Little Laps is so close to being a perfect capsule racing game. The core physics are simple - given your car's speed and the curvature of the track, it will oversteer. If it is oversteering beyond a certain threshold while you have the throttle pressed, you'll crash. Lap after lap, you'll build momentum and shave milliseconds off of your best time. It's flow-y, rhythmic, and a lot of fun! However, two issues hold it back: 1) Since you cannot crash if the throttle is not pressed, the physics of hairpins are very unintuitive. You can keep the throttle pinned up until the hairpin turn begins, and then "bounce" through it at higher speeds than you can maintain through long sweeping corners. This issue can be forgiven, it's quite fun once you get it! 2) The much larger issue is what an absolute flow-killer crashing is. It takes a button press + 10-15 seconds to build your momentum again. It's simply is too harsh of a punishment for fractional mistakes, and makes the player spend more time getting back up to speed than actually going for fast laps. I think there are solutions here, possibly starting with a bit of speed when resetting so that the player isn't building back from 0 each time?
Works on Steam Deck. Fun and simplistic. Changes I would like:

There are leaderboards, but the addition of multiplayer with a 1v1 like the It Takes Two slot cars minigame would be amazing. I don't see this happening, but I had a lot of fun with that minigame, and that's why I got this game.
Addition of a Steam friends leaderboard
Addition of rebind settings. It's a mostly one button game but maybe I would prefer to use a different button. That said, you could rebind it yourself with software or Steam Input.
Switched over to PC and then ran into these issues: no menu navigation with arrow keys and changing resolution was needlessly difficult. Had to click it over and over to get it to change.
Overall the game feels arcadie and fun when you get take the turns physically defyingly fast. It is also fun to try and optimize the best lap time and see what can be done to eek out a slightly better time. Critiques (in no particular order) - Currently lap timer is started immediately should be started only when car is moving for the first time. No need to have time loss because I didn't hold down space bar while pressing R. - Road paint dashes should be evenly spaced. I understand this is because texturing a spline is difficult but it makes the game look unpolished for its core feature. - Ghosts are somewhat confusing because you don't know how many laps it took them to get to that speed. - Levels should have bronze, silver, gold, dev times to beat in addition to the leader board. I see that this is in the achievements with "Level-Name 1/2/3" formatted goals, but those goals should be surfaced in the level and there should be a ghost for each of these time goals. Each track in the level select needs to have a medal showing if you have beaten the medal time or not. Furthermore when pausing in a level, all of the level details should take up the left side of the screen and the buttons should be on the right. - Should splash when falling into water, should strike physics objects when crashing off track. Slamming objects off track could make for funny achievements and teach the player how far they can push the limits of the car. - The game could also do with more flavorful cosmetic intractables such as puddles to kick water up, small birds to fly away, or pieces of trash to blow away in your wake. Although I don't if this would clash with the minimalism or not. - It is unclear how much speed you can push on a corner. At first I thought it was any time the car is drifting, but it seems like it more about the car's forward angle. This should be explicitly show in the game and have some more of an indicator. - Going to the next race track should be a lot easier in the menu. - Clicking "Go to Title Screen" in the pause menu takes you back to level select and not to the "Title Screen" - Should be able to see the name of the current track either during gameplay or when in the pause menu. - Enabling and disabling world speedometer during gameplay bugs it out make it invisible. Reloading the track does fix the bug. - The leader board should be easier to navigate its hard to find the level that I am trying to improve on.
very very fun and addicting little game i bought it the instant i saw the trailer on reddit. the online leaderboards are awesome very much encourages speedrunning (cant wait for a summoning salt video about it lol) which is awesome I very highly recommend this game
Played the demo back when that dropped, and had a bunch of fun. Simple yet hard to master gameplay. Very fun
It's so good! The demo was great and this delivers on that same level.
macht Laune schnelles kurzes Spiel
reminds me of scalextric fun little game
Little Laps is beautifully simple, yet wonderfully challenging. The visual style is very pleasing and almost soothing. I bought the game for myself and my nephew so we could play at the same times. It's facilitated us being able to bond over crashing out frequently.
