but empty. You are the last survivor standing on the edge of the abyss looking out to a world that is impossibly empty save for the scant animals left on the floating islands. They give you such rich backgrounds for your character's ancestry but it all feels the same. It's really sad. The game is beautiful and I want to love it. Yet it feels like I'm in a relationship where I want to give it my all but I'm just getting a cold unfeeling shoulder. Seeing how little love it's gotten by the devs also makes me think that Bossa just doesn't really care either. Which begs the question: Why did you guys make it in the first place? You failed with Worlds Adrift and now it feels like the same thing all over again. Just... Quieter. Personally, I think those who weren't apart of the Worlds Adrift saga will get more out of this game with some friends than myself or anyone else I know will. Which is a damn shame.
I truly wanted to love this game, as someone who grew up watching Worlds Adrift videos and dreaming of playing it, then to finally be given the chance to play a like game, I was elated. I tried laughing off the bugs and ignoring the minor nuance mechanical problems. I spent so much time meta gaming the materials for my ship, farming and learning which material was better for each comp. After a bug ruined my first run, I created a new world, sped run to what I believed to be the best mid game ship, then I hit a rock. A rock. A ROCK!!!!!!!! ON MY WINGGGGG!!!!!! The wing didn't just break off, "no" "nooooo" that wasnt enough. The GODDDDD ROCK TURNED HOURS OF GAMEPLAY INTO A BALL!!!!!!!! In games that use the scanner mechanic to promote exploration, this game hardly had anything to scan. All of your items come from loot boxes. Early game I scanned the work bench then unlocked the research table expecting to be able to build it, but no. Nothing you scan is useful in anyway besides earning points towards research. Most of the ore has no distinct visual, I had to revisit most of the islands after realizing the same common rock in fact had several different ores. I would run by each rock with my scanner and it said I was already familiar with the rock, and since I had so much iron, I just ran on by. Building inside the ship in a pain and a half. I laid out a plan for all the utility items and ensured they all had enough space to fit. Sadly the hitbox of most of the items are bigger then the object, making is hard to fit items in tightly. I may revisit in a few months but man, I was quite disappointed.
I gave it another shot, but nope, it is not worth my time ... PROS + tha game feels better after the large patch + grapling hook feels awesome + the "on land" gameplay is OK CONS - the game is unberably slow, it took me over 2h just to get past the tutorial island and get my ship, it is where the game lost me last time, and I dont think it has improved at all - most of the mechanics and menus are too clunky - dificulty scaling feels awfull (SOLO), on the first tutorial island it is OK, but the moment you venture out, even lvl 2 enemies become bullet sponges that can 2-3 shot you,... - ship controlls are unbereably awfull, immagine you want to turn your ship right 45°, in any normal game you would just press and hold "D" for seome time and then release it, done... but in this game it is a slider, so the moment you click "D", the ship will start moving right infinitly forever untill you balance the scale to the middle.... it is this way for everything, speed, altitude, pitch, turning, its awfull - there are other problems like missing map, that I guess get resolved as you progress further, but I have no patience for that, and the fact that such basic features require HOURS of playing is bafling on its own
I want to love this game, I DO LOVE THIS GAME... but I can't with the bugs anymore. I've lost my ship, had storages just wipe out, glitches. Worlds adrift was one of my favorite games, and I was so excited when this game was announced. Sadly it feels rushed and 1.0 was released way to early. I really hope they don't give up on this game, it is so unique and fun. I bought the game on release, and been watching updates. came back recently, but still so many bugs with the ships. It has come a long way and I really want them to make a smooth game. Once that happens i'll give a 10/10 for this game, but current state makes it unplayable.
At the moment, the game feels much closer to a pre-alpha than a true Early Access title. There are still many issues that need to be addressed. Performance is one of the biggest problems. After playing for a while, the game starts to stutter, and almost every interaction with a chest or weapon swap causes a 1–2 second freeze. Character movement also needs work. The character often slides around for no apparent reason, making movement feel floaty, unresponsive, and difficult to control. Because of this constant sliding, even something as simple as climbing onto a ship station to build becomes unnecessarily difficult and extremely irritating. The lack of precise movement makes construction far more frustrating than it should be. Another frustrating issue is resource recovery. Whenever I dismantle something on my ship, all the materials immediately drop onto the ground. They frequently fall off the island altogether, forcing me to run around chasing resources that should have been returned directly to my inventory. Instead of being convenient, every deconstruction turns into an unnecessary scavenger hunt. Chests should also be linked to crafting stations. Having to constantly move materials between storage and crafting benches is unnecessarily tedious and adds busywork rather than meaningful gameplay. Nearby resources stored in chests should be available automatically when crafting. Turrets are another major issue. They often hit me from angles that seem impossible. I've also noticed that the turret projectile itself appears to be mostly cosmetic. The turret only hits you if its laser has locked onto you. A projectile can visually pass right through your character without dealing damage if the laser hasn't locked onto you, while the opposite can happen as well. Finally, upgrading the glider turns it into a nightmare to use. Instead of feeling like an upgrade, it becomes extremely difficult to control and often feels completely out of control. Overall, the game has potential, but in its current state it feels much earlier in development than an Early Access release. It needs significant optimization, movement improvements, quality-of-life features, and polish across several core gameplay systems before it feels ready for a wider audience.
Fool me once, shame on you Fool me twice?......shame......on.......me.
Crashes every-so-often. Cannot go over 90fps, and often drops below 60 when a SINGLE enemy spawns. Horrible physics, unrealistic ship building dynamics and god-awful ship handling. Not to mention, I have spent over 2 hours farming for materials to be ready for a big move to the next island cluster and upgrading my ship, when the game crashed while I was moving my chests and decided to just delete all of them with items inside of them. Generally good idea on the game type and feel, but extremely bad execution, QA and other testing. 2/10
it was a bit rough at the start like the storage eating your items, (i didnt even notice for like 40 hours! haha). but its improved so much and its such nice and calming and fun experience, with enjoyable combat. its still a bit janky yes but the worst thing is a rare chance the a puzzle might bug out, but honestly its so easy to look past it. :D (some of the community island creators are evil i swear, ye have been warned lol) BIDEO GAMES!!!!
I come from worlds adrift, i got enough of it and some more. there is no join or die. or finding parts that someone dropped off their boat. there is a lot i miss about worlds adrift, and this helps me feel better about it. Thank you Bossa. I for one forgive you. just please dont give up on this one too
