Fantastic, difficult sokoban with lots of short level puzzles along with some larger late game puzzles.

Ligo is an exceptional puzzle adventure that demonstrates how creativity and thoughtful design can transform familiar mechanics into something genuinely memorable. Developed and published by Anthony Berleur, the game takes inspiration from classic Sokoban-style puzzle solving but expands the concept into a much larger experience built around exploration, discovery, and interconnected world design. Rather than presenting a series of isolated puzzle rooms, Ligo creates a living world filled with secrets, hidden paths, evolving mechanics, and challenges that constantly encourage players to think in new ways. The game's premise is simple yet effective. Players take control of a small blob-like creature exploring a mysterious world affected by an unknown curse. As they journey through interconnected regions, they encounter strange environments, unusual creatures, and increasingly complex puzzles that gradually reveal more about the world and its hidden mysteries. Storytelling remains subtle throughout the adventure, relying more on exploration and environmental discovery than direct exposition. This restrained approach allows curiosity to become a major driving force behind progression. One of the most impressive aspects of Ligo is its commitment to player freedom. Unlike many puzzle games that guide players through a fixed sequence of levels, Ligo embraces a nonlinear structure. Multiple paths are often available, and players are encouraged to explore different areas according to their own interests and abilities. This freedom creates a strong sense of adventure and prevents frustration when encountering particularly difficult puzzles. Instead of becoming stuck, players can often venture elsewhere, uncover new mechanics, and return later with fresh perspectives. At the center of the gameplay are the blob-like creatures themselves. Players manipulate, merge, separate, push, and interact with these creatures in ways that form the basis of countless puzzles. While the initial mechanics appear straightforward, the game continually expands upon them through new environmental rules and interactions. Every region introduces fresh concepts that alter how players approach problem-solving, ensuring that the experience remains engaging throughout its entire duration. Puzzle design is where Ligo truly shines. Every challenge feels handcrafted with care and purpose. Rather than relying on repetitive solutions, the game constantly introduces new twists that require players to rethink what they have learned. Many puzzles reward observation and logical deduction instead of trial and error, creating satisfying moments where complex solutions suddenly become clear. These moments of realization are among the most rewarding experiences the game offers and help establish a powerful sense of accomplishment. The sheer amount of content is equally impressive. With more than two hundred handcrafted puzzles spread throughout the world, Ligo consistently provides meaningful challenges without sacrificing quality. New mechanics are introduced at a steady pace, preventing the gameplay from becoming repetitive. Even after many hours, the game continues finding ways to surprise players with fresh ideas and inventive uses of previously established systems. Exploration plays an equally important role in the experience. The world is filled with hidden routes, optional areas, secret puzzles, and unexpected discoveries. Players who take the time to investigate every corner of the map are frequently rewarded with valuable insights, shortcuts, or entirely new challenges. This sense of discovery transforms the game into something more than a traditional puzzle experience. The world itself becomes a puzzle waiting to be understood. The interconnected structure of the environment deserves special recognition. Different regions feature unique rules and mechanics that influence how puzzles function. As players move between areas, they gradually develop a deeper understanding of how the world fits together. Previously inaccessible locations often become reachable after learning new mechanics elsewhere, creating a satisfying sense of progression that extends beyond simple puzzle completion. Visually, Ligo adopts a charming 2D art style that perfectly supports its gameplay. The environments are colorful and distinct, while the small creatures possess a simple but appealing design. More importantly, the visual presentation prioritizes clarity. Every puzzle element is easy to identify, ensuring that players can focus entirely on solving challenges rather than interpreting confusing visual information. The art style remains inviting throughout the adventure and contributes significantly to the game's approachable atmosphere. The atmosphere itself is surprisingly compelling. Although the narrative remains understated, the mysterious nature of the world creates a constant sense of intrigue. Players are encouraged to ask questions about the environments they encounter and the strange phenomena affecting them. This underlying mystery helps maintain momentum and gives additional meaning to exploration. The desire to uncover hidden truths becomes just as motivating as solving the next puzzle. Another major strength is the way progression feels inherently rewarding. Rather than relying on conventional rewards such as experience points or loot, Ligo rewards players with knowledge. Every solved puzzle teaches something new about the game's systems, while every discovery expands understanding of the world. This focus on intellectual satisfaction creates a particularly strong sense of engagement and helps distinguish the game from many other puzzle titles. The difficulty curve is demanding but fair. Some challenges require careful thought and patience, particularly during later sections where multiple mechanics interact simultaneously. However, the game's open-ended structure helps mitigate frustration by allowing players to pursue alternative paths when necessary. This flexibility ensures that progress rarely feels blocked by a single obstacle. Of course, Ligo's strengths may also limit its appeal for certain audiences. Players seeking fast-paced action, extensive character-driven storytelling, or highly cinematic experiences may find the emphasis on puzzle-solving too demanding. The game expects players to think carefully and experiment consistently, which can occasionally lead to prolonged periods of contemplation. For puzzle enthusiasts, however, this challenge is precisely what makes the experience so rewarding. What ultimately makes Ligo stand out is the confidence of its design. Every mechanic, puzzle, and environmental detail feels purposeful. The game trusts players to learn through observation, solve problems independently, and uncover secrets through exploration. This respect for player intelligence elevates the entire experience and helps create a lasting sense of satisfaction. Ligo is a remarkable puzzle adventure that combines nonlinear exploration, exceptional puzzle design, and a mysterious interconnected world into a cohesive and highly rewarding experience. Its abundance of handcrafted challenges, thoughtful progression systems, and constant sense of discovery make it one of the most impressive puzzle games in recent years. For players who enjoy intellectually engaging adventures that reward curiosity and persistence, Ligo delivers an experience that is both challenging and deeply memorable. Rating: 8/10
I was skeptical about sidescrolling Sokabon, but this game is bananas. I barely made it to the first antigrav mechanic and was still met with hours of some of the most challenging but rewarding puzzles in the genre. Anthony Berleur is one to look out for.

Great puzzles! Ligo is a clever twist on Sokoban-style puzzle games, and the difficulty is fairly high, and I like that. There's no story, and the graphics and sound are functional but not much more. Then again, the puzzles are great.
