Will you survive?
Lamentum is inspired by classic survival horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill along with cosmic horror masterpieces, especially the Cthulhu mythos.
Lamentum is a dark and adult-themed game, in which the player can enjoy classic survival-horror gameplay.
Lamentum is a classic survival horror, so our protagonist will attain different weapons and tools during his stay at Grau Hill Mansion.
Victor will need a lamp to see in the dark, to use lock picks to open sealed doors and chests and use restoratives to recover his health. A myriad of other tools will be needed to forge a path through this twisting nightmare world.

To defend against the dangers that haunt him, Victor will have many melee and ranged weapons at his disposal.

Each weapon is different and has unique strengths and weaknesses. Choosing your weapon carefully is essential to survival.

Firearms provide a huge advantage due to their range, but they consume ammunition, a resource that is scarce in Grau Hill Mansion.

Many items may be hidden at first, use your ingenuity to find them.

You can play Lamentum with keyboard and mouse (in the PC version) or use a gamepad.

Your inventory is limited, and you will have to choose which objects to carry at each moment. In certain places you can use the item box to store objects for later use.

Our inventory system allows you to create shortcuts to frequently used objects.
This system allows players, for example, to quickly switch between a melee weapon, a ranged weapon and a potion, making combat more agile and effective.
In addition, we can consult a diary that will record the thoughts and annotations of our protagonist.

The world of Lamentum is full of nightmare creatures, each of them with different behaviors and attacks.

Creatures are not the only danger in Grau Hill Mansion, there are traps that will reward your ingenuity or punish your mistakes with death, dangerous puzzles, and lethal environments.

During your nightmarish journey you will meet other characters and strange beings. Think carefully about who you trust and who you don’t… every decision you make can have important consequences.

Lamentum will have different endings depending on Victor’s decisions during the game. We want Lamentum to be a replayable experience and a challenge to obtain the best possible end.

A ambientação é o grande destaque. Nota: 8,5/10.
I think it is a great game. The story is fine. It was interesting to see a mix of Lovecraftian and Frankenstein lore. The characters were memorable. The Eldrich horror was tangible. The gameplay was easy to navigate. There was enough variety of things to do, except maybe a couple, such as the doll. Even the non-negotiable punishments, such as the rope and first coin tossing into the fountain, are acceptable. There are problems, such as necessity to check every inch to get teeth and coins. Also, there are loop holes. More notes and more dialogues could fix the issues. Also, the final boss for S ending could be nice.
Silent Hill 2 / Resident Evil with a smidge of Lovecraft. This game is excellent and well worth the price. It has an interesting premise, plays really well, it's very logical and the combat controls are great which makes fighting the monsters slightly more fun than usual for this type of game. Only down side is you can't skip dialogue. There aren't many places where this is a big issue, but the few windy dialogs right before a boss fight can get really annoying.
Steam Deck
Perfect. Runs really well, easy on the battery and looks great on the screen.
Pixelated Silent Hill, 19th century style.
While I'm being okay at the most and sometimes terrible at those kind of games, I do like some survival-horror from time to time ; the pixel art and the atmosphere sealed the deal for me. The pitch is simple : you impersonate Victor, newly wed, with his wife being already afflicted with an incurable disease. Dejected by normal science, you set out to some creepy lonesome manor, where an eccentric lord dabbling in the occult lives. Of course, everything goes wrong : you wake up wounded, without any memories of what happened. Your wife is nowhere to be seen and the manor shifted to a galery of grotesque macabre stuff all around. The game then plays like Resident Evil, with a touch of Silent Hill for the theme and atmosphere, and some Lovecraftian aspect. In the beginning, it works fine - you collect keys, avoid or slash monsters, solve simple puzzles, encounter characters and explore the mansion. Then the flaws start to become obvious. The main one for me was the combat. As mentioned I'm not great at survival-horror, but even for me, it was way too simple. Most ennemies are either too slow or without enouch reach (or both) to be a real threat. As they rarely attack you in groups or in tight places, slashing and backing away works for most of them. I really pitied the plant-monster emitting poison gas : it's its only attack, you can cut him at leisure, go away, wait for him to come back and do it again. Almost no monster needs a special tactic and the only time I fired my pistol was against one boss. Add an abundance of healing items and tension evaporates, which is a huge blow for a survival-horror game. My other main gripe is the story itself. Even if you are tolerant and dismiss the other characters who cannot be bothered to tell Victor in details what is happening (if they did, he wouldn't continue - but it's not clever writing, it's being contrived), there is a distinct lack of memorable moments and emotion. Victor go through the motions in a nightmare, but his dialogues are generic, his reactions are mild, it's quite difficult to get involved- what's more, the narrative is quite predictable. For such a short game, it wouldn't have been reasonable to expect deep lore and a master-level at crafting a scenario, but it does the bare minimum to motivate you to continue. There are four different endings, all very short and the "best" one is locked under silly requirements : collecting tooths and strange coins. Even if there were hints for that, I really feel that kind of feature shouldn't be present at all. Working to earn your good ending is only natural - collecting unrelated trinkets, sometimes hidden in obtuse places, doesn't make sense and feels out of place. All in all, you can feel the love put into the game, alas, it doesn't translate to a unique experience. Good art and great atmosphere are not enough to carry Lamentum. My advice ? Try Look Outside.
Excellent game with excellent gameplay and story, really! Totally worth your time!
Completely unimpressive game - an unoriginal story that feels like it's been done dozens of times before, bland writing and dialogue (doesn't have any 19th century flavour), laughably easy combat, and an obscene amount of backtracking across mostly boring locations. It's a decent 'baby's first introduction to survival horror', I suppose, but that's about it. Wouldn't rate this above a 5/10.
