Light The Lamp Hockey

great game full of nostalgia! a wonderful mix of beer league hockey meets arcade gaming. controls are fairly easy to understand and menu is very legible. it is by no means easy to win a game , but its fun the whole time regardless.

I press button. I win game. 10/10 would press button again.

YAAAAHHHH! It's a Hockey game! Good game. One problem. Just lately Mcafee quarantine's it when I fire it up. If this can be fixed, awesome game.

The game this is based on is Blades of Steel. A hockey game for NES and the classic Arcades. The developers did a great job with the look and sound of the game. However, the game is uncontrollable. I fully understand most games have a learning curve and losing is part of becoming a better player for most games. The games controls are unbelievable level of bad. Any non-hockey person can pick up a controller and play Blades of Steel on any known system and still have the feeling of control. You might not be good at the classic Blades game, but at least you could have a solid control of the game. You could tell passes were connecting and the player would respond. Thus the AI would then beat you but you could tell, "I had a chance." Light the Lamp does not give a player the chance to enjoy the game. Every time I selected a player you asked "why is this happening." I can understand the game makes players "unskilled" and you need to earn skill. This should mean maybe passes are bad or shots are bad. EVERY player is a complete hell to control. NES Blades of Steel had awesome control and passing but the AI would beat you with checks and shots. Which forced you to play better but you always had perfect control of your players. So when you lost, it was your fault. Not the game. Here the game provides no chance of enjoying the game because you can't control your team. I played two standard games then 3 league games. I thought, ok maybe my team is ranked so bad I need to play more. The controls stay bad and there's no "carrot" to keep you playing. I'm not given any hope to "maybe my team can get better." You can make checks and shoot. You can run down the ice and shoot. The second the other team get the puck, you fight the system tooth and nail and just maybe you might one of your players to respond to defend your goal. I've never been so frustrated with a game, I wanted so badly to love this game and it gave me no chance to do that. Go buy Tape to Tape and learn how a fun hockey game is built.
