I randomly saw this in newly released and purchased it on an impulse. Interesting world and decent story so far, but a but random. In the beginning of the game the MC and a bunch of knights are fight demons with swords and lances, but then a dead medic's backpack has a Glock pistol in it which one of the MC's party members pick up and used to kill several demons. This is a VN RPG/Adventure game, there's no voice acting and the art is just 3D character models without a variety of facial expressions, which works decently well. For now a recommend because it's funny and enjoyable thus far. Follow my curator page for more reviews!
This game looks pretty cute and unassuming, and starts similarily standard with isekai theme (transported to another world). The only spin you can immediately identify is that the story is observed by one of the inhabitants of the fantasy world, and not those transported to it. After that though... It basically becomes a massive thought experiment/lecture on the topic of the simulation hypothesis – the idea that the reality we live in is a simulation created by some highly-advanced intelligence. The semi-comedic storyline is intertwined with surprisingly in-depth physics talk, both about the video game world the main characters are inhabiting/thrown into and our own universe. There's even a separate menu where you can access extra discussions between the characters explaining basics of modern theories of physics, relations and conflicts between them etc, all in a very approachable manner. Whether you find that kind of stuff interesting is the main factor whether you're going to enjoy this game – the story and characters, while providing some interesting and emotional moments, are mostly a pretext for the said thought experiment which, if you're not closely familiar with the simulation hypothesis, might seriously challenge the way you think about the world around you. Other than that, I have to say I didn't love the 3D graphics – the sprites are very basic and environments only slightly better. Music is pretty solid, but nothing particularly memorable. What sold this game to me is definitely the writing, which is both pretty funny and genuinely interesting with how it plays with scientific concepts. This makes Legend of Everything a very unique and, in my perspective, compelling experience. If you want a VN that offers a change of pace from the usual romance scenarios and dead-serious heroic adventures, with a bonus of learning some genuinely interesting stuff, give this one a chance. ------------- PS If you're interested in quality visual novels, check out my curator page.
Pre-Completion Thoughts: Please understand I have not completed the game yet. Currently though I am liking this game. The Graphics are different than most VN's and there are currently not that many choices to be made outside of towns but that is ok for this VN. The story is different and unique and is a Iseaki style concept but seen through the eyes of a person living in the alternate world which is refreshing. I will of course give a much more focused review when I have completed the game.
Attention: - this review may contain spoilers, if you don´t mind go ahead. - early review Summary: A all-age vn made in renpy with isekai content about a lot of stuff. About: - Gameplay/ story: the plot is quite kinetic, with couples choices to do, but seems won't affect the story. Here you will play as Braine, a side character in a parallel rpg world where the MC Electra was teleported. As the title suggests, the story includes a lot of stuff, like physics, some paradoxes, isekai, etc... - VA: not present. - Artwork: average - Text/translation: no problem so far Conclusion: "Legend of Everything" is an all-age vn made in renpy with isekai content about everything; the plot is quite unique, but as a fan of isekai genre, I feel that lack something (idk what is) so couldn't enjoy it as I expected.
I was on the fence about buying this next Kidalang Visual Novel due to the different art style and game premise. I really, really, enjoyed playing An Octave Higher and its prequel some years ago. However, it's safe to say that my doubts were unfounded about the Legend of Everything! Some tropes in its story felt a little much at times, but I absolutely respect the amount of research and thinking which went into crafting this game despite its appearances. Trying to bring a very abstract subject into a take on a genre, rpgs, and get very 'meta-ry' in the narrative... and do a good job, that's no small feat! There's just something endearing about the story, like in the other games by Kidalang, that's hard to describe. It doesn't take itself extremely seriously. It doesn't have the most bells and whistles of VN's out there. BUT, all the elements in the game just fit together so well to create something special and unique. It feels bad that I don't think Kidalang is creating games anymore... and that the Legend of Everything doesn't seem like it got a lot of traction judging by the inactive reviews and Steam Community pages. If this game even looks remotely interesting to you, buy it on a Steam Sale (and get the other two games by Kidalang while you're at it)!
