Lara Croft GO: Tactical Efficiency and The Portable Tomb Lara Croft GO is a stellar example of how to adapt a major franchise into a mobile-first experience. It distills the essence of classic Tomb Raider—the isolation, the traps, and the sense of discovery—into a series of beautifully minimalist, diorama-like puzzles. Thankfully, I can transfer my save as well. Because the game is built in Unity.

This is such a simple game upon first look, but it is so well done that I think it might have made it in my top 15 games of all time already. In this isometric puzzle, you play as Lara Croft and you do typical Lara Croft things, exploring ruins, stealing, I mean collecting relics and avoiding anything that could be deadly. Both you and the environment take turns making moves. When it's your turn, you can move one unit in one direction. When it's the environment's turn everything moves simultaneously. That includes all enemies, saw blades, and so on. This game is a mobile port, but it really doesn't feel like one IF you use controller. Or just play it on your phone because you can't use your keyboard at all. Completing each level felt so rewarding and despite the tense atmosphere at times, this was such a cosy experience. It gets bonus points for the rotating menu screen and the iconic Lara Croft animations. Finally, I want to mention that there are no tutorials at all, but you don't need them anyway and if you're ever stuck, there are hints. As a fan of Lara Croft and someone interested in puzzle games, I tried this title and it didn’t disappoint me. It’s not a typical puzzle game with free movement; instead, it’s based on turn‑based puzzle mechanics (at least that’s what I’d call it). The early levels are easy, but as you progress the difficulty increases, and with new mechanics introduced every now and then, the experience gets even better. However, I personally didn’t enjoy the controls. They feel like they were designed for phone touch input. I tried both keyboard and mouse as well as a controller, but neither felt good. Playing on a phone using Steam Link felt much better. Although there isn’t really a story, I enjoyed the sense of adventure and progression it offered. The loop of navigating ancient ruins, dodging traps, and outsmarting deadly creatures feels like a brilliant digital board game. It’s simple to pick up, but mastering the later levels requires sharp spatial awareness and careful planning. Watching a complex, multi-step trap click into place perfectly never gets old. While the relatively short runtime and lack of random elements might limit replayability, the atmospheric soundtrack and crisp art style make it a joy to play through. If you’re looking for a relaxing yet deeply satisfying puzzle adventure with a classic action hero twist, this is a gem. 8.5/10
