I love this version of Sudoku! It's like a mix between Sudoku and Picross without the pictures. Some of the later stages are very very difficult but there are hints if you get stuck.
I downloaded it when I still wasnt that good at regular sudoku and it was way too hard. If you can not regularly beat new york times hard sudoku puzzles I'd recommend improving a bit before trying this game. I came back a couple months later after imroving and this was much more fun. The sandwitch part kind of reminds me of japaneses picross puzzles where you can use colors to mark spaces where there must not be a 1 or 9. I recommend this game to people who like sudoku and want an interesting spin on the game
Sandwich Sudoku, developed and published by Studio Goya, takes the familiar foundation of classic Sudoku and transforms it into a more layered and intellectually demanding experience. While it preserves the core rule set—filling a 9×9 grid so that each number appears only once per row, column, and subgrid—it introduces an additional constraint that fundamentally changes how players approach every puzzle. This twist is simple to understand but surprisingly deep in execution, making the game feel both accessible and challenging at the same time. The defining mechanic revolves around the “sandwich” clues placed outside each row and column. These numbers indicate the total value of the digits that lie between the 1 and the 9 within that line, forcing players to think not only about placement but also about numerical relationships. This added rule reshapes the logic of Sudoku into something more analytical, requiring players to consider combinations, spacing, and order in ways that go beyond traditional deduction. Instead of solving the grid piece by piece through elimination alone, players must constantly balance multiple layers of reasoning, which makes each completed puzzle feel especially satisfying. One of the most impressive aspects of the game is the quality of its puzzle design. Each challenge is handcrafted, resulting in puzzles that feel intentional and well-structured rather than randomly generated. The progression is carefully paced, beginning with relatively straightforward scenarios that introduce the sandwich concept before gradually increasing in complexity. As players advance, they encounter puzzles that demand more sophisticated strategies, encouraging them to refine their approach and think several steps ahead. This sense of progression is one of the game’s greatest strengths, as it creates a clear learning curve that rewards persistence and attention to detail. The hint system plays an important role in supporting this learning process. Rather than simply providing answers, it offers explanations that guide players toward understanding the logic behind a solution. This makes the game feel less like a test and more like a teaching tool, helping players develop the skills needed to tackle more difficult puzzles. For those unfamiliar with advanced Sudoku techniques, this feature can make the difference between frustration and enjoyment, allowing them to engage with the game at their own pace while still feeling a sense of accomplishment. In terms of presentation, Sandwich Sudoku adopts a clean and minimalistic interface that prioritizes clarity and usability. The controls are intuitive, making it easy to input numbers, annotate possibilities, and navigate the grid without distraction. While the visual design is not particularly flashy, it serves its purpose well by keeping the focus entirely on the puzzles themselves. The inclusion of customizable themes adds a small touch of personalization, but overall, the aesthetic remains functional and unobtrusive, which is appropriate for a logic-focused experience. The game offers a substantial amount of content, with a wide range of puzzles that vary in difficulty. This ensures that both newcomers and experienced players can find challenges suited to their skill level. However, as the difficulty increases, the puzzles can become quite demanding, sometimes requiring a level of patience and analytical thinking that may not appeal to everyone. For players who are not deeply invested in logic puzzles, this intensity can lead to moments of frustration, particularly when progress stalls and solutions are not immediately apparent. Another limitation lies in the game’s narrow focus. Outside of its central mechanic, there is little variation in gameplay. There are no additional modes, narrative elements, or alternative puzzle types to break up the experience, which can make extended play sessions feel repetitive for some players. The game is clearly designed with a specific audience in mind—those who enjoy methodical problem-solving—and it does not attempt to broaden its appeal beyond that niche. Despite this, Sandwich Sudoku succeeds by delivering exactly what it promises: a thoughtfully designed and intellectually rewarding puzzle experience. It builds upon a well-known formula and enhances it with a clever twist that adds depth without sacrificing clarity. For players who enjoy challenging their reasoning skills and working through complex problems, it offers a consistently engaging and satisfying experience. In the end, the game stands as a strong example of how a simple idea, when executed with care and precision, can create a deeply compelling experience. It may not offer variety or spectacle, but it excels in its focus, providing a steady stream of well-crafted puzzles that reward patience and insight. For fans of Sudoku and logic-based games, it is a worthwhile and highly enjoyable addition to the genre. Rating: 8/10
An interesting twist on Sudoku packaged in a functional, if not ideal, app built in Unity.
