LEGRAND LEGACY: Tale of the Fatebounds — это проект, созданный с любовью к жанру.
What places me off here are the boss fights. One really has to grind hard to advance. The rest is great. Long and interesting story(I watched it on stream), not bad graphic, but sadly that doesn't matter. It wasn't working on Linux at the beginning, but with newer Proton version it works fine.
Si.
Clunky interface Poor writing Everything feels like quicktime events

Pretty sure my negative review from years ago was deleted. Still giving it a thumbs down.
Infuriating at times. Also, why a game like this has no full mouse support? ★★✰✰✰
Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds, developed and published by SEMISOFT, is an ambitious indie role-playing game that openly draws inspiration from the golden era of late 1990s and early 2000s Japanese RPGs. Positioned as a modern homage to classics of that generation, it combines pre-rendered 2D backgrounds with 3D character models, traditional turn-based combat, and a sweeping narrative centered on prophecy, war, and destiny. Rather than reinventing the genre, it seeks to faithfully recreate the structure and tone of the JRPGs that defined a generation. The story unfolds in the world of Legrand, a land fractured by political tensions, ancient secrets, and supernatural forces. Players begin as Finn, a former slave forced into gladiatorial combat, whose life changes dramatically when he is drawn into a larger conflict involving the so-called “Fatebounds.” As the narrative progresses, the scope expands from personal survival to world-altering stakes, with multiple factions vying for power and hidden forces manipulating events behind the scenes. The storyline embraces familiar genre tropes—destined heroes, mysterious relics, and looming calamities—but builds a layered political backdrop that adds texture to its world-building. Visually, the game’s aesthetic pays direct tribute to the PlayStation-era RPG formula. Hand-crafted pre-rendered environments create detailed towns, castles, and wilderness areas, while fully modeled characters animate across these static backdrops. This design choice evokes nostalgia while maintaining a distinct identity. Cinematic cutscenes and animated sequences punctuate key story moments, lending weight to dramatic developments. The orchestral soundtrack further enhances the atmosphere, supporting exploration, battle, and emotional story beats with sweeping compositions that align with the epic tone. Combat adheres to a classic turn-based structure but incorporates interactive timing mechanics to increase engagement. During battles, players can influence damage output or defensive strength by executing well-timed button presses, adding a subtle layer of skill to otherwise menu-driven encounters. Elemental affinities and weapon effectiveness play an important role, encouraging strategic planning rather than simple attack repetition. Over time, party composition and skill customization become essential, especially during more challenging boss encounters. In addition to core combat and story progression, Legrand Legacy includes a range of side activities and diversions. Mini-games such as fishing, tactical war segments, and optional quests break up the main narrative loop. The tactical warfare sections, in particular, introduce grid-based strategic encounters that contrast with the traditional turn-based battles, adding variety to the overall pacing. Crafting systems and equipment upgrades further deepen character progression, rewarding exploration and thorough quest completion. However, the game’s devotion to classic design occasionally results in pacing challenges. Dialogue sequences can be lengthy, and narrative exposition sometimes slows momentum. Random encounters, while faithful to genre tradition, may feel repetitive during extended play sessions. Additionally, balance inconsistencies can lead to difficulty spikes, particularly in later chapters or arena-style battles. These elements reflect both the strengths and limitations of adhering closely to retro JRPG conventions. Despite its imperfections, Legrand Legacy stands out for its sheer ambition. With dozens of hours of content, expansive world regions, and a fully realized narrative arc, it delivers a substantial experience rarely seen from indie studios of similar scale. Its commitment to traditional structure may not appeal to players seeking modern streamlined RPG systems, but for those who appreciate deliberate pacing, world-building depth, and classic turn-based mechanics, it offers a nostalgic yet sincere adventure. Ultimately, Legrand Legacy: Tale of the Fatebounds is a heartfelt tribute to an era of RPG storytelling defined by sweeping narratives and methodical combat systems. While technical roughness and uneven pacing prevent it from achieving the polish of larger studio productions, its scope, visual style, and dedication to genre traditions make it a noteworthy entry for fans of classic Japanese role-playing games seeking a modern indie interpretation of that beloved formula.
