I really wanted to like this game, and early on it showed promise. But it's very monotonous and tedious. More, it gets no updates of any kind. It's been almost six months since release but other than a few week 2 patches, nothing. It already feels like this game is dead.

Every market we collect.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.44/day in the week to Aug 4 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Way too complex not due its systems. But because the tutorials uses the wrong terms compared to what the actual menus say. So it makes you kind of guess your way through. Not really enjoyable

This game is abandoned and in its current quality feels like early access at best.
Interesting, but shallow. So, I've put a fair number of hours into King of Retail because I'm a weirdo who likes weirdo simulator games. On that front, King of Retail does have some pretty cool things going for it. The amount of customization is pretty huge, letting you design your store's look, layout, floorplan, and signs about however you want. There is even a basic photo editor that will like you create your own signs to put up in game. If you play in campaign mode, you can even slowly build out an army of stores, run your HQ, acquire benefits, fight against competition, and some other cool things that give more depth than just running one store. However, there are a few problems that will be a serious issue for most people; the type of store you can build is very limited: grocery, clothing, or electronic. That's it. And while each category has a fair number of items in it that all look pretty good and have their own unique stats, it is limited. Eventually, all of your stores are going to look the same. Employees can also be annoying, constantly calling in sick and demanding raises. It's rare for a day to go by without one or both of these things happening. One of the biggest problem, however, is that the game does a poor job of conveying information, and there are 2 specific places I think it's the worst: 1) Figuring out what TYPE of items your customers want. See, every item has 3 stats; Price, Quality, Fashion. Your customers are also divided by their class: Student, Farmer, Accountant, Celebrity, etc. Each type of customer prefers a specific kind of stats for the item they buy, and even through the game offers you a handy graph about is, I can never seem to get it right, meaning that I'll have items that sit on shelves going unsold. And speaking of shelves, here is 2): the other place where this game fails to give information is in its shelving units. See, there are a number of different types of shelves that hold different kinds of goods, and while some of them tell you exactly how many articles of an item can fit on those shelves, others don't. They just say 'VARIES', which makes it hard to guess how many items you can put on there. Maybe this won't be a big deal for some, but I like having my stores nice and orderly, so having guess how much of each item to buy can be annoying. There are also a number of bugs, glitches, and QOL improvements that need to be made to this game. Honestly, despite all of the negative things, I would have still given this game a positive review as everything that is wrong here are things that could be fixed. However, I don't think they will be fixed, as it seems the Dev has abandoned this game right after release without so much as a Workshop so fans could edit the game themselves. Honestly, it's a shame. King of Retail does do a fair bit right, but it's the compiling minor issues and corner-cutting of this game that just keeps it from getting a better review. If you can look past the faults and go in knowing that the game is going to be semi-jank, then you will have fun here. Just don't pay full price.
Just don't. You'll look at this years later and say to yourself, why did I work for free?
I want to like this game, but it's so buggy and clunky. It feels so unfinished I thought it was an early access game, just to realize there is a sequel? Is the sequel more of this? Cause I wouldn't buy this game again. Love the idea, but it needed more work before a whole sequel came out. That's crazy
So promising, yet so... abandoned. As a former retail manager, this definitely satisfied an itch for me to create a non-toxic workplace for myself. Interesting and in-depth analytics, a competent inventory system, some decent thought into end-game mechanics.... Unfortunately, the content ends up falling short down the road as there just isn't anything new being added to this fairly barebones game. You can only manage 3 types of retail industry stores- clothes, electronics, and food. There is a very limiting number of assets, from appearances to furniture. There are like 10 different designs of NPCs, which gets a little uncanny valley for me. I can't recommend it, simply because the game lacks enough content to justify the $25 price tag, given that it won't expect any new content. I honest to god think that if this game added some basic content and simple asset updates, it would be phenomenal. But at the moment, it feels like a gameplay preview. The developer stopped updating the game in the end of 2022, citing a mental break. I wish them the best, but don't expect anything promising in terms of future updates. If they start updating, I'll definitely change my review.
