长达十小时的岛根旅游宣传片，这游戏的场景CG（包括物品和美食特写）精致到了一种匪夷所思的地步，玩到最后跳出来一个“我们在岛根等你光临”绷不住了。平心而论我对这游戏的美术及其满意，包括每章的信纸有特殊设计这点也很喜欢，但是剧情这块，只能说集日本青春疼痛＋校园悬疑＋民俗鬼怪元素之大乱炖，看多了日本ACG作品的人会非常熟悉那股味儿，槽点也一模一样地继承来了，打完之后和朋友吐槽，一同高呼霓虹金确实就是这样细微之处暗藏变态（……

[h3]Most Visual Novels are cringe and boring. Root Letter is neither.[/h3] Once you're well past drinking age all of these weird, whippersnapper, jailbait [i]Visual Novels[/i] start to feel contrived. There's only so many times you can try to convince me that a harem of 15 year old girls somewhere in Japan want to date a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ loser before it all feels like bs. Give me some realism. Have the Rothschilds pay off all the women so that they reject me just like in real life. None of this statutory nonsense the genre is littered with. Root Letter is a breath of fresh air in the landfill of garbage that is most Visual Novels. At the $2 discount, there's no reason you shouldn't get this if you're an enjoyer of reading text and despise gameplay. [h2]Writing / Plot[/h2] Not that it didn't have it's lame moments but unlike most books and VNs, I wanted to [i]know what happens next[/i] which is hallmark of great writing. Most VNs or books bore me within the first few minutes but Root Letter somehow had me hooked from the start which is very rare. While the plot was giga-cringe, trying to find a female penpal from ten years ago (for "no reason at all", allegedly), that didn't stop me from enjoying this absolute classic. [h2]Characters[/h2] I can count on one hand the amount of novels I've read whose characters I distinctly remember, even more so for Visual Novels. Most of the time, characters are in the story simply to assist the main character or to move the plot forward. In Root Letter, they felt like real people with actual lives you were intruding on. In this VN it feels like the men are better written than the women which is extremely rare in most VNs. Most men are just placeholders or the butt of some joke but here they are just as important as the women if not more so. [h3]Gameplay[/h3] lmao [h3]Conclusion[/h3] Reading text and looking down on gameplay-tards is a bougieman's hobby. All Visual Novels are expensive as ♥♥♥♥ for what they provide but for this particular VN I was able to get it at a steal for only $2 which was well worth it.

great as a narrative FMV (a near one), story rich itself and also the voice actings are great, if you love reading novels or ace attorney type of games, just love it.
