Well, boys. It's bad. I gave it a long time to see if they'd fix it...Nah, they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 'er. A lot of homies on here say that Killing Floor 2 is a masterpiece, glorious, and a true advancement from the original! And that Killing Floor 3 is a major surprise. It really wasn't if you guys remember KF2's release. KF2 got so much ♥♥♥♥ for shipping with barely any content. KF2 had loot boxes which was the mark of the devil that battlepasses are today, back then. The difference: KF2 actually gritted its teeth and released new weapons and classes. KF3 dropped with way too many controversies that they knew would be problematic with the player base. No more "Welding dis doah!" It's now a silly consumable gadget instead of a welder that got benefits if you play demo or support. They released with the inability to play the characters you wanted, it was tied to class for no reason. The obvious text chat being missing fiasco. Battlepass is a Faustian pact that these companies never understand. Battlepasses usually aren't complained about if the game is good and people are willing to pay (even if it's scummy imo, but I used to buy dota passes all the time and those are by far the most scammy), but having a battlepass when your game is glaring with flaws is a death sentence. The inability to heal each other with med syringes isn't wise in a team game (I main medic so as much as it's nice to be able to earn points before the asshat heals himself in front of me, I see the issue for groups with no medic). Having only 2 weapon slots was obviously going to be a no-no. And then finally, they decided not to learn from KF2's release and drop with only a starting weapon a mid weapon and an end game weapon for each class. Also, less Zeds? Why? Why did we remove Sirens and Invisi-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? They added stalker back I guess, but...what was the point of getting rid of her in the first place? So, KF2's main problem was not enough content. That was an easy fix and they could hide behind "Early Access". KF3 has a lot of problems, and they haven't done anything but add more premium cosmetics. Ignoring that nobody likes that it's set in the future instead of a contemporary setting, the character and gun designs aren't great. The change in the Zeds ranges from, "eh...kinda cool" to "That's stupid". This is of course an opinion. To list of what I do like: Attachment system is cool when it isn't annoying and worrying about stupid modern crafting gimmicks games like to push, the execution system is pretty metal and I think fits great, the ability to heal chunks of armor instead of healing it all or waiting for the end to use the rest of your money is a nice addition...I thought for a while but that's all I got, which isn't good. The actual gameplay is "acceptable". It's a horde shooter, kinda hard to mess that up too badly. Now for the main killer for this game: IT'S DEAD The game decided that server browsers are for old people, the hip kids like matchmaking. Issue with matchmaking is you can't find anyone. This game peaks at like 300 players these days. If you had a server browser, you could connect and play with other dudes by filtering by player count. I tried to play 6 games today, matchmaking each time and was alone each time. So the issue is: Even if you think you'd like the game, you can't play it. The game isn't set for singleplayer play. You don't have enough ammo and everything moves too quick and swarms you so you can't hold a line or kite for a bit before shooting behind you. You won't be able to afford more than one weapon and even if you can, you're stuck with only 2. It's not like 1 and 2 where you can play solo. So basically, you're dropping your hard earned bucks to have it sit in your library and burden your drive with 22gb(Which I actually will give them props for making it only 22 gigs. Feels like every game is 100 these days.) I give the game a 4/10. If KF2 didn't exist, it'd be probably be a 7/10. Sad truth is, you can't just sell an inferior product than your previous and expect everything to work out. There's a reason why KF2 had such a shakey launch. 1 Still had way more guns and maps. No one cared about the soundtrack, the awesome blood and gore that was location based with pools of blood reflecting things, or the really cool firing animations of the guns (Which was so sick btw) if there's less content. Once KF2 got the updates, that's when it became King. Unfortunately, I do not foresee KF3 getting the same treatment. The matchmaking makes it impossible to play with people and there's already a pathetic amount of players. The lifeblood that would keep this game going until it has enough content, will eventually bleed out from frustration.
After almost 400 hours, I have to say, this will be a good game. I have many problems with it, but it has a unique vibe and a chaos oriented gameplay. I do not play solo, the maps are too big to enjoy that mode. Weekends the game finds players very easily, but a Wednesday night run could be lonely. 10 waves servers rule the game, endless is coming, but I never understood why people love that game type... Dj Scully still the best, the new perk announced, with a new map. The text chat helped me to find few active European players. So, still with the game, I remember where KF2 came from.
Just don't. Go ahead and buy KF2 when it's on sale for like 2$. I typed out this comment below on an update page. I think it'll effectively reach more of the people that need to see it here in the reviews, along with the negative statistic it deserves. I've given the developers time to work out bugs and optimization, and I've given this game a chance, but it is beyond redemption. After nearly a year since it's 1.0 release, it is clear that there is no passion to create an enjoyable and fun to play co-op shooter, it was just a grift. - The biggest issue I have with KF3 is the horrible performance, game constantly stutters and lags ALL THE TIME. Running the 7900XTX on a 5800X3D and still, absolutely horrible performing game. They butchered the level up system too. Game released with day one battle passes and microtransaction store, yet it took the devs something like 10 months to get a text chat running. THE GAME HAD NO FUNCTIONAL TEXT CHAT FOR 10 MONTHS BUT HAD GONE THROUGH 3 SEASONS OF BATTLE PASSES WITH AN IN-GAME STORE CHOCK FULL OF ITEMS TO BUY WITH REAL MONEY. I'm not disappointed with the art direction or the Zeds, or the 'Specialist abilities' or any of that. KF3 is a poorly optimized stuttering laggy mess of a game. No ability to heal teammates w/o the use of medic guns, forcing you to buy the medic pistol which replaces your default pistol (only one pistol weapon slot). No weight system, can no longer carry multiple guns like you used to as with the Support perk. The level up system is minimally transparent. No longer could you see what helps you level quicker, ie no longer could you see how many Stalkers you killed w/ the Assault perk, or if killing stalkers even does anything, because all you see at game end is a XP bar fill up with no info at all. KF1 & KF2 perk leveling felt satisfying, for whatever reason, and they killed it with KF3. The ZED Time bonuses in KF2 were felt even in the early ranks, they are basically unnoticeable in KF3 (maybe once maxing out rank, haven't cared enough to get any perk past lvl 20). Just all around, awful game. Not worth more than 5 dollars in it's current state. I had anticipated something better, I followed along with the high production value teaser trailers, I missed the beta and preordered the 'Nightfall Edition' of the game regardless. Regrets. I don't even want to see these games in my games list anymore, they might join the ranks of my 'hidden games' where I never have to entertain the thought of playing KF3 again. - Not only did it take 10 months to implement a freaking text chat. THEY MADE IT OUT TO BE A MAJOR UPDATE TITLED 'THE TEXT CHAT UPDATE' !!!!!!!!!!! * Would also like to add, the numbers don't lie. 20.4k reviews on Steam, with only 46% of them positive. 30k all time peak players on release day. 15k a week after release day. 5 weeks after release day, concurrent player count drops below 2k. 8 weeks after release day, concurrent player count drops near 800. Steady decline ever since, with the occasional update briefly drawing a few hundred concurrent players back. Peak concurrent players for all of June 2026, 532 players. Averages for the month of June 2026 show around 250 - 350 peak concurrent players. Some hours of the recent few past days show fewer than 120 concurrent players. Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, for example, has higher concurrent players and higher peak concurrent players than KF3. An obscure solo/coop FPS game that released in 2004 on Windows XP has more players than KF3.
Modern slop game. Boring, too many microtransactions, not optimized well. You will be disappointed if you expect gameplay from KF2.

Underrated. Takes a little getting used to due to changes/updates in the gameplay but overall, still killing floor, and still fun.
