This game was absolutely terrific. I can't recommend it enough. I really want more people to dig into it, give this company the opportunity to make more. But the big honking caveat: this is a niche game. If you're interested in hardcore, D&D turn-based RPGs with loads of complex mechanics and where failure is a real possibility, this is among the best games ever made. It really scratches that itch. More than that: I've put over 500 hours into this game, and finished it this morning for the first time. I don't spend that kind of time on a game. I just really like it - I started over 4 times, just because, before finally finishing. Now I'm trying an evil party on Ironman. I expect to survive about 10 minutes. If you like heavy combat strategy, this is for you. If you like agonizing over character builds, look no further. If you like desperately throwing the dregs of what you have left at the third unexpected combat before being able to rest this is it - you'll have to be creative and crafty across the board. It's really, really, really good. Anyway: if you're a hardcore, turn-based CRPG enthusiast, you'll love it, and you won't regret that price tag. If that isn't you, though, this is NOT the entry point into the genre.

My true playtime is about 15 hrs. The game is good but I won't recommend it to anyone except 3.5e and tactics veterans looking for a challenge. In my opinion the first game is far superior to this sequel. Still, I got my money's worth and had a good time :)
This game is very good! However, you need to be part of the target audience... If you want the best possible enemy AI, and don't care all that much about appearance, then you need to buy this game. On the other hand, if you have low tolerance for losing, and don't want to take the time to figure out how to win, then you should give this a miss. The graphics are not good, but graphics are not what I am here for. Best tactical combat I have seen out of a non-human IS what I am here for, and its worth the price of admission.
So the game is ugly and hateful, but if you're someone who plays CRPGs on the hardest difficulty and really likes cranking the 3.5 engine to solve hard encounters, you'll probably have fun. For everyone who says the game is too hard, I would recommend that you abuse stinking cloud, grease, tripping, disarming, and psionicists in general more liberally. I think its probably worth playing until about level 12, when the bosses start becoming level 9 wizards and can spam screen filling aoes that each have a 50+% chance to kill anyone they hit. Before that, its pretty alright. I'm sure if I was playing more optimally, or willing to reset more, I could solve it, but that is what you're getting yourself into. I got my fill out of it.
Amazing combat-focused rpg with great encounters and enemy AI.
This is a weird one. The game is still supported with regular updates so it may be a decent product in years to come. Who knows? As it stands, it isn't. The reason it isn't are multifold - starting with the character generator. To spend the price of an AAA game and not even get a SPRITE that looks like the race you are designing should be a refund on the spot. They're all "human," breaking immersion immediately. Further than that, encounters are set up to be unfair and play like an old nintendo game or something, where you are whisked away just as you thought the fight was won and suddenly you're in another, deadlier fight with your party battered already. Low Magic Age is the best 3rd ed, INDIE dnd game, and it's fairly priced, too. KotC2 needs a lot of work to make it worth buying at the price it's at now.
no female Drakes ... unfair
If you really enjoy an unfair Tabletop experience, this game is for you. The second or third combat pits you against creatures with a DR of 20 with a single character who can deal damage... it took at least 5 tries to get an iniative count that did result in the NPCs going after that character first round, making the fight impossible. And that's literally within the first two combats. After first major combat, the 'DM' notes that "If you don't understand why you've won, go back and play the combat again", a combat, by the way, which sets 2 casters of level four, plus 5-6 CR 1 or 2 martial monsters against a party of 4 level 2s. Also, the dialogue is very "beginner DM meets C- Language Arts grade".
Probably the worst game I've bought in a very, very long time. This claims to be a 3.5 D&D game, but if any DM had run campaigns like this back then, literally no one would play D&D. Over-priced garbage; absolute waste of money. Pitting 5 level 1 characters (that you don't get to design) against a level 4 Necromancer and 6 monsters is about the dumbest ♥♥♥♥ I've ever seen. You'd be better off paying someone the $50 to stomp on your hands repeatedly in steel-tipped stilettos. Less painful than trying to play whatever the f* this is supposed to be.
