Thirty minutes in and this is bad. Graphically it looks stellar, I only wish I could've explored more. The tutorial, is this games breaking point. The, tutorial... Sound quality is asinine with no background music and no effects when you swing a sword, only when it collides with something. The combat itself is jarring. It's so clunky, so basic. There's no feeling, no flashiness, no impact of my attacks, nor the enemies. The camera is terrible, clipping into the fog boundary for the tutorial if you're too close to while locked onto an enemy, which you can't see through as the fog doesn't go transparent around the camera so you can see the action. Falling off a small ledge or climbing up a hill seems to throw the camera into a locked looking up- or down position and you cannot fix it without restarting the game.. which restarts the tutorial. The movement animation is clunky, like a basic asset package just got a Knight thrown onto it. This game does have controller support, but I feel it was built for it. Albeit yes I was using keyboard and mouse, but most people playing games through steam will ideally use keyboard and mouse. Speaking of the controls... Forward, defaults to Z, and left defaults to Q ...... why.... just why. WASD works for anyone and everyone, keep it that way. The inventory is basic, as with the items. (I) opens the inventory and you click on items to obtain to equip/use them. The tutorial is supposed to show you simple mechanics, but you can just swing your sword at the three enemies to win, not following the prompts. They die in two swings, but this soft-locks the game if you move quickly and don't follow prompts. After resetting for the fifth time due to camera issues and the game freezing. I raced through the three knights, and got stuck with a prompt constantly flashing "Use shift to doge an attack" but I couldn't because the enemy was already dead. The one time I got out of the tutorial I found an ogre just up the hill and fought it. It gave no chase, no rage. Just stood, swinging its club every few cycles. I killed it, note that I killed ONE single ogre/troll and got an achievement for killing three.. The tutorial... ruined it, far too clunky and too many problems. Focus on the mechanics, that the players start with and how to properly apply them, instead of focusing on aesthetics. I know there's more the to the game, but I couldn't see it because of the tutorial, prevented me from seeing any of it.

This game looks like a step up from Skyrim. It just looks great. I like to use a controler, but when I get jumped by a bad guy getting it to lock on them sometimes never happens. The camera also jumps to some angle where you cant see whats going on. As far as I can tell there is no pause in a battle. I press 'Y' on the controller and it does nothing, even after I set it to switch inventory. Also the 'A' button doesn't always work, but E on the keyboard does. I have only played for 2 hours and I feel like I had a work out. Not sure if thats a good thing or not. I want to play some more. I like the game, some glitches make it tuff and on the forums they seem to have been there in 2019. Most of the newest posts are from last year, so I am not sure how involved the developers are with the forums. Going to stick it out for awhile and it runs great and does not take up much hard drive space so I can keep it there for awhile.
I'll put it as it is, the game is unfinished, and much like the old cemetery across the street from my house, it's been abandoned. The concept wasn't bad, but the game is hella boring. Once you clear the tutorial, you have one goal, and it's to kill Ragaboth or whatever his name was. Once you kill him, there's nothing else to do, unless of course you want to get all of the achievements for some reason. There are 5 swords and 5 shields scattered around the map, but the map is so devoid of anything interesting that I would rather choke on a pack of thumb tacks than explore the whole map looking for them. There is MAYBE 10 enemies around the entire map, and they are easily kill-able and pose no challenge nor fun. Also, the voicelines suck. They only exist during the bossfight, but the boss' voicelines are so quiet while yours are so loud, and the voice acting sucks harder than being Lana Rhoades's kid. Also, you can choose your language in the main menu, but the voicelines are french regardless. Another complaint, you can't screw with the sound settings. They start all on 0, and if you mess with them once, they get stuck at 100. Game sucks but it was fun to mess around with as a 30 minute distraction from the real world, 2/10
meh combat sucks. cool graphics tho. and its all in french
Here’s my review of Kingdom of Rhea after 10.1h playtime. First of gorgeous game, for being Free2play the graphics are beyond expectations. I like the idea of the game being an medieval open world adventure rpg. It’s a quite large and open map with lots of different elements. The idea of building up strength and finding gear to be able to defeat the boss was fun. The boss had different attack styles and even a phase 2 where he upgrades, really felt like a boss. He was hard and I felt I needed to find better weapons to be able to beat him. The map had a nice mix of rumble and broken houses. The weapons and armour both on player and enemies looked great. I loved the heartbeat sound increasing as you use up your energy. Also the sound of the puddles when you walked or ran over them. The big trolls looked great, reminded me of Lord of the rings trolls. There’s a few things I would like that they added, first of all JUMP. It’s very frustrating not to be able to jump, it would also add more to the dodge element of the combat. Missed not having a map, I had to orient by the compass. I would also like to see fall damage. Here’s my suggestion for the game. Make it possible to move while blocking. Boss is very glitchy also the sound from the cutscene is off balanced. I would focus more on getting the boss flawless since this game feels more like a demo with 1 boss. Have a save game, it’s a die and reset game. You have to start from the beginning if you quit the game. A sensitivity option would be nice, especially since you get motion sickness from all the shakiness of the camera. Fix the camera, everytime you enter a door frame the camera freaks out. The cutscene for the boss was super blurry. Sound of the water was extremely high. Also there was no swimming effect or drowning effect of the water, I feel like that's pretty important in a rpg. The bigger trolls were hard to find and were the easiest to fight, I would make them hit faster or maybe even move since they stood still. Even found a troll that was unkillable. Make sure that there’s no places you get stuck on. For example there was a building I entered, fell down to the basement and then couldn't get up again. For being a f2p game I enjoyed my time. Even though I found 37 bugs and broke the game. I’d give it 3/10 I enjoyed it, but it was also very buggy and frustrating at times. I would call it a demo more than a game.
