I've had this game since day one of early access. While it was sort of fun at first, it has become a tedious slog. This game is unnecessarily difficult in every aspect. Enemies are overpowered, upgrades are either slight or have a bigger negative than positive, and if you die, which you will pretty much EVERY SINGLE RUN, it destroys the one and only (why just ONE????) passive buff (relic or rune or something) you're allowed to equip and then you have to use the limited resources you have to rebuild it. It really makes that addictive "just one more run" aspect that these games should have into a disappointing "just uninstall and play something else". I was hoping the 1.0 would have evened out the difficulty or added some new upgrades or abilities to compensate, but I don't see any new content here. At least not where it matters. I can only recommend to those that enjoy games that are needlessly hard, are excited by the prospect of dying far more times than succeeding, and are content with doing the same few runs over and over and over again. I wish I liked this game but I can't play it anymore. It's just too infuriating.
All guns eventually feel the same. There are no real builds, and talents don't make any difference. Weapon upgrades actually make them worse. The final boss is the easiest part of the game. The drone and its talents are completely useless.
The game is very similar to 20 Seconds Till Dawn. The pixel graphics are nice. The combat feels snappy and responsive. I also liked the sound effects and music. The boss designs are fun. The story and dialogues are okay. I like the option to enable autoaim and autofire. However, I have a bunch of problems with the core systems of the game: - Weapons: All weapons feel virtually the same. You have only 1 gun at a time. There are no evolutions. The weapons differ in terms of damage, range, fire rate, number of projectiles... But all those things are modified during the run. And this is the only thing that the upgrades do. Every weapon has the same weapon upgrades during the run. Once you get a few gun upgrades during a run, every single weapon behaves in the same way. There is no build variety. Not all weapons have to be firearms. And each weapon needs to have some unique upgrades. For example, the crossbow could have a perk with toxin bolts, coated in poison, which apply a damaging debuff on the enemies. The final upgrade could make the poison proliferate to nearby monsters. - Drone: It's just... there. It does some damage, its ultimate is nice for clearing piles of monsters. But it might as well not exist and just buff the weapon damage a bit. However, since the decision was made to create the drone and treat is as another axis of meta progression, it has to be more interesting. There aren't even different drone types. There's only one that shoots. And the perks are just as boring as weapon upgrades. There could be a drone which shoots rockets, exploding on hit, or dropping mines, or attracting loot, or creating a lightning chain around you, damaging enemies when you walk past them. There are so many options, and we are stuck with a drone which only goes "pew pew". What's the point of introducing the drone mechanic at all? - Perks: The upgrades you choose during the run are not very exciting, but sometimes they don't really make sense. For example, the decoy. Its second upgrade increases the duration, the third one makes it explode. Why would I want to increase its duration if its supposed to explode monsters? This is one example of many issues like this. I think the game would need to introduce different upgrade paths for those perks. For the decoy, one path would be to constantly dish out the exploding decoys, and the second one could for example taunt monsters in a bigger area for a longer time and debuff them. - Monster design: Each biome has uniquely looking monsters, but functionally, they are all the same... In every biome, there is always a mob type who explodes, who shoots bubbles, who shoots 2 ghosts, who charges... The monsters in different biomes should at least behaves slightly different. For example, the charging monsters should have different running patterns. But because you do the same thing on every map (activating the beacons) and the monsters work in the same way, it gets repetitive very fast. In games like Rogue: Genesia you at least choose your encounters and the objectives are different. In summary, the base of the game is solid, but it lacks more options and fun choices. There could be so many interesting things to play around with. However, the weapon system is very bland (and unfinished - only the base gun has "add-ons"), the perks are boring, the drone might as well not exist, the fights get repetitive very quickly. EDIT: I was hoping that 1.0 would address the gripes I had, but unfortunately the patch looks lackluster. Might revisit the game in the future
I would like to like recommend this game, but I can't. I came back to see if my feelings had changed on 1.0 with some time, but it's still clearly the same, The game is survivors-like. It is mechanically very similar to 20 Minutes til Dawn; that's a good thing. The look is fine and the meta progression is fine. The problem is combat flow. The short version is that the player has to kite most of the time. *** In a normal SL game the player moves at a constant rate (with or without the ability to dash) and the enemies each have their own constant rate. The player can then make choices ahead of time to move into the gaps between enemies. In a game like this or 20 minutes, the player can't tank any of the damage; they can only make the move if they are sure it will work. The problem is that in this game, the enemies lunge at the player. This means that the gaps close instantly. The player needs huge space to get between the enemies. With no damage to tank the player is forced to kite. There's some skill in finding the most massive gap to run away, but the player is largely a passenger until they become so powerful they kill everybody. Even if there are interesting things to pick up on the map, the player can't get them unless they happen to get pushed into those things. The player can not enforce their will enough to do much for most of the run. So much of the goodness of the game gets lost in this problem. It's not about hard. It's not much harder, it's that so many other choices are taken away.
Отличный рогалик. Дело в том, что он не сильно выделяется из массы игр этого жанра, но при учёте того, что ничего критически плохого в нём нет - ставлю "Да" этой игре
Just saw the tiny pricetag, thought "Why not?" and whoops... over 2 hours gone. Wasn't planning to play that far since I wanted to play something else, but this game instantly got me hooked. Super fun game, highly recommended, especially for that pricetag!
good game
Garbage game with atrocious balance and no real choices. And despite only two hours of play steam refused my refund because I waited two weeks to make it. Apparently they and the devs would rather scam money and than do business honorably. This is why we need demos. The refund system is not sufficient. Really disgusting behavior baked in. Gamers are the most abuse tolerant demographic in marketing history. Temporarily embarrassed millionaires. Guess all I can do now is hope it gets better someday, but it won't. I wasn't gonna leave a review. But devs need to stand up to this ♥♥♥♥ too. Steam allows for DLC donation only model after all. No one has the balls for that i guess. Edit: Oh yea and they round up to hit the 2 hours sooner. Look at my review here: "0.2 hrs last two weeks / 1.7 hrs on record." But my refund request says 2. Gotta clutch those pennies. I would literally give my copy away at this point if I could. I hate this country and the church of IPL so much.

Very entertaining and challenging twin stick/auto shooter (you can play it as either!). Nice upgrade trees and trinkets for Letifer and I like the drone partners upgrade paths as well.
