⭐ A True Archaeological Masterpiece That Refuses to Hold Your Hand

🇺🇸 English 🎮 Introduction La-Mulana makes one thing clear from the very beginning: it won't guide you every step of the way. Instead of constantly pointing toward the next objective, it trusts the player to explore, observe, and connect the dots. The opening hours can feel overwhelming, but once the world starts making sense, it's incredibly difficult to put down. 🔥 Gameplay Exploration and puzzle-solving are the heart of the experience. Every room might contain an important clue, and even the smallest detail can become relevant hours later. Combat is straightforward but demands good timing and patience, especially during boss fights. What truly sets La-Mulana apart is that progression relies far more on your ability to think and observe than on character upgrades. 🎨 Graphics & Audio The pixel art has aged remarkably well and perfectly matches the atmosphere of exploring ancient ruins. Every area feels distinct and full of mystery. The soundtrack does an excellent job of building immersion, shifting naturally between quiet exploration and memorable boss themes. Performance is smooth and consistently reliable. ⚖️ Difficulty & Progression This is not a game designed for players looking for an easy ride. Many puzzles require careful note-taking, close attention to dialogue, and genuine problem-solving. Some solutions may seem impossible at first, but finally figuring them out is one of the most rewarding feelings the game offers. It challenges your mind far more than your reflexes. 🧩 Fun & Replayability Even after completing the adventure, there are still hidden secrets, alternate routes, and plenty of details that are easy to miss during a first playthrough. Returning with more knowledge makes exploration even more satisfying. It's the kind of game that keeps you thinking about puzzles long after you've stopped playing. ✅ Final Verdict La-Mulana is a love letter to classic exploration games. It doesn't try to appeal to everyone, and that's exactly what makes it so special. If you enjoy metroidvanias, rewarding exploration, and puzzles that genuinely test your intelligence, this is an experience well worth having. ⭐ Highly recommended for players who enjoy challenging exploration, clever puzzle design, and discovering everything on their own. No, thanks.
don't play it for your health too many traps and pranks fk it
It's obvious exactly what era of gaming this game takes after. It's from the era when people thought that the only way for a game to be difficult was to remove player agency. To be the most difficult game, you need to have the most awkward controls and the highest number of unforeseeable death conditions. It's from back when the business model of being a game developer was all to do with optimising how often you could get your players to insert another coin into the arcade machine, by making them die in ways that aren't their fault in carefully-premeditated patterns. The most profitable arcade game (and therefore the most successful arcade game) was the one that was the best at frustrating its players into continuing, without ever frustrating them into quitting. Our understanding of entertainment has come a long way since then. Some people will like this, but I very much do not.
I had to think long and hard about this one, but I cannot recommend the game. I did enjoy my experience with it but I am in the vast minority of players and even I end up coming away from the game disappointed. I enjoy retro games, I enjoy challenges, I enjoy ball punching difficulty and this game has those things. But nobody is completing this game without either a guide or hundreds of hours. There are still guides with certain achievements that can't say with 100% certainty how to get them. Some of the puzzles in the game work very well and you'll feel good figuring them out. Some of them are beyond impossible without trial and error for hours on end. If you DO want to play this game, I would say generally the first 4 bosses are doable. Then the next two, doable but you will need to put in a lot of work. For the last 2 bosses? Dozens of hours of work. For the last boss? You've cheated. You did not figure it out and if anybody asked you to show your work you would not be able to. I have heard that the 2nd game in the series is more approachable and one day I will check it out, but on this night I cannot recommend anybody this game unless they are specifically looking to spend 100+ hours wandering around checking every wall, logging every bit of game text in a notebook, and hand drawing maps of every room.
Great game with great puzzles. Certain things seem really random, even more so if you don't access and complete Eden ASAP. Combat is meh, is improved in the second game though.
El metroidvania definitivo. Rebosa carisma, ingenio y personalidad en cada píxel, ofreciendo una de las aventuras más inolvidables (y estresantes) del medio.