this game keeps me sane
My favorite version of Sudoku, the "sandwich aspect" is always fun to figure out.
Great learning game. Shouts to Cracking The Cryptic
Cracking the Cryptic is one of my favorite channels on youtube, and I love learning from them, even if my own skills fall far short of theirs!
I did not expected much buying the game, but its suprisingly good. Managed to add to Sudoku while still being coherent with the base design of the game, impressive!
This is amazing. It is like regular Sudoku, except you are eating Sandwitches, and Sandwitches are flying around eating at the peripheries of the Sudoku board. IN reality this is phenomonal. Which is good. I would give this a 9.7 out of 10. Easily. However this game leaves me feeling hungery. I Think that this game is good. We should have more games like this. This game is inspiring. The only reason more people don't play it. Is for the same reason that war and justien bieber exist. And that is because well over 80% of all people are stupid. However i am not stupid, is why i playied this game in the first play. I think it is an exellent example of Sudoku. Altough. I have objectively knocked off 0.3 points regressing it from a 10 out of 10 initially to a mere 9.7 out of ten (by 2005-6 IGN standards), as a professional game reviewer, would i have to say that this game bears no daunting and or startleing sound design choices, no blood no gore no nudity. Which is fine. Just fine. However multi language support? Sudoku comes from Japan, initially so it would only make perfect sense to give a Japanese translation, to Pay homeage' (or whatever) to what ever Japaense person who first made invented Sudoku in the first place. Sudoku should be in every language. Humanlly possible. Or else. What i noticed about the music... Is that there is no music. Becuase this is a hardcore Sudoku game. F$%@' the audio. It is the end of the world (technically), nobody even knows what audio is or uses it anymore. Instead all they do is yap! This game has good gameplay, and good graphics. I am deeply saddened by the lack of Sandwitch themes, or actual HD Sandwitches flying around, and narroriating everymove. Or i am suprised that there are not more Sandwitches or any. What you are basically saying is that a 0 or a 1 and a 9 SMASHED! to gether. Like a homodepote uj2340 3i50jslka;l f it is a good game. I can't take it anymore, The Sandwitches are nolonger flyign around for anymore, all i wanted was a real, life like Sudoku based yet actually edibale looking, or an Objective Sandwitch, or instead of numerical digits 1-9, instead have the 9 top most best (of my) favoriate Sandwithes of all time in the world. I am psychic and know how to create the best Sandwitch in history, but i am saving that story for my review, of Final Fantasy. What is funny is that this game is (objectively) better than most Final Fantasy games, and has better writing than Fallout 4 (no offense). Nobody has ever told me about this version of Sudoku, which means i have no life and or Real freinds'. INstead i am alone in the world with my Sandwitches. I can[t afford healthcare. Or actual food (Sandwithces, that i dream of), and am wasting away, however i can now finally enjoy Sandwich Sudoku, without selfcompromising myself (unlike other games and or franchizes). This game has made me alittle bit smarter which is impossible, not becuase of how stupid i am but becaues of unbearably smart i am really i am in rl. They should starty telling people about this game. Or else we run the risk of intellectual isolation, except the Sudoku verision (of intellectual isolationism). This the only game that takes an actual Sandwitch, strips it down, and slams it right into a freaking Sudoku game, i am suprised that people are not running around screaming about this game in public, Instead i sit here, in object poverty, dying, with NO AUDIO. Even though i would just turn the audio off. This has made me question my feelings.
