Urban Trial Freestyle

Freestyling through the streets because that's what I'm about.

A worthwhile alternate to the Trials series (and practically a carbon copy of the game-play). The levels are well made and exciting to play, but most importantly the controls are tight and as responsive as you'd hope. Not as good mechanically as Ubisoft Trials Biking games, still a really fun game. The levels are all interesting and well designed. And the ghost of your past run really helps when going for those 5 stars on all the levels. Enjoyed it all the way!!

Competing with the Trials series is no easy task, and Urban Trial Freestyle probably gave it its best shot. But between unappealing graphics and wonky physics, is the game ultimately worth it ? 'Fraid not... It still does some things right, though. The 25 tracks are varied and all have a Time Attack and a Score Attack mode, as well as money bags to find as collectibles. Well hidden throughout the levels, they could even help you discover alternate, faster paths. Using this money, you'll be able to purchase slightly different clothes and upgrade your bike with more powerful engines, brakes, and tires. They may not feel like significant improvements, but will be the difference between earning a silver and a gold medal. What I enjoyed the most though, was all the crazy action that's happening in the background. As you ride your bike on every track, people will kick crates at you, helicopters will crash down, the police will chase after you... Some of it even changes the track itself and sends you on unexpected paths, as if none of it was planned. This, was fun. What I liked a lot less ? Inconsistent physics in a game where they were the most important thing to get right. Doing the same exact jump three times and getting a different score every time. This means that collecting all stars in every level will require patience and luck, having to sometimes rely on lucky bounces to get flung into the air and score big. Which doesn't really feel satisfying, or fair. Worse, those explosions and all the spectacle happening in the background can send items such as crates, barrels and other random decorative props onto the actual track and mess with your run. There is some room for error in the score requirements, but having to restart a perfect attempt because a giant crate supposed to fall out of bounds keeps landing in front of your bike is annoying. And what's up with those levels, all sad and gray ? Whether you're in the sewers, on top of a building or in the forest, all you see is shades of brown and gray. Some color could have given some life to those washed out graphics, this is just sad ! Urban Trial Freestyle is... okay. The tracks are busy and just the right amount of crazy, but inconsistent physics can make for a frustrating experience. A mediocre [b] 5[/b]. That thumb could have been blue and proud instead of red and sad, but you pissed me off, game. So that's on you !

The concept is great, but wow this is a terrible game. The visuals are ugly. The music and sound effects are so bad that you're better of playing the game muted. The level design is terrible. Worst of all, though, you constantly have to compete against online ghosts, which are almost always cheaters. The game will shove cheated scores in your face constantly like it's trying to make you hate it.

my fav game from my childhood, i had it on my 3ds and its just as great as i remember
