A real gem
Pokud si to chcete užít hrajte to jak lidi, no. :-)
I love trains and making hard choices this game has both and more!!! I've only beat it once but am looking forward to another replay going through the other route!
Pretty good "Oregon Trail style" RTS, about the Czechoslovak Legion trying to survive the red and white despots. You will make some hard choices, and on the higher difficulty you will have to micromanage resources and squads A LOT, but you can change the difficulty later on, *wink*.
Oh I do LOVE this game, still here in summer 2026 it is one of my favorite games... I will soon have a go at it again! It´s a top title, just the whole historical perspective is really hard and gruesome, but amazing and fantastic at the very same time, when offered here in a Top teir PC game!
I love it!
If you're hoping for a Commandos-style game mixed with survival management, it's not exactly that. The mechanics are rather simple in both modes (train and action) but that's not a bad thing. The game is enjoyable and fun, the story keeps the title on track, and the tactics are rather easy but still require some thinking. Overall, it's a great title, and I hope we get another game in the style of Last “Something” Home. :)
A wonderful survival/strategy/manager/RPG experience. Last Train Home takes a snapshot of history and delivers it to gamers Oregon Trail style. The mechanics, strategies, and obstacles to overcome are somewhat straightforward. You travel on a train from point A to point B, running missions in between and managing resources. The missions play like a top down RTS, with the ability to pause with the space bar. Pretty simple. The real magic lies with the storytelling. Classic RPG elements: beautiful (if translated wonkily) dialogue, difficult choices to make, consequences to suffer, and characters to bond with. Each soldier on the train comes with a story and a personality, to be changed throughout the journey in surprising ways. Losing soldiers hurts...badly. The entire time you are reminded that stories like this actually did happen. The Russian Civil War and subsequent Red Terror of 1918 were devastating to the Russian people, and Last Train Home perfectly captures the essence of that time. Also, soundtrack slams.
Armored trains have always fascinated me, especially because they played such an important role in the Baltic independence wars. In Estonia and Latvia at least, they helped create the spark needed to push back the Reds and eventually achieve independence. This game is truly one of a kind. As far as I know, no other game really explores this event or this period so well, which is amazing to me. There are so many historical events that took place but are rarely portrayed in video games, and this game gives me hope that developers will continue bringing those forgotten stories to light. For me, the game portrayed the horror of the Russian Civil War really well. However, I do feel like the second part of the game was a bit less shocking or eventful. Maybe that is because I had already gotten used to the terror and brutality by then, but I would have loved to see more events involving helping villagers. I also wish there was an option to take civilians with you if you chose to and had enough space for them on the train. Maybe it is just me telling myself that I would not have left those two girls behind to die there. The combat was cool, though I am not going to talk too much about how an entire squad of ten soldiers managed to miss all their shots for ten seconds while trying to hit one enemy hiding behind a small rock. Well, it happens. Because of that, I learned to use more grenades and flanking tactics. Overall, it is a truly amazing game. I completed it in two days, and at no point did I feel bored or like I was just waiting for it to end. It stayed interesting until the very end. The one thing I really hated was that you cannot save mid-mission. My game crashed multiple times during my playthrough, including during the final battle, which meant I had to do the whole mission again and get back to the fort. That was frustrating. I also really liked that the game lets you play the way you want. You can make it easier or harder for yourself by choosing different soldier traits, and I always appreciate having that kind of choice. I do not think that is a bad thing at all. The atmosphere was amazing. Being able to zoom in on the train and see people doing their own tasks added a lot to the experience. Some parts of it felt a bit simplified, but I can accept that. Overall, this game is a true gem and well worth the money.
