About the only complaint I would have ever had about this game was the load time, and that's quite behind me now that I have an ssd, the start time feels basically normal now. As far as the positives are concerned, I find any typical shooter weapon converted to its arcane counterpart to be a refreshing change of pace, and the customizability of each variant of spell attack makes even five different choices of ammo for one weapon feel limited and ironically primitive, then you get actual defensive magic on top of it rather than shield triggers or having to rely on cover positions. And while the story and dialog may be no Fallout New Vegas, it's certainly more in depth and intriguing than most other first-person shooters.
good review to support devs, but seems pretty mid so far. 1 hr in. uninstailling. life's too short to spend it on mediocre or boring experiences.
Lichdom: Battlemage, developed and published by Xaviant Games, is an ambitious action RPG that places players in the role of a powerful mage navigating a war-torn world filled with magic, monsters, and dark intrigue. The game’s central premise revolves around harnessing elemental magic to battle hordes of enemies and uncover the secrets of a collapsing realm. Unlike many traditional RPGs that rely heavily on melee combat or weapon-based fighting, Lichdom shifts the focus entirely to spellcasting, offering a unique gameplay experience where mastering a diverse arsenal of magical abilities is key to survival and progression. One of the defining features of Lichdom: Battlemage is its deep and customizable spell system. Players can craft and upgrade a wide variety of spells, combining different elemental effects like fire, ice, lightning, and acid to tailor attacks to their playstyle. This flexibility encourages experimentation, as different enemy types and combat scenarios often require adjusting spell loadouts and strategies. The spellcrafting mechanic adds a layer of strategic depth, making combat engaging and dynamic rather than repetitive. Moreover, the game’s progression system rewards players who invest time in optimizing their magical arsenal, allowing for the creation of devastating combos and visually impressive effects that enhance the sense of power. Visually, Lichdom presents a mixed but generally satisfying package. The environments range from desolate wastelands to dark fortresses, with detailed textures and atmospheric lighting that effectively convey the game’s dark fantasy setting. Spell effects are a particular highlight, boasting vibrant colors and impressive particle animations that bring combat sequences to life. While the game may not boast the highest level of graphical fidelity compared to other modern titles, its art style and effects help maintain immersion and excitement during battles. However, some players have noted occasional technical shortcomings, such as inconsistent frame rates or occasional graphical glitches, which can momentarily pull players out of the experience. The narrative in Lichdom: Battlemage offers a classic dark fantasy tale of survival, power, and betrayal. While the story itself is somewhat conventional, focusing on a lone mage’s journey to save the world from an encroaching darkness, it is bolstered by engaging lore and world-building. The characters, though not heavily developed, serve their roles well in supporting the main plot and providing motivation for the protagonist’s quest. The writing is competent and occasionally offers moments of intrigue, but the game primarily shines through its gameplay rather than its storytelling. Combat is where Lichdom truly aims to set itself apart, emphasizing fast-paced, spell-centric battles against a variety of enemy types. The game encourages players to remain mobile, dodging attacks while unleashing a barrage of elemental spells. The challenge escalates steadily, requiring players to balance offense and defense carefully. Boss fights in particular demand mastery of the spell system and tactical thinking, offering satisfying tests of skill. However, some criticisms have been leveled at the game’s AI, which can sometimes behave predictably or become repetitive, slightly diminishing the intensity of encounters over time. One area where Lichdom: Battlemage has faced mixed feedback is in its overall pacing and mission design. Some players find that the early stages can feel slow or grind-heavy, with quests that lack variety or meaningful objectives. This can affect engagement, especially for those seeking a more narrative-driven experience. Nevertheless, the core gameplay loop of combat and spell experimentation generally keeps players invested once they settle into the mechanics. Additionally, the game offers a respectable amount of content, including side quests and exploration elements, which provide additional layers for completionists and those eager to dive deeper into the world. In summary, Lichdom: Battlemage delivers a refreshing take on the action RPG genre by focusing exclusively on magic and spellcasting as the means of combat. Its rich customization system and visually striking spell effects offer an enjoyable and engaging experience for players who appreciate tactical depth and fast-paced battles. While the narrative and mission design may not break new ground, and some technical rough edges persist, the game’s core strengths lie in its inventive gameplay mechanics and immersive combat. For fans of magic-heavy RPGs seeking a unique challenge, Lichdom: Battlemage presents a compelling, if imperfect, adventure into a dark and mystical world. Rating: 5/10
Coinvolge stile vecchia scuola !!
Klassiker!
Really, I hate games that will not allow me to remap controls. I am left handed and I do not think I should be forced to play right handed. We have AI but key rebinding to complicated to put in a game? Who knows what type of game this is. My character stands there and I cannot remap the controls.