Has a lot of potential. For now, it's not very well optimised and has weird controller schemes. Graphics can be nice though.
GUIDE AND REVIEW
• If you are confused about the game or stuck while playing read my review! • I have written a guide to help you enjoy what the game has to offer! • Scroll down for the review! • It is possible that when you play Kingdom Rhea, future updates may make my review obsolete, so keep that in mind. (I did my playthrough 21/01/2021) [h5]GUIDE[/h5] Kingdom of Rhea is not a complete game; I only enjoyed the game because I was patient enough to get through its issues; particularly when setting up controls. Read the guide if you are curious to play anyway. • Make sure to choose your language in the main menu by clicking on a flag (English is second from the left) • Upon starting the game, you should turn on all sound effects and music; to make sure you don’t miss out on the soundtrack. I got through the whole game and didn’t realise there was a soundtrack, but it’s very nice; so, make sure to turn on sound and music! • Make sure to press save and apply! • Next fix the controls, the movement and mouse controls were very strange, here’s a list of things I fixed: • Movement – W A S D • Vertical mouse look – (Moved my mouse up or down) on the look up or look down control. (Try both if one doesn’t work) • Horizontal mouse look – (Moved my mouse to the right) • Block – Right click • Make sure to press save and apply! [h5]Getting Through Buggy Tutorial:[/h5] • Its easy to get lost so remember where you start. To your right is a resting/prayer fire spot, this respawns enemies, restores health and lets you level up. (Like dark souls). • The tutorial can bug out if you do things to quickly or in the wrong order. Here’s what worked for me: • I began by walking out of a ruined castle and collecting a sword. You need to equip all new weapons and shields with by pressing “ i ”. • Next find the shield (you should also equip this). • Kill a knight • Find a stamina potion • Kill a knight • Find a health potion • The game then asks you kill one more enemy, but this time by incorporating the dodge mechanic. • If for some reason the tutorial doesn’t progress at any point, you will have to restart; go back to the fireplace and respawn the enemies. If this still doesn’t work; quit and restart, progress isn’t saved so you will be given a fresh start. • If you find yourself trapped somewhere you cannot escape, you can respawn at the fireplace by navigating the pause menu and pressing suicide [h5]Beating The Game:[/h5] • New quest: Find a new sword and shield to beat the boss; Hargoth • Using the HUD you can find Hargoth • Before killing Hargoth, make sure to explore for potions and weapons first • The improved swords and shields are lost somewhere in the open world, so get searching (I found 1 sword and 1 shield; they were hard to find • Killing knights and trolls helps with getting potions and skill points • When you get a skill point, run back to a fireplace and upgrade your character • Dying or suiciding will result in you losing your experience and skill points, go back to where you last died to reclaim them (like in dark souls). [h5]REVIEW[/h5] Kingdom of Rhea takes inspiration from Dark Souls, so if you like that style then you might enjoy. But it does seem to have no originality of its own, just feels like a watered-down Dark Souls. It’s hard to know what you’re supposed to be doing after the tutorial. Story elements like text or dialogue with NPCs would help the player understand what is going on. [h5]The Good:[/h5] • The game looks beautiful on the highest settings. • The music is very nice. • The world is a nice place to explore [h5]The Bad:[/h5] • It is unfinished as of my playthrough but I feel as though the developers could have released the game in better condition • The game is buggy • The controls for combat are very stiff and clunky • There is no story told in the game, relies on the steam page for the background of the game • Game is very short (but my first playthrough took me a few hours) [h5]Final Thoughts:[/h5] Don’t expect much from the game as of 21/01/2021 but it is a nice game to play through if a few of the issues are solved. It could be a really good game if it was completed. However, it seems unlikely that additional work will be done.
i keep pressing save but it doesnt work
