Interesting, but shallow. So, I've put a fair number of hours into King of Retail because I'm a weirdo who likes weirdo simulator games. On that front, King of Retail does have some pretty cool things going for it. The amount of customization is pretty huge, letting you design your store's look, layout, floorplan, and signs about however you want. There is even a basic photo editor that will like you create your own signs to put up in game. If you play in campaign mode, you can even slowly build out an army of stores, run your HQ, acquire benefits, fight against competition, and some other cool things that give more depth than just running one store. However, there are a few problems that will be a serious issue for most people; the type of store you can build is very limited: grocery, clothing, or electronic. That's it. And while each category has a fair number of items in it that all look pretty good and have their own unique stats, it is limited. Eventually, all of your stores are going to look the same. Employees can also be annoying, constantly calling in sick and demanding raises. It's rare for a day to go by without one or both of these things happening. One of the biggest problem, however, is that the game does a poor job of conveying information, and there are 2 specific places I think it's the worst: 1) Figuring out what TYPE of items your customers want. See, every item has 3 stats; Price, Quality, Fashion. Your customers are also divided by their class: Student, Farmer, Accountant, Celebrity, etc. Each type of customer prefers a specific kind of stats for the item they buy, and even through the game offers you a handy graph about is, I can never seem to get it right, meaning that I'll have items that sit on shelves going unsold. And speaking of shelves, here is 2): the other place where this game fails to give information is in its shelving units. See, there are a number of different types of shelves that hold different kinds of goods, and while some of them tell you exactly how many articles of an item can fit on those shelves, others don't. They just say 'VARIES', which makes it hard to guess how many items you can put on there. Maybe this won't be a big deal for some, but I like having my stores nice and orderly, so having guess how much of each item to buy can be annoying. There are also a number of bugs, glitches, and QOL improvements that need to be made to this game. Honestly, despite all of the negative things, I would have still given this game a positive review as everything that is wrong here are things that could be fixed. However, I don't think they will be fixed, as it seems the Dev has abandoned this game right after release without so much as a Workshop so fans could edit the game themselves. Honestly, it's a shame. King of Retail does do a fair bit right, but it's the compiling minor issues and corner-cutting of this game that just keeps it from getting a better review. If you can look past the faults and go in knowing that the game is going to be semi-jank, then you will have fun here. Just don't pay full price.

Every market we collect.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.44/day in the week to Aug 4 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Just don't. You'll look at this years later and say to yourself, why did I work for free?
It's fun at first, but becomes repetitive soon. Graphics look a bit old school. Lot's of bugs. And according to his Discord server, the Developer doesn't care about this game anymore. He's already working on the next game instead of fixing this one first. One year ago, I would've rated this game top, but now I just can say "Don't buy it!"
The game feels unfinished and abandoned by the developers in favor of its sequel
I've enjoyed playing this game for 952 hours, & will continue for many more! Yes, there were a few minor issues that were not addressed, however, it DOES NOT prevent you from experiencing great & enjoyable game play in a decent retail simulation! As a former retail manager, I feel like I've stepped back in time with this game. Merchandising stores, achieving profitability, hiring/firing employees & generally bossing people around. :) The game is well worth the original price I paid & then some!
abandoned game, no updates
Went broke in 3 days. 11/10 for realism
The Idea of the game is very good, But the DEVS left the game way to soon. there was loads og potential in this game and they left it to die, and alot of players did to, but if you whant a store sim, BIG AMBITIONS is way better.
Great game but **** day mechanic absolutely ruins it. Being able to only visit 1 of your stores in a day makes absolutely no sense. I should be able to leave a store, go to my headquarters and go to another store to check on it all in the same day. I mean come on how am I supposed to effectively manage 5 stores when I can only visit one of them a day? I do not understand how some people can enjoy this mechanic. I am hoping that the developer does not implement such a stupid mechanic in KOR2.
