Amazing presentation, questionable execution. To begin with the positives, the art-style of Leila is gorgeous! The pop-up book aesthetic—alongside beautiful illustrations and animation—perfectly encapsulate the game’s reflective, yet intently introspective tone. The backgrounds are fantastic too! There’s unmistakeable detail within them (something I adore for some reason.) Through this, the interactivity is seamless and easy to engage with. I could sense the love poured into this... work of art, within every CG. It bleeds with uniqueness; a style I’ll reminisce on randomly in a few months and go “that was a great game, wasn’t it?” Moving on, the puzzles have simplicity to them, as they are embedded fluidly into the (aforementioned) backgrounds. They link with the narrative, each presenting a puzzle that serves a different purpose. The cafe level for example: brainstorming ideas; finding inspiration is gamified—lacking any clear-cut start/end point for “this is a puzzle” or “this is where the puzzle ends.” Inviting puzzles and narrative to intertwine makes for such a more immersive experience. Adding onto that, they’re defined by fairly simple premises. Convenient shapes, convenient placements—angles and all that. I never felt like I was being shoved into a certain mindset; thinking and experiencing simultaneously. This fuelled my motivation, as my retention was maintained, making tediousness practically non-existent. It’s an exemplar balance!... I just wanted to say that. EXEMPLAR! Puzzle & narrative can and do belong together, as Leila bridges the gap between its gameplay and its message without speaking a word of it. Furthermore, the narrative is—initially—well presented. Subtext lingers beneath scenes; reactions that raise questions of our protagonist’s true nature. It gradually strings us along as we slowly, fittingly, “piece the puzzle together.” Not only that, but dark topics were approached with care and humanity. Despite my later critiques, the intent here cleanses me of any disdain. For most of the game, excitement drove me to delve deeper. The refusal to sugarcoat reality, framed egocentrically through Leila’s single perspective, is a bold decision; one I connect with and really respect. On a quick note, the soundtrack absolutely slaps. I can never fault a well-produced, fitting soundtrack! Flaws aside, the music is something I’ll always remember it by. Huge appreciation for the composers here—thank you for these beautifully surreal songs. Unfortunately, my positives soon grow thin. While Leila is 90% lovely, there is a single discovery; one that descends this title into a more unnerving, uncomfortable bracket. Spoilers ahead: Leila’s infidelity is not irredeemable, which is a good foundation. The humanity of her guilt is shown through her reactions, the impactful dialogue surrounding her regrettable past. Still, there seems to lack distinct remorse for the *impact* of her actions. Leila represses it; she feels shame admitting it... but what about the weight? The impact? Her daughter, her husband, are hardly mentioned—or seen—in this regard. There is no empathy from her; no begrudging acceptance or silent apology. I understand the realism, that people don’t magically make up once their wrongdoings are laid bare, though I can’t help but feel off by it. Personally, based on the presentation, it felt like: Leila admits to her wrongdoings. She (understandably) loathes herself for it. She finds joy in the little things, improving herself. She then frolics off to live a happy, unburdened life. I’m simplifying here, but where is it? Accountability, hello? Without emphasising impact, an (unintended) message is spread; that people can simply move on without ever considering the feelings of those they hurt, and those they are ultimately responsible for. The people that matter can simply be fixed by cooking, reading a book, and doing things for yourself. It comes across... selfish, to me. The intent was never to root for Leila, and I get that. It’s a case study, an expression of how confusing we can become when faced with something we deeply regret. Still, that doesn’t excuse the subtext. It begs the question: should someone who completely disregarded her family be allowed to just slip back into a happy, uncomplicated relationship with her daughter? Life is messy—and by God, does Leila prove that—but that resolution feels unearned to me. Being honest with the ratings here! For now, for that message, recommending this game would be... stupid. It leaves me so conflicted that I feel like giving it two separate ratings. Solid 8/10 for the gameplay, the art, and the empathy built into the narrative. Buuut... 3/10 for that muddled message at the end.

Leila takes simple, quiet moments of human life and turns them into something uniquely interactive. The narrative is so grounded and relatable that it constantly makes you reflect on your own life journey. Couple that with gorgeous handcrafted art, clever puzzle mechanics, and brilliant voice acting, and you get a game that feels like reading a diary you weren't supposed to find. Beautifully written, wonderfully executed, and undeniably heartfelt.
This game is so true, I’m about to cry.
Every time I'm convinced that a game from a small indie studio, made with love, turns out to be much better than cash-grab AAA titles.
The story.
Our protagonist, Leila, receives a futuristic console from her daughter. It links directly to her consciousness, turning her memories into an interactive game. As she explores the vast landscapes of her own mind, she talks to us, opening up about every chapter of her life. We get to see the struggles she faced both as a child and an adult, and how those moments shaped her.
Gameplay.
I’m honestly blown away by the attention to detail here. You can interact with almost everything, and a lot of items are needed to unlock the achievements. Moving from one location/memory to another, you solve puzzles, dive into deeply psychological struggles that many will find very relatable, and just enjoy the atmosphere.
Visuals.
And speaking of atmosphere, the art style is absolutely breathtaking. It was pure eye candy from start to finish. The seamless blend of 2D and 3D elements, the ultra-detailed environments, and that soundtrack!! The mix of chill, mellow tracks and tense melodies perfectly captures the atmosphere.
Final verdict.
I was fighting back tears the entire time. It breaks my heart to realize how many people actually go through these exact same problems. Huge props to the developers for wrapping such heavy themes in such a beautiful, elegant package. Do yourself a favor, spend a few bucks, and buy this game. You won’t regret it.

Was dissapointed by this one, seeing all the praise. Art is nice, and starts of all right but the puzzles quickly become mediocre : connecting some wires, the well know stack rings puzzle, ... Then we are cleaning up a house.... There are some interesting life insights, but the story doesn't really feel all that deep and the ending is really a letdown.
