Ok, after playing an additional 18 hours of this, and being on track to finish the game i feel the need to rewrite this review. Originally i did not recommend this because the irksome 2d sections which did nothing but aggrevate me by forcefully locking the camera. and then comming to the open world section that really tanked my FPS to below 50 on a high end system that ran everything on a sweet 144fps till then. those grievances still stand, and luckily after playing the open world some more, it's not constantly below 50 fps, just in certain spots looking at certain directions. However what made me turn this to a thumbs up is because the story is just so interesting to me and it got me hooked. and the visuals also are quite charming. if you're on the fence, get it on a sale and there's a good chance you won't regret it in the end.
Baffling. Simply baffling that this game has “mixed” reviews. I would understand “mostly positive” because of some jankiness and simple combat, but “mixed” is just disrespectful. There are some games that you can tell are made by gamers first and artists/storytellers second, and some games that are the opposite. This is most certainly an artist first game. The lore is incredibly deep and intriguing, the art direction is top notch, and the world itself is well put together. But the moment to moment gameplay leaves something to be desired. It has simple combat with every weapon having the exact same moveset, just some quicker or slower than others. It has janky collision and enemies are incredibly easy to stunlock most of the time so the game is quite easy except for a couple boss fights. I do want to take a moment to praise the boss fights. For a game that has generally middling combat, the bosses are actually both fun and challenging. The exploration is also a lot of fun as long as you don’t mind if the rewards you get for it are yet another useless item. I don’t mind that, for me the exploration is the reward and just the experience of learning the map and seeing new areas. But if you play a game like Elden Ring and get annoyed at yet another arteria leaf or cookbook then this game does no better in that regard. Last thing I’ll say is that I really liked the music, there just wasn’t enough variety. I definitely recommend this game (especially since it goes on sale for $3, like come on) if you’re at all interested and are ok with a little jank here and there.
The combat is not as good as it should be for a souls like, but the level design is very good. I really enjoy the world building and overall visuals, I never thought data-fantasy was something i wanted until i saw this game. Please give this game a shot if you see it on sale, it is full of performance issues and bugs that can get frustrating at times and will leave you feeling cheated if you buy it full price. Despite the bugs and mediocre combat, its one of my personal favorite games to come back to replay.
How can this game have mixed reviews? How come is this game not more talked about? How can people miss this gem? Wtf world. This is an incredibly well crafted game for those who enjoy rpg layered with mystery and secret lore. You can make mistakes, but you learn about where you are at. I will update my review with more details once I have completed the game. This is a hidden gem. Amazing work Redlock Studios. I'm playing this before giving Hypnos a try.
I grant you it doesn't have the most complicated combat in all of gamedom dark souls or sekiro it is not, but the looks and general vibe are awesome and if you want to play a bit more simplified game then either of those games this one is just fine; Game difficulty is not a mark of quality just because it's hard doesn't mean it's good nor does and easy game means it's crap.
This game felt like a little bit like Nier, a little bit like Dark Souls. Not as good as either, but considering I've seen the price get down to $3, it's super good. Like Nier and DS, the story is hinted out but not outright given to you. I didn't run into any major bugs, though I did find multiple ways to skip past areas and break into places I wasn't supposed to be yet. I never got stuck in those places, though. It doesn't hold your hand, boss fights can be tricky, and upgrades are fun. I loved it. I'm genuinely surprised to come back to it and find it with a Mixed review rating.
I wanted a soulslike with a focus on exploration and this game was the right pick. Play it if you like to search everty corner to discover little secrets and hidden areas. It is closer to a Breath Ot The Wild than to a Elden Ring. Good game overall!
